Angel Or Riley

In S4, even though I hated the Bangel relationship (actually I have disliked just about all of Buffy's ships), I preferred Angel. THis was based solely on Riley being written horribly in S4. He just didn't have any spark to him. In S5 I actually liked Riley though, as he finally became a much more interesting character.

To be fair though, I thought angel in S1-3 was pretty damn boring. The relationship just seemed to be caught in a holding pattern for so long that if DB hadn't left, the show would have suffered for it. I HATED Angel. Once he got his own show Angel became one of my favorite characters in the Buffyverse.

I'm definitely a Bangel fan so I highly prefer Angel. Angel overall is the better character (hence him getting the spin-off) but Riley did have his moments. Personally, I liked the idea of Buffy/Riley before they found out about eachother. Once Riley knew that Buffy was the slayer and had super strength, he always was in competition with Buffy whether it was intentional or not. He truly couldn't stand the fact that Buffy was strong than him.

In season 5, whatever good qualities Riley had were erased by him acting selfish while Buffy's mother was in the hospital and sick. I understand him wanting to be close to her and her to let him in, but there are somethings not everyone can touch and Buffy was really needed by her mother and her sister and Riley couldn't stand the fact that Buffy wasn't dependent on him.

IMO, no mere mortal would have been able to work in a relationship with Buffy as long as they knew she was the slayer, but that secret would only have been able to stay hidden for so long.

I loved the story of the forbidden love between a vampire with a soul and a slayer. It made the first couple seasons all the more interesting and just the dynamic between Buffy and Angel was there and much deeper than the skin-on-skin relationship that Buffy and Riley had.

I don't think I understand your question correctly. Is it Angel or Riley for Buffy? Or who we think is the best character?
However, here is my answer. It is Angel of course because Riley was driven and he was far away from being a favourtie character and even an interesting character. He was really lame, and his relationship with Buffy was un-necessary.

Angel definitly, Riley was just so dull and boring!!!!!!!! Ok I'll be fair he was a good guy when he stuck up for buffy when that parker guy gave her a hard time but riley just had one of those US military stereotypes personalitys (dont know if that made sense but hope u get what i mean) he was too clean cut.

Riley was dull and conformist. Angel was leagues ahead of him on the personality stakes. Not that I would have been particularly enthused to see him and Buffy getting back together. Oh no! That worked well in Season 2 but had become repetitive by Season 3. They work best whenever they're apart, both as characters and as champions. But yes - Riley was a pretty ordinary character. Nothing about him really stood out.

i totally love Riley, i don't know what you guys are saying...but i'm a Bangel fan at heart, but that episode where Xander lectures her before Riley takes off...man tugged at all the right strings.

I never liked Riley. He was just so, boring..

I know! He was in the Initiative (ms) but that didn't really make him cool. (At least in my opinion.)

I have always thought Buffy and Angel were meant for each other and when Riley came into the picture it seemed like he was trying to take Angel's place. But I enjoyed seeing Riley appear when Buffy was working at the Doublemeat Palace in season 6. That was kind of nice. And it was ok to see that Buffy was trying to move on with her relationship life.

Overall I like Angel much, much more than Riley. (Although, Marc Blucas is pretty cute in some pictures outside of Buffy:: red ::.)

Edmund Blackadder
What the chuff is (ms)?
Ships aside, Riley (aka Marc Blucas) is 10 times better looking than David Boreanaz IMHO. Call me crazy, but the All American guy look just rocks.

Riley was awful. Angel was all "Ooh, I could lose my soul at any moment!" and we were all like "HOLY CRAP WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN?!"

With Riley it was more "I like cookies and milk. Yaaay." and we were all yawning.

I never liked Riley, but now that i watch season 4 more and more, I feel kinda sorry for him. Sometimes i actually feel like i could relate to him which is so weird. But yeah, still not a Bangel fan.

I like Angel the best, but I liked a character like Riley stepping in with a break from guys that sleep with you then go bad scenario. Buffy deserved a guy like Riley even if it was just for a season and a 1/2??. It was definitely a break for Buffy and a development of her character. From that (even though I still pick Angel), I think she was starting to see Xander in another light. Which I don't think she ever would have without that experience with Riley.

Well of course their was no one else Buffy could love after Angel! But spending her live with a vampire ,that would be really complicated she did not trust Angel, and trust is very important in a relationship.Riley was just a sweet, bit dull guy but I think Joyce was right telling Angel to leave so Buffy could find a nice boyfriend. And I think Riley loved Buffy very much, poor boy.

Angel for sure. But despite being a Bangel fan, I didn't hate Riley at all. Nor did I mind the Buffy/Riley relationship.

Riley was just blah! To be honest I kinda feel sorry for Marc Blucas because he was set up for a fall. He was NEVER going to be able to fill DB's shoes on or off screen. SMG made it known many times that she believed Angel was the one for Buffy. How can he compete when his leading lady isn't even into it never mind their characters!! He was a nice but he was just rebound guy part 2. It's Angel. It will always be Angel for Buffy.

I liked Riley as Riley, though I wasn't a big Riley/Buffy fan ya get me? I think it was great though that he was Buffy's chance at being with a normal guy who wasn't a jerk (such as stinky parker man). He was Buffy's chance/opportunity at a nice, normal relationship. And he did adore her, but he was the type who needed to be the big strong protector type and he couldn't be that with Buffy, so I think eventually, they just weren't right for one another.
I like Bangel...to an extent. I'm a great romantic and I just love the entire Bangel story from beginning to end. It's just wonderful. It's an epic love, you know like in it's purest form and i just love it. But.....it isn't practical for them to be together unfortuntely.
So conclusion? I think I came to a surprising tie! haha

Nabila
yes,yes, parker stinks
Riley ... eh, his character was good and all, but his character together with buffy, ;big no; I liked Angel alot more with her then Riley ^_^.
Plus Spike was better with her too lol. All three guys were great characters, i just never liked Riley/Buffy love fest.
But I did like that he made her happy. That's always nice to see a cute and happy Buffy Summers ^_^
