If you take into account Angel's time in the Hell dimension, he has loved Buffy for over a hundred years. That is a "forever" love you if you ask me 🙂. He loved her before he lost his soul, then he said he loved her when he got his soul back and he again says he loves her after he returns from hell.

Doesn't that warm your Bangel heart?

It sure does. We expect nothing less. Buffy and Angel love is the best.

But wasn't he kinda mad throughout some of his time in Hell? I mean, he came back and wanted to attack Buffy. Sure, those feelings resurfaced once he started to get 'tamer' but he was fairly feral for a while there. Would he of been able to think clearly in Hell?

I dislike the whole 100 years in hell deal. That's way too over-dramatic and unrealistic. I would have liked it more if his time in hell was the same amount as the time Buffy was without him, four to five months.

Realistically if someone, even a vampire, was in hell for a 100 years, not only will he not recover in a matter of two episodes that is if he'll ever recover... but he'll also forget the people he knew before those 100 years. I don't think he'd even remember the fact that he killed Jenny.

A hundred years is nothing to Angel, he could potentially live for thousands of years and I believe that he'll still remember and love Buffy until the day he dies 😀
How could he forget her?
Yes, this does warm my Bangel heart 🙂

Yeah, I mean you'd expect slightly more trauma, but even I admit it is sweet in a "I've been loving you from a distance forever" kinda way....

Were there no other girls in the hell dimension he could have hooked up with during his stay? 😉😀

Why must everything be grand and out there? 3 or 4 months in hell will still be traumatic. But at least it won't be as silly as 100 years, and why must it be 100 years? Why can't it be 98 years or 86 years? 😀

I headcanon that it felt like a 100 years in hell for Angel but it was far shorter than that.

Yeah I agree it could be that it felt like 100 years but I can also appreciate the concept that time moves differently in that hell dimension.

But what is awesome about this story line is that this is essentially the second time Angel is brought back from a desperate state of living by Buffy. The first time he was basically in "hell" living in squaller eating rats for decades emaciated and then he saw her and decided to fight. Second time when he returned from hell, he was nursed back to sanity by Buffy. Both times she was his light.

Now if only he could've been her saving grace during her post heaven depression. 🙁

I've made this same point before. Spuffy fans are always like "Spike got his soul for her!" but Angel was tormented for over a hundred years for Buffy because she killed him since she had to, and he still came back loving her. This is why spike has nothing on Angel.

I freaking hate that argument! Spike the DEMON who just attempted rape went and got his soul and I'm supposed to what, swoon? It's ridiculous.

I watch this you tube series called Still Pretty and she just finished reviewing Season 7 "Beneath You" and she was saying how "everyone is thinking that asking for your soul is so much better than being cursed with one."
And Joss says something similar. But again, the reasons for getting his soul were selfish (to be with the object of his obsession - Buffy) and driven by his recent attempted rape, so color me unimpressed.

I mean, I like Spike with Drusilla. He was good as a villain in season 2, but after that, he just became a love sick crybaby with serious issues. He acts like a douchey teenage boy who never grew up and constantly pines over a girl who makes it clear she doesn't want him and then he tries to rape her. What kind of pairing is this???? And for someone like Whedon who always goes on and on about how obsessed with women issues he is to the point he comes off as self loathing of his gender, what the **** is he doing putting his star character with someone like Spike?????

Even physically, you can not say that Spike with his ramen noodle bleached hair is more handsome than Angel.

SMG has always been anti-spuffy and for good reason. He tried to rape her and that's just the tip of the iceburg... he stole her underwear numerous times, spent years trying to kill her, tried to break up her friendships with Willow and Xander at the end of season 4, and I could go on..

For me (and a lot of other people), the pairing you watched the show for in the early seasons was without a doubt, Buffy and Angel... It was devastating when Angel left.

I never bought into the Cangel stuff on Angel the series and it was barely even a pairing and as much as I like Cordelia and her character development, there is no effing way that angel loved her more than buffy... need I mention when he called out Buffy's name when he was supposedly in love with Cordelia? Cordelia went best with Doyle and they both loved each other, but both died tragically.

In the later seasons of Buffy's show... The pairing I watched it for was without a doubt Willow and Tara, and to a lesser degree Xander and Anya. They were by far better couples than Spuffy.

The whole Spuffy thing perplexes me. I mean, everyone can ship what they want and I definitely agree that people shouldn't be bashed for their ships, but I will never understand what Whedon and the writers see in Spuffy in terms of the actual canon. It has nothing on Bangel.

Btw sorry I deleted my original posting. I had way too many spelling errors so I just fixed then all and reposted it.

Oh gosh yeah Cangel was a tough pill to swallow. But surprisingly a popular ship!

It was the way of abuse relationships. That's why Spike getting the soul of his own free will (instead of the demon screwing him over because he wanted a chip removal, it's how I see it) is such a negative for me. In no way will I ever see it as a positive.

This was no different than the classic abusive boyfriend/husband getting out and buying a big present when he took it one step too far. If Spike thought a giant diamond would have gotten him Buffy back, he would have gone and stolen one instead of getting the soul. It's utterly selfish on Spike's part because he does it with 'I want Buffy back' in mind. There is nothing heroic, noble, good or selfless about his action. And that it gets romanticized by so many makes me sick. And it also undermines Buffy and what she wants. He doesn't care what Buffy wants. Buffy didn't want anything from him, he just assumes.

But to get back on topic, I found it amazing that after 100 years of torture in hell Angel still remembered Buffy. Not only that but understood her choice and probably loved her even more for the strength that took. It's one of the ways she shaped his heroism IMO.

Spike getting his soul is nothing compared to what angel did with being tortured for a hundred years in hell and still loving Buffy. Sometimes I honestly think Spike should've been staked in season 2, especially because of how ridiculously bad his character turned out. He literally becomes a love sick crybaby and stalker.
