Wow that was really cool to get to see it transform from a sketch to a colored drawing 🙂 but Angel's dialogue doesn't make me hate him any less for what he did to Giles. :/

I don't think it was supposed to. He isn't boasting or gloating, those words were leaden with self-loathing.
I find his tone reminiscent of how he spoke during S2 of his own show when he was completely disillusioned with the fight and his part in it.

Wow that was awesome, & I of course agree with [MENTION=7585]Kean[/MENTION] although there is simply not enough there to know his attitude/state of mind at the moment.

I do not get at all why peoe would surmise that Angel would be human. Because there is no magic in the world? Because the curse was lifted? Then he'd just be evil/soulless or plain dead.

Spoilers for After the Fall
In ATF it was shown that Angel will receive Shanshu, however, it will happen when he does something terrible, with major loss of life. You know the way it was always said he would feature prominently in the apocalypse but it was unclear which side he would be on? That's what the prophecy (apparently refers to) We saw a flashforward of him feral and surrounded by human bodies...Twilight fit into that rather well and many were suggesting that Twilight would lead to Shanshu

You know I haven't read ATF yet but I wondered that just in terms of how the Shanshu was described in the show. But was it ever hinted at by the writers of season 8?

The art in this is really great. I just hope that it won't go down in quality as the season progresses. As for reading any particular tone, whether bragging, self loathing, or just don't care one way or the other, out of Angel's dialog, I just can't see it, given such a brief statement, but I'm willing to accept the fact that he does, at least, feel remorse for all of the mistakes that he made during Season 8.
I do feel a little bit robbed, however, if we're just going to hop from near catatonic Angel at the end of Season 8 to pretty much business as usual Angel at the beginning of Season 9. I was really hoping for somebody, probably Faith, to give Angel a big "Get off of your dead ass and onto your brooding feet, and go out there and try to make up for all the bad that you've managed to cause" pep talk. Maybe there will be some flashbacks that fill in the gaps.
Though I'm still hoping for the same thing for the lost 18 months between the end of Season 7 and the beginning of Season 8.

Upon first reading that I felt a major urge to watch Buffy kick Angelus in the balls again. The lying undercurrent says that Angel accepts how easy it is for him to slip back though. Whether you believe that Angel and Angelus are two different people; we know from when Darla came back that his life is a constant struggle against the evil in his own heart. Every day he's fighting not simply to quiet the demon inside; but to use it as a tool for good. That's the reason why Angelus hates the soul so much. Quick breakdown of the line.

Angel is taking responsibility for his actions; even if he was possessed at the time.
"...like a twig."
It's easy to be evil; you can be halfway there and not even realize it. Being good is what's so damn hard.
Course; I still don't like the line but I do see more going on than just a defiant Angel barb.

[MENTION=10628]Litheran[/MENTION], great analysis! And I remembered what this line reminds me of: in the BtVS episode "Angel" he tells Buffy "I fed on a girl your age. Beautiful. Dumb as a post.". Now I'm not sure he really meant that (that she was dumb) & regardless it was an insensitive thing to say, but he was being defensive & trying to figure out where he fit in with Buffy & this whole redemption thing. She had "caught"'him attacking her mother & his head was spun by Darla, so he was feeling a little hopeless. Seems like the same thing here, only with much bigger stakes (pun unintended).
I also think it's hilarious how much we're reading into a single page lol!
Does anybody remember if Joss or Scott Allie tells us how much time has past between season 8 & 9? It's very possible, [MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION], that he has already spent quite a bit of time in a catatonic state, although knowing Angel the brooding is certainly not over! 😀

Almost certainly Angel has spent quite some time locked away, brooding nonstop. I just wanted to see the scene where either he comes to the realization all on his own, or, far more likely, Faith convinces him that he'll never manage to face the world in general and the Scoobies in particular if he doesn't at least TRY to begin making amends for everything that he did as Twilight.
I'm assuming that Angel coming to grips with what he has done will be one of the major story lines in the "Faith and Angel" book. Making statements like "I snapped his neck like a twig" would seem to indicate that he's not feeling anywhere near as bad about Giles' death as he was in Season 8 #40.
I agree. This is not Angel boasting. This is Angel telling that demon who he really is. He is telling the demon he is no hero. It hearkens back to what he told Buffy in S1 "I killed their friends... and their friend's children... For a hundred years I offered ugly death to
everyone I met, and I did it with a song in my heart." He wasn't boasting here either. Simply telling Buffy who he was.
This is an Angel who no longer believes in his good. Or more to the point, "It's not the demon in me that needs killing, it's the man."
He no longer believes in redemption. Least of all his own.

I really hope we get Connor in the story early; Angel needs him now. It wouldn't hurt for Spike to pop in and check up on his grand-sire either. Spike will undoubtedly understand Angel's torment; while not letting him wallow. Of course if they'd never killed off Cordy; none of this would have happened. And another thi....no, no I'm gonna stop myself right there and count to ten. That's what my AtS support group does every time we have to think about the season that shouldn't have been.

No really. It's just Angel. He invested a lot of time into bettering himself. After what happened, after what he did, I can't say it isn't understandable that he has given up on that whole idea of a mission. On the idea that he can actually be better.
I hope A&F continues down this road, I'd love to see Angel explore why/how he keeps finding himself in this position.
