Angel Or Riley

Riley would've been a great addition to the scooby team if he'd been used to bring the Slayer into the Twentieth Century by introducing more modern techniques and weaponry to the team. He could've even been portrayed as having a secret crush on one of the other members of the group (Xander would've been my personal choise, but Angel would work just as well). As a love interest for Buffy, however, the boy just plain sucked. As for Angel, he should've been portrayed as having a secret crush on Giles. Buffy would have been much better off recognising Faith's secret crush on her fellow Slayer, leading to really complicated developments when Spike, her one and only true love, became a regular on the show.
 
Riley

For Buffy personally, the Riley relationship was much better than the Angel one, what with him being human and only a few years older, not being hated (or at least actively disliked) by several of her close friends and also able to have a physical relationship with her.

I was getting really tired of Angel and Buffys relationship at the end of season 3, and I thought it was great when it ended. Riley was different, and offered Buffy a different kind of realtionship than the one she had had for the last three seasons, which was great.

As characters finaly, Riley was obviously less developed, only being on the show for about a season (counting from The Initiative in s4) before leaving, while Angel had more than two seasons worth of show. Also, the fact that Riley slowly turned into an idiot in season 5 before finally leaving makes him less appealing.

For Buffy personally, she needed someone she could actually love. Buffy - obviously - never reallyloved Riley. What her friends thought of Angel... well, that was their problem.

How did you get tired of the Buffy/Angel 'ship? I don't get that. Not in a biased, crazy fangirl shipper way, just... what made you dislike it?

I agree with the idiot part - only it wasn't slowly... pretty much... boom.

Well, I never saw any evidence that Buffy wasn't in love with Riley, on that there's only Rileys word, and by that time he was already an idiot. Perhaps she didn't handle the relationship flawlessly, but neither did he so...

The Buffy/Angel relationship got tiresome in season 3 for several reasons. first, the whole "oh, we can't have sex, woe is us, ours is a doomed love" thing was getting tiresome by the end of s3. Second, it tore apart the group, first with everybodys (especially Xanders and Giles) issues with Angel, and then, especially when combined with Faith, with the relative power level of the group being so high as to exclude the ones without superpowers (mostly Oz, partly Xander). Also, he was kind of underdeveloped as a character, I liked him a lot better on Angel.

On the subject of Riley being an idiot, I really liked him in s4, but felt that his character and also what he brought to the team changed very much in s5.
 
Riley, bored the crap out of me. I did not like him much HOWEVER, I would not say he was 'scum'. On the contrary, overall he was a pretty decent fella.
His one indiscretion, compared to what others have done, is not worthy of the 'scum' title.

Considering that her other two boyfriends didn't have souls when they did something stupid and horrible, I'm gonna stick with my assessment
 
I liked Riley , I think he is the best looking of all Buffy's boyfriend. I could quite warm to Angel , even though I liked the Buffy/Angel combo and felt for their situation.

What i could get was why does Angel only experiance true happiness though sex - I mean how superficial is that. I know sex is an act of love - but it is not the only thing is a good solid relationship.!!!

Then you are an idiot.

Buffys emotional attachment to each character that she 'dated' had nothing to do with if they had a soul or not. She was still emotionally attached to them when they caused her great pain. With Angel the moment he lost his soul did she lose her feelings? No, she couldn't separate the two. Spike, he was ALWAYS sans soul.
Riley, i'll give him his due, felt pushed away by Buffy.
He tried to be something he thought she wanted and in a way did, but that road took him to that dark place.

My only objection with this is the fact you call Riley scum. He wasn't that. He is a plain, simple Iowa boy....thus boring
