This might have been asked someplace before, but is there any indication, hint, rumor, or confirmed information about just when the "Angel Season 6" series of comics is scheduled to begin?

Has it already been confirmed that they're going to do an Angel Season 6? I know Joss and Brian were in talks, but I didn't know a deal was made already. And does anybody know if it's going to be canonical and how that stuff is going to work with it being an alternate plane or something like that? I read something about Joss saying that they're both canonical but they take place in different realities or something vague like that?!? I know Buffy and Angel are licensed by different companies, but when they were TV shows on different networks that never seemed to be an issue.
I guess I haven't seen any formal announcements for the series on the IDW site. But Ryall (the IDW publisher guy), Lynch and Joss sure seem to be talking like it's a done deal. Joss says it's gonna be canonical. 12 issues.

I got the quote from Wikipedia (upcoming Angel comics), which cites the source as: DiLullo, Tara, "Pieces of Eight", from The Official Buffy & Angel Magazine #93 (UK, April/May 2007), page 23-24.

I agree. The quote doesn't specifically state Angel 6 begins in an alternate reality.
Still...it's an interesting concept. The manipulation of realities has been done before in the Angelverse. I wrote a fanfic one time where that's how Angel and his crew got out of the alley, so I'm pulling for that one. It would be nice to be right about a possibility for a change. :: vampire

I hope it's a different plane like a Pylea different plane... but I'm afraid that somehow Buffy Season 8 and Angel Season 6 are gonna form two separate and mutually exclusive "canonical" continuations.

So, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, this "separate plane" thing rules out crossovers between the two series, but not guest appearances by Buffy characters in the "Angel" series or Angel characters on the "Buffy" series, and they're BOTH canon?
By that logic, the Season 8 Buffy is living in a castle in Scotland, but the one in the Angel Season 6 series might still be shacking up in Rome with the Immortal. Joss, you are a truly EVIL man!!

I don't know. When Joss says Angel season 6 is on a separate plane than Buffy season 8 couldn't he simply mean it's going to have it's own reality much like ATS did to BTVS? Technically they were in the same verse, but they had their own distinct parts of it.

Knowing how Joss is a total fanboy himself when it comes to canon issues and keeping things in continuity I really can't see him creating a "canon" Angel comic series that is a seperate "canon" to the Buffy one. He would know how that would piss off a lot of fans who want the two series to both remain part of the same established Buffyverse.
With that in mind I assume the quote to mean either that the two series won't directly cross over (which makes sense considering the relationship of the two sets of characters at the end of Angel) or that Angel's team will in fact be somehow taken to an alternate demon dimension, which would likely be the only realistic way they could have escaped certain death in the alley that night).
Of course, there is also my old theory that the demon horde were not there to fight Angel that night but actually to bow down before him as their new leader after he was responsible for destroying the Black Thorn. We never actually saw any real fight begin so maybe they really came to crown him their new leader and he, Spike Illyria and Gunn are taken to the Senior Partner's dimension to rule it. Just a thought. 😉
