Angel Re-ensouled and His Curse

I've always had a question about Angel's whole re-ensoulment in ATS season 4. Okay, so he was cursed by the gypses so that he would suffer, and the curse was only to be broken by a perfect moment of happiness. He got that moment with buffy, went bad, bla, bla, bla, and it broke the spell. So when Willow re-ensouled him, she used the same curse that the gypses had used on him, so the curse on him remained the same--no perfect moment of happiness. But when he loses his soul on ATS season 4, is it clear that she does use the same curse? Because if she didn't, he should just have a soul forever like Spike, and not with the whole perfect-moment dealio. Or does Spike also have that curse?? Any thoughts??

I think Willow could make the spell give Angel his soul so he won't lose it ever again. Not sure why she doesn't do it.

I think it's easier to cast a very limiting curse like that than to grant an unconditional soul. I mean, if you think about it, that's a huge thing to do, so I think assuming Willow could just do it, or just remove the condition, doesn't really make sense. Her only being able to piggyback on ancient Romany magic seems much more feasible.

Spike doesn't have the curse, we know that. There were no stipulations when his soul was returned.

But in saying that, I think Linds is right about Willow. Returning someone's soul is a HUGE thing, and while it might have been the first spell Willow ever performed, she was basically reenacting a spell that was put in place a hundred years before. She was just renewing it almost.

To remove the curse aspect of Angel's soul would be a pretty big deal, I think. Willow would have to create a whole new spell, new specifications, the whole nine yards.

I'm not saying she won't be capable of it at some point, but right now I just don't think she has the power or the experience.

I've compared the transcript in the past, and it seems to be the same words she's using in the spell (and a orb of thesulah if I don't remember wrong) so I assume it's the same spell. With a clause and everything.

Also, I think the show implies, if not outright states it, that re-enosuling spells are rare. The one used on Angel had been lost for centuries, and if there were re-ensouling spells available, I think it would have been talked about on the show. People would want their newly turned vampire members to get souls, so they get to keep their throats and get back their loved ones.

I also doubt they're easy to make up, because then people would re-ensoul vampires all the time, which as I said would hopefully have been mentioned on this shows. Specially when Angel lost his those two times, since it would have been relevant. I'm guessing those sorts of spells are hard to create and perform. I don't see why Willow would be specially apt at creating or modifying soul-spells.

Sidenote: the cave in Africa seemed like something only a few would know about as well, which is probably why it's never mentioned either. Spike probably heard about it on accident.

I have always theorized that neither the gypsies nor any other human, Willow included, could command a powerful enough magic to permanently install a soul in a soulless being (one of the reasons that Spike went to the cave demon to regain his own soul. The C D could command a far more powerful degree of magical power) Another possibility is that since Willow was only re-invoking an existing spell, she couldn't tamper with it for fear of destroying both soul and spell entirely, leaving them with permanent Angelus.

I think that's something that anyone in the underworld could hear whispers of, but few would really want. Plus, even if demons did go there, the trials were hard. Spike was the exception that made it through. But yes, I would say few knew that it was real, or where it was, but I think it'd be reasonably easy for Spike to find out about what with his contacts.

Oh, and as for why Angel didn't go - he already had his soul. And Angelus would never have wanted to attempt anything like that. I think the desire for a soul in the soulless was a very rare thing indeed.
