Angel Season 7

Has anybody heard whether or not there's going to be an "Angel: AFTER After The Fall" or not? It was my understanding that the current "season" was going to be limited to between 12 and 18 issues, and it just doesn't seem to me that it would simply end after that time, unless maybe there are plans to bring Angel and/or Spike over to the Buffy comic.

I don't know but there is supposed to be some big announcement soon on something.

I noticed one thing that was interesting.
Bryan Lynch (A:Atf) was posting over at Dark Horse comics.

Slightly above that post is the confirmation that after Spike: ATF there are no further After the Fall titles at IDW.

Brian Lynch has said that they are all going to have a big rest after Angel is finished🙂 I'd be surprised if its the end though - it's been very successful for IDW but i suppose it depends of whether Joss goves them a new story.

I have the feeling that they're going to wrap up this story the best they can and then bring Spike and Angel over to Buffy. I could be totally wrong, but I've kinda been expecting this from the very beginning.

I think we might see an appearance or two from either Angel or Spike, but I don't see either character going to Buffy for anything more than one arc.

i agree 101%, Angel and spike are too big of names to join buffys cast, they are much better off on their own. it would be nice to have a new angel comic and a spike comic.

plus i wouldent want spike or angel to go over to buffys, mainly because they were pushed around alot over there

I haven't been reading the A:ATF threads (because I'm waiting for the TPB, which supposedly comes out tomorrow), so how is it working? I know there's the A:ATF, but now I'm seeing stuff about S:ATF. Is that mixed in with the Angel one or is it separate?

^ Spike: After the Fall is a miniseries that ties in with everything that's happened in Angel: After the fall, the difference being that the focus will be on Spike.

Also, S:AtF is sort of a prequel to A:AtF. It deals with the three months between the First Night stories from A:AtF and the A:AtF main storyline.

Given that Angel is IDW's absolute top title, they will want to further pursue the story. So, they will likely continue producing comics. The main question obviously is, will these be canon? That's all up to Joss of course. Angel and Spike could potentially turn up in Buffy, as could Wesley, but all the characters that were introduced in Angel and never crossed-over into Buffy during the TV series, are tied to the Angel-licence, which IDW owns. Dark Horse only owns the Buffy-licence.

One of the major selling points of ATF is the fact it's canon. As good as it is I'm pretty certain the sales figures would be a lot lower if it hadn't been given the official status by Joss.

Add that to the fact that the older Spike mini-series have been given a retro-canon status and I'd say it was very likely anything further from IDW will continue to be the official continuation of the story.

Didn't Brian say something along the lines that although there was nothing officially planned he could certainly imagine doing a further Angel maxi-series or two? Hopefully it will happen.

It probably wouldn't really be fair to any of the characters to permanently move back into the same comic, but an occasional arc where Angel gets in some sort of trouble and Buffy and her crew has to come to his rescue, or Buffy is chasing some super bad varmint and Spike, coincidentally, is after its partner/mate/mother or whatever, would be good. On the other hand, it might be refreshing to have the fang boys rescue Buffy for a change.

The Spike mini-series have not retroactively been canonised. Joss has (by my knowledge) never officially approved them as such. The fact that some characters like Beta George and Beck have made it from those comics into the canon comics make them canon, but only the part of them that appeared in the canon comics. In the case of Beck, she appeared in A:AtF 10 but was never called by her name, so for all we know, the canon version of this character might go by another name.

True enough. To be more accurate I should have said they have "virtually" been given the retro-canon status. Wasn't meaning to say that there was anything official in that so far. Something tells me that they will be though, sooner or later. They were the reason that Joss wanted Brian to write ATF after all.

I haven't read the other Spike stories yet, but it seems to me if Lynch's other characters are making appearances in AtF it's just an indirect way of re-canonizing Lynch's other stories and characters. Joss doesn't have to necessarily stand up and make a proclamation on everything--there are more intelligent ways of communicating his "rulings" through the actual canon story itself which, to me, sounds like exactly what he has just done.

I agree 100% for me joss has to put his stamp of approval on a comic in order to make it canon dispite any relationship it might have to an actually canon comic.
