Why Is Cordelia Off Angel?

Joss Whedon, co-creator of The WB's Angel, confirmed to TV Guide Online that Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) won't be coming back to the vampire series and talked about the reason. "Mainly because we felt like we had taken that story"”just like Buffy [the Vampire Slayer] for seven years"”about as far as it could go," Whedon told the site. "The Angel/Cordelia [love story] had gone pretty much as far as we wanted to take it. Their romance was definitely not a popular move on our part, and I think with most fans."

Whedon added, "It just seemed like it was time, because we were revamping the show, and then paring it down. ... It just seemed like a good time for certain people to move on. Not completely, obviously. I'm hoping that we'll get Charisma to do some episodes as Cordelia sometime during the year. She's a new mother, so, like [Buffy star] Sarah [Michelle Gellar], I'm waiting to hear what her schedule is like."

Whedon said that the show parted with Carpenter on good terms, but added, "Yeah, but that's also stuff between us and not stuff that I would talk about in an interview." Angel returns to its 9 p.m. ET/PT Wednesday timeslot in the fall.

hah...sounds like something happened...man...they better get a hottie to replace her....fred cannot carry the show alone...
 
dammit...i liked cordelia on angel...willow should get her ass on the cast next fall...
 
willow can't be the alpha female...hell no...they need some new blood...i would say gwen...but she isn't it....she's hot...but she can't carry a show like cordelia in her prime...

but if fred gains some weight....they might be a chance..
 
well there will probobly be a female replacement...i doubt they'll have the show with only 1 female...
 
get some hot asian chick...like the one in she....i remember she was hott...i can't recall though
 
thats what i would think...but why did joss have to say that last thing in the interview....it leaves doubt...why couldn't he have just said...we good...everybody is happy...i wouldn't be surprised if cordy got axed cause she couldn't get the weight off...that would be gay yo...
 
I don't think they should rush to replace her...maybe they should bring a new female character in a few episodes into the season. And I want her to be someone COMPLETELY different from Cordy.
 
It will seen strange without Cordy around but peeps hav to move on or take breaks! I think Fred could handle bein the main female 🙂 but I defiently think they should hav another female as part of the group! Gwen or Lilah!!! 🙂
 
Yeah, Fred could be alpha female, afterall she was in charge when Angel was stuck in a box underwater. But I think that there definitely needs to be another female lead too. 1 just can't cut it. I know they are seriously thinking about putting Harmony on as a main character, but I just don't know how I feel about that.
 
harmony??...that would be hella gay...she's pretty...but she ain't mean....craxy hott..

they need some new blood...discover someone....someone that hasn't been seen before...lilah and gwen can't be those people... both of them are pretty...but they don't got the charisma that charisma had...??
 
Actually, I happen to think that Alexa Davalos and Amy Acker would be great to watch as the only females on the show...come on...Alexa's got a very commanding presence!
 
you ask any guy if alexa got it....most of the time...they'lll say no....
 
You doubt they'd carry i only with only one female?.... well there was kinda a stage where Xander was the only male....I mean, spike wsn't quite integrated into the scoobies, and Giles was kinda to old too count.......

I don't want cordy to go.... I think shes a great character... I'd be like killing Xander or Willow......

I think that Willow could possibley carry it off, but I'm not so sure... I cant see why fred cant be the main felame, whats wrong with that. and as for the: "but if fred gains some weight....they might be a chance.." comment... what have I missed?
