Actually, small point, but it is canon, it's just not canon that it is Season 6.

Thats not confusing! so do we take it as more season 5 or just some weird limbo-y canon floating all on its own?

Meh, it's just a bunch of stories, but by current plans not as many as Buffy.

Someone (I can't remember who) explained it good, I think. (S)He said Angel: After the Fall is kind of like what they were talking about doing at one time with the WB where they were going to have a series of Mini-Movies following the characters after the events of the Season 5 finale.

I would also add, it's kind of like if Joss hired people from outside Mutant Enemy to make those mini-movies.

And as far as the "We" thing goes, I disagree. As I look at the poll, it does not appear the larger portion of the board wants to change the name of Angel: After the fall, to Angel Season 6, contrary to canon.

Basically my point is if Whedon is saying it's not Season 6, then it's not. If a board contradicts Joss and says it is Season 6, what does that say about the board?

I read the thread that says it's more like a movie than a season because it's one big story, but then season 4 was one big story too 🙂

I don't think Joss actually said AtF is or is not season 6. He just said it's similar to the season 6 they were going to do for tv, right?

It's just... a comic that follows the continuing adventures of Angel and crew but is not called season 6.

Hey I'm with you, if it doesn't have the whedon stamp of approval I'm not buying it as season 6. I can see where people are confused though cuz a lot of the comic suppliers are pitching it as season 6

I'm going to borrow the quotes from that thread, because they explains it better. Here it is...

It was uncertain if the series would be strict canon in the same vein as Buffy. “It will definitely use Season 6’s proposed stories as inspiration, but it's not exactly Season 6.” According to Whedon, the lack of budget constraints allows Angel’s world to expand in ways that were never possible with the television series.

Wizard Entertainment

Westfield: To borrow what Dark Horse is doing with Buffy, are you looking at this as Angel Season 6?

Lynch: It's not so much a season. It's one giant story as opposed to a bunch of smaller stories that build up to a bigger arc as the series goes on. This is one big story arc that goes for over a year. It feels more like the Angel movie, but it's actually so long it's probably the Angel trilogy of movies. A lot happens. It's like our Lord of the Rings, except we'll only have one ending.

Save ANGEL Forum -> Brian Lynch on

It's Lynch who makes the comment about one giant story, and what exactly he means by that, I don't know. What Joss says is Angel:After the Fall uses some of the proposed story details of what would have been Season 6 for inspiration, but it's not exactly Season 6.

Personally, I don't really mind whether a seperate AAtF-section would be called "After the Fall" or "Season 6" as long as it gets its own section. And the respected mods of this board will only do so if we discuss it enough, so if we just get on with discussing this comic, I'm sure it will get its own section sooner or later.

What Joss says is Angel:After the Fall uses some of the proposed story details of what would have been Season 6 for inspiration, but it's not exactly Season 6.
By that I think he means some things will necessarily change in the transition from tv to comic. Like dragon-riding wouldn't have happened on a tv special effects budget. It's not the season 6 they were going to do, but a new one.

Actually I saw another quote from Joss, and not remembering where it was, I'll paraphrase it. What he said was Angel: After the Fall is not Season 6 in the way Dark Horse's Buffy series is Season 8. He seemed to feel that Buffy Season 8 was specifically organized as a Season where Angel: After the Fall was not.

i voted to call it season six because its happening after the events of season five - with only a small time lag in between but i'm equally happy for it to be called "After the Fall" and put it in the Angel section.

You see, I just don't get that. I don't get why you want to call it Season 6 as if it's official when Joss says it's not.

I'm curious about something else from you Joss isn't canon people. Where do you stand on this idea that, because Lynch crosses over his fish from his non-canon Spike books, it infers canon on what we previously thought of as non-canon. So should discussion of those comics be placed somewhere in the Season forums?

Not that they would be, I'm just curious how the argument goes.

i personally don't think that the prior Spike or Angel comics are cannon and i don't for a minute think that the inclusion of george the fish in After the Fall confers canon status - I think this is just a massive 'wink' to readers of the previous comics and Lynch's work. They should continue to be discussed in the comic section. Like i said in my prior post, i'm happy for the discussion to be called 'After the Fall" rather than 'season six' - but the discussion should be in the Angel section because it is the continuation of the story, as Season eight is the continuation of Buffy, Joss was very much involved in the plotting, crafting of the story. If he has placed his faith in Brian Lynch then i, personally, am happy to accept the story and being a lazy human, i'll probably refer to it as season six occasionally.

Do you mean an Angel: After the Fall sub-forum in the Comics forum much as Season 8 is there, but there is also a link on the front page in the Buffy "Seasons" section?

I don't see why it is a problem to just discuss it in the comics forum, the same way that other Buffy and Angel comics are discussed there...

Because if it stays in the comics forum, the comics forum will soon be overrun with After The Fall topics

I'll believe that when I see it. And were that to happen, that would be the appropriate time to give it a forum.

🙂
Was Buffy Season 8 granted its own section because it outgrew the general comic section, or was that just a admin choice thing? I wasn't around.

I dunno, it seems like the mods here don't take Angel: AtF as seriously as Buffy S8, but you look at the poll and it's currently a combined 12 people for a new section and 2 people against the idea.

I think Angel: AtF will almost certainly be talked about more than any individual season of the show, and those all have their own sections. This is what the Angelverse is now, and it's massively important. If it weren't for this comic, we'd just be reminiscing.

Personally speaking I'm not that interested in the older non-canon comics, so if After the Fall stays here I'll be using this section almost exclusively to talk about After the Fall.

Same with me, except some of those older comics ARE canon (the Origin, Tales of the Vampires, Tales of the Slayers, and Fray) so I am interested in them. Not that there are a lot of things left to discuss about them.

Doesn't that mean there are only 14 people interested in the comic right now? I'm all for a new section, but with numbers like that, it makes sense from an admin's perspective not to make a seperate section.

Just for comparison there are 151 threads in the S8-section with a combined total of 2,335 posts.
The comics section only has 79 threads with a total of 718 posts.
Of which 15 threads are about AAtF. The total number of posts on the subject is 291.

Well, 14 people have viewed this two-day-old thread and voted, of which a clear majority would prefer a separate section for the Angel comic.

From the looks of things there are rarely more 10 active members on all of Buffy Boards at any given time and it's usually the same people. So pretty much most of the people who still visit regularly have voted.

Buffy has been running for several months and is on issue 8; Angel has been going for a bunch of days and it's the debut issue.
