Which in your opinion was the better final season?

I vote for Angel Season 5 because everything from the idea of Angel and the gang taking over Wolfram and Hart to the series finale was fantastic.

I would say Buffy season 7. I really don't like Angel season 5. The idea was good but I don't think it turned out well. It was incredibly boring for me. whereas I enjoyed season 7 a lot, it has its flaws but I liked it.

Hmm, I liked them both - but I'm going with Angel Season 5. Great way to close the show, great idea with the Angel team, just...great.

What I liked about Angel season 5:
  • new - morally grey - environment
  • Spike
  • Illyria
  • did I mention Spike yet?
What I didn't like:
  • rushed finale (probably due to being canceled at short notice)
  • Lindsey's return (surprise! he' still a douche)
  • Lilah 2.0 (though not an actual improvement)
  • Cordelia's absence

What I liked about Buffy season 7:
  • very good stand-alones (episodes 1 to 7)
  • souled Spike/Spuffy
  • Felicia Day (lol)
  • tongue piercings
  • female empowerment

What I didn't like:
  • dei ex machina, retcons, etc.
  • Kennedy
  • Anya's death
  • 30+ girls having collective PMS

I prefer Buffy season 7, but then again I've always like Buffy much more than Angel.

Buffy season 7. It stayed truer to itself than Angel season 5 did and provided closure. BS7, though I'd tweak a few things, wasn't lacking in characters or a through-line. AS5 lost it's core - Cordy - who was replaced by a network request candidate and didn't have (a strong enough) through-line. I appreciate it more now but I still find it to be the weakest of all the Buffyverse seasons.

Although I have problems with S5, specifically the latter end of it, S7 is, in my opinion, a complete and utter fail. It is everything a finale season shouldn't be - Angel's finale may have been rushed, but at least the final season gave decent screentime to the main characters that deserve it, rather than focusing pretty much entirely on a former tertiary character, at the expense of those that had been there from the start. The Circle of the Black Thorn may have been a bit silly, but at least they weren't total morons, and the plot made some sembalance of sense.

Firstly i'll say i enjoyed both seasons. Both i think are underrated.

The addition of Spike to Angel really added to the show and in comparison to season 4 with the whole Jasmine arc i thought the storyline was a lot better.

Fred's death was emotional and i liked how Angel and Spike linked up. The final episode was gripping and although the end was frustrating it made you feel good inside.

In regard to Buffy season 7 i liked the story arc and the drama was there for all to see. Buffy being destroyed by Caleb, her relationship with Spike, Faith's return were all interesting and it was entertaining for me.

However i can see why some people didn't like the season. Willow, Xander and Giles had bit parts and on reflection more should have been done for those characters during the season.

A Buffy season always has something over an Angel season for me, that's probably SMG 😀 so i'll go with Buffy season 7.

I liked Buffy more as a series than I did Angel, but as far as series finales go I enjoyed Angels more. I enjoyed both and didn't want either show to end but I liked the final scene in Angel when the meet up in the ally and then they prepare to fight again...cheesy I suppose but I was totally cheering them on.

I'm going with Buffy Season 7 by far. It's my third favorite season of Buffy and it had an interesting arc with The First, the Potential Slayers, Anyanka, and Faithy of course!

Angel Season 5 disappointed me because it felt dull and kind of boring without Cordy. It was also annoying how Spike replaced Queen C AGAIN! Also, I even like Season 4 better, and I'm a big Cordy fan.

Angel S5 gets my vote, Buffy S7 was missing something. Still amazing though.

Personal preference, Buffy Season 7. I love the characterizations of Buffy, Spike, and Dawn. And Spuffy. Love, love, love all around for that season. Definitely not the "best" season, though. LOTS of plot holes and deux ex machina (machinas? Suddenly finding myself needing to know the plural of this, lol).

But in terms of quality, I'd agree that AtS Season 5 is much better. Especially the back half. The final season is a little rushed, but the cancellation was pretty unexpected, so I get that. Awesome season finale! Although I can probably only say that cause I consider the comics canon (as much as I'd like not to sometimes) and most of Team Angel lives on to fight another day. 🙂

ETA: for those who don't like Season 7 cause it feels rushed, I agree somewhat. But I suggest looking at S6 and S7 as complementary seasons. Might change your perspective a bit. 🙂

I love both seasons, but gotta go with Buffy season 7. For one thing, we had some amazing Spuffy moments, lol 😀

I've always loved season 7 of Buffy for some reason, and Angel s5 is on the very bottom of my list.

I have been watching Ats a lot lately including season 5, and I have to admit that it's not as bad as I remember, first time I saw it I hated it. That was before the comic so there so many things that upset me but now I can kind disregard it, (is that the right word?).
I like season 5 better than I did before, but it's still the worst one I think. It's feels too different from the other seasons of Angel, I didn't like the story about them working at Wolfram and Hart, Eve was even more annoying than Connor IMO, the story doesn't really start until the last two episodes up until that point there was just a lot av stand alone episodes with them saying "we can't trust Wolfram and Hart, it's evil", no shit.

I agree, especially about Eve. lol.

Dear Username - I disagree.

I felt that Season 5 of Angel was awesome. It picked up its stride with a new storyline, new locale, and really delved into the personalities of Wesley, Angel, and Gunn in a way that developed them so beautifully. I loved Season 5 and, honestly, wish it could have been stretched out into 2 full seasons of them at W&H before the finale happened.

I saw development of Gunn but a lot of the same from Wes and Angel

Well everybody disagrees with me 😀 I actually did not care for most of the character developments in this season at all. Gunn didn't grow or develop IMO they changed him completely, Angel was obnoxious with his cheesy one liners and Spike was just immature and annoying.
But like I said, I do enjoy the 5th season a lot more now than what I used to so that's something.

Eh, to each their own, I suppose. I loved Angel from beginning to end - this was no exception for me.

I just think Season 5 is something we either really enjoy or just really don't. It definitely took a different turn from the previous seasons, because it's in an entirely new enviroment. We lose Cordelia and Connor. Gunn goes from muscle-man to lawyer-boy. It's definitely a huge change.

But, like MRNewman said, I wish we could've seen it develop longer. There were so many different places the show could go from there.

Besides, I love Spike and Angel to death, and their banter is hilarious. The stuff with Illyria/Fred/Wesley, Lindsey/Spike, all the little individual character episodes we get with Lorne, Harmony, Wesley, Cordelia... they're all amazing!

I mean, honestly, my only two main complaints of this season were the fact that the end of the season is a bit rushed and Gunn's character took a turn, IMO, for the worst. Everything else, I absolutely adored and there were very little episodes I found to be even a little boring. Like, two or three - tops.

I can't give you rep because I just did, but I totally agree. 🙂

I'd probably say I like season 7 more because it does have some pretty good eps. The first 7 or 8 were really good imo, and although there are plot holes and some deux ex machinas, there aren't any episodes that I hated. Each had at least one good line or moment. I really liked Storyteller and Selfless.

I still love Angel season 5. It was the first season of Angel I ever watched. Mainly because of Spike. But...I don't know...I guess I've always liked Buffy more than Angel (probably because I watched it first). And I'm not that much of a Fred fan. Or Gunn fan (at least, not in this season).
