Angel Directly to DVD?

There quite a few sources stating that Fox is evaluating the possibility of bringing Angel season 6 directly to DVD.

First of all, we have to state that the DVD numbers for Angel are great. Angel DVD sales lead the Fox charts. That`s why Fox is trying not to lose this important profit factor.

J.August Richards said in an recent interview that Fox has started negotiations of a possible future of Angel on DVD.

Joss Whedon was asked about the option and stated it as "very interesting".

If Angel season 6 or a movie will come directly to DVD the chances are not low that Angel will return sooner or later to TV since networks will need some replacement for shows that won`t do very well in the fall season and will be cancelled after a few episodes. So the possibility of picking up a series with almost finished episodes on DVD is a realistic one.

The example of Family Guy has shown that a series doing well on DVD can return again to TV format.

The only big question is if David Boreanaz is ready to play Angel for DVD movies or episodes of season 6.

If no there are also some rumours that the cast is willing to continue even without David by installing James as the leading man. But this information is only a rumour, so we must have patienece until further information occurs.

But the given info about the DVD plannings is absoultely more than just a rumour. It`s a possible alternative which can work out.

There are actually some rumours of NBC picking up Angel for season 6. We can assure you that the given information is fake,

Sounds interesting, I've been seeing quite some articles from avid SciFi fans about how it could be possible... it all sounds very interesting... I just hope they would release the DVD's in both regions at the same time.
 
What if you had to choose between nothing or 'Spike' ?

I'd rather have Angel then Spike, but rather Spike then nothing.
 
I'd still buy it but it wouldn't be the same with out David I love him i do and it would be heartbreaking to see it but i mean I do love the other characters too and i would love to see the Illyria fold out 🙂 but i'd still love if David were in it then it would be perfect
 
Interesting idea. Although generally for direct to DVD project the budgets are considerably less than network shows... not sure if that will effect the quality of the show
 
I doubt it will. Joss could make a 10 dollar budget into a masterpiece in my eyes. Cool idea. I would buy it.
 
Though untill now I have never bought the DVDs of neither Buffy nor Angel, I think I would buy it if't were a DVD-only release.

My thoughts exactly. I would DEFINITLY buy it if it had any of the Angel or Buffy cast. Just so long as it continued the 'verse. Although if Spike was the main character, wouldn't it be more of a spinoff? Ah maybe not if they continue the exact storyline.
 
That would be good, but David sounds like he doesn't really want to do it.

Spike in the lead role would be fun, but then you couldn't exactly call it Angel. Taggart may have survived after losing the character the series is named after, but I think this is slightly different!
 
Its certainly not gonna interest me if its Spike (Angel's the best...I dont want Spike!)
Lets try rooting Illyria for leading-man/lady/demon-goddess! lol
 
That would be very cool if it did get made as a DVD series thing but i dun really think that it would be the same if it didnt have David as the leading amn. Although, saying that, it would be really funny to see Spike get the lead lol :d
