Angel or Angelus - who do you like more?

I love Angel, I love how he cares about Buffy, I like his broodiness as well but I have to admit that Angelus is a lot more fun to watch. The way he manipulates people and situations is genius.
 
It really depends on my mood. Somedays i like Angelus more, on others it's Angel.

Still, if i had to choose....😕

It would have to be Angel
 
Angel contains everything that is Angelus. Angelus does not contain Angel. Angel is ipso facto the more complex character. I can't see how anyone would find him less interesting than his defined-by-a-lack counterpart.
 
Arguably Angel and Angelus are merely the two sides of the same coin, a fragmented persona. That is to say, Angelus can only manifest as part of the darker urges present in Angel.

With all this said, I prefer watching Angel, because there are facets to his behaviour. Angel is actually more unpredictable and conflicted than Angelus and in that is where the fun lies.

I find it rather irrating when people simply say Angel is just broody and that's all there is to his character. Not true in my opinion.

If this question was asked for BtVs solely, I'd find Angelus the more interesting character. But if you count Angel's series, I'd select Angel as he showed more (actually for the first time) personality. But ultimately I'd say Angel because even though I can love a good villain, I never root for them.
 
Angelus all the way! David played him much better than Angel. Angel was just boring and had no depth, IMO. When he was Angelus was the only interesting part of the entire Bangel relationship. I found it quite boring when he was Angel.

Angelus, no contest. I prefer people with character integrity, at ease with themselves - even if it's the integrity of being a complete psychopathic mastermind of terror. He's also much, much more entertaining than his souled persona.

Aaaah! There we go, all is right with the world again ;) I was beginning to think we had been swapped with pod versions of ourselves :p
I like them both equally really but if pressed I would chose Angel. Mainly because I think Angelus is an awesome and hilarious villain, great to watch.... for a few episodes. But more than that... just wouldn't work, he doesn't have any real depth as a character, whereas (just like Kana pointed out) Angel has facets to his behavior. For example I found his sudden behavior in Angel season 2 around Reunion etc much more exciting than anything Angelus ever did.

Angel. A thousand times Angel. He is complex and layered. All these years later and I feel we have still only scratched the surface with him. Angelus, while entertaining, is a one trick pony. I think his stint in S4 of ANGEL really made that clear. He felt more like a joke than a threat.

Since I dislike S6-7 Spike, perhaps it won't be a surprise when I say that I prefer Angelus. 😉 I found Angel a bit too solemn and moody.

As for Angelus, even though he killed one of my favourite characters on Angel, I really enjoyed watching DB have an absolute ball with the character that time. I really loved Angelus on S2 Buffy...even though he killed poor Jenny. That's one of the reasons why I love S2 so much [because of Angelus, not Jenny's death].
 
The thing that gets me is that people seem to think the Angel/Angelus divide somehow makes Angel seem more like a superficial character, whereas I disagree. As Kean said, Angel is a rich complex character with a multitude of issues (part of why I like him), but having an alter-ego of with the appearance of complete malevolent evil doesn't negate the complexity of his character.

It's almost like saying someone with a barely definable mental illness is less of a person than someone who has a 'healthier' mind. Angel is all kinds of delightfully ****** up, Angelus, is merely one of those issues.

In any respect, I find him more interesting when he's ambiguously, evil/good/indifferent, it makes for much more compelling viewing than him mwah ha haaing at the everyone every five minutes.

Well, I agree that Angel has depth, and I could talk on about he's depthness based on what I see in the character. What I find boring about him though, as opposed to Angelus, is his personality. A person that broods isn't interesting to me.
 
As much as i loved Angel, and he just got better as the seasons went on especially in Ats. Id choose Angelus. He was not only a scene stealer, but he totally made season 2 what it was.
From Innocence onwards, he single handedly made that season Epic on a grand scale. Even though Angelus was only about for half a season, he will go down as one of the greatest (and imo THE) Greatest villain we have seen in the verse.

I'd take a thousand years of Angel sitting in a room, contemplating life, over an hour of Angelus diabolically twirling his villainous mustache. Just trying to imagine what Angel could be thinking about is ten times more engaging than any artful cruelty Angelus could cook up.

I love Angel so much in AtS,he was boring tough in BtS.I liked/loved him since the very first episode in buffy (and fell in love with him since the first scene,just for being so HOT xD 😀 )
BUT Angelus was so bad ass at being such an evil genius asshole.can't choose 😀

Angel, for sure. Aside from the simple fact that he's the hero of the story, he's always been one of my favorite T.V. characters. At the same time however, Angelus is a fantastic villain. Unlike some people, I don't link them as the same person really, logically to me, Angelus is the demon, Angel is the man. I think the presence of Angelus, even when he's dormant, is a great device for Angel as a character. He's this awesome hero of heroes, but underneath he's still a vampire, and the possibility of the demon rising to the surface is always there.

As for Angelus as a character, love him. He's an amazing psychological bad guy.

Angel on AtS > Angelus on AtS

Angelus is sadistic and it's great to watch (specifically in Soulless) but after he escapes his cage he kind of starts to get on my nerves (I'm watching Orpheus right now and I'm just over it, I miss Angel!). Nothing will ever compare to how great he was in season 2.

You know, I actually like him a lot in Angel S4. The whole reasoning for him reverting back to Angelus was a little shaky, but it was very cool seeing Angelus interact with an entirely new cast of characters. I mean, the only person who'd had any experience with him was Cordy, and even that was limited on Buffy. I liked how everyone, even Wes, underestimated Angelus and just assumed that they'd be able to control him, and it all went to hell.

I'm not saying he was better than in Buffy S2 though. That was just incredible.
