Angel: Season Six?

The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe season 6 of Angek wouldn't actually be that great.

I mean they killed off Fred, Wes and Cordy. Ok so they could bring at least one character back somehow, but there's only so many times you can bring characters back. Angel, Spike, Darla & Buffy is enough already.

If Lorne came back, he wouldn't be his old self. Lorne effectively died when Fred did.

Trying to make a season with the surving characters wouldn't work. They could bring new characters into the mix, but that might end in disaster (my personal opinion on the BTVS Season 7 potentials).

Don't get me wrong, I want a future for Angel. And a fantastic season 6 is possible. I just think it'd be tough, and I'd personally rather have it end with season 5 than 2 more weak seasons (as with Buffy). So maybe they'd be better to come at it from another angle, such as a whole new show or even a movie.

But there would have been minor changes anyway to the end.
IF season 6 was gonna happen, then Wes wasn't going to die, Fred and Illyria would have been separated, Who knows what would have happened with Lorne, Gunn, i believe, was gonna die, Nina was gonna be full time, Oz was gonna come, and LA was gonna be post apocalyptic......that sound ok to me

I think it would have been an interesting, radically different show...more sci-fi feeling. Maybe they'd even be on-the-run nomads. It might have felt more like Firefly.

My understanding was that Wesley wouldn't have died and that the show would've been post-apocolyptic, and that Team Angel would've been put on Trial by the Senior Partners.

No Way! Seriously! A trial? Do you have a link? I need a link.

I had this gigantic er...discussion...with what felt like the whole board one time telling me I didn't understand the series, and had no knowledge of it's canon, because I suggested a trial would be a reasonable subject for a fan-fic based on what had gone before it. In fact this is how it started...

There's a fact most fans seem to walk past. A law exists that even the Senior Partners are answerable to. Angel can take people into protective custody from the Senior Partners under that law. Contracts have to be signed in blood to be legal under that law, and so on.

By my estimation, I won that debate, and the instigator who had been following me around the boards for a week looking for a fight wound up being so badly disgraced he left, but it still bugged me...So much so I wrote an actual fan-fic where they go from the alley to a trial. I wrote it just to prove it could be done. It's here -

I could never complete it though, because it got so complex it could only have been completed as a novel.

But yeah, just for my own satisfaction, I would love to know if there's any evidence the writers of the series planned a Season Six which included Angel on trial.

That's so funny.

Tell the truth, that made you proud? 😀

I'm not sure if I agree with your argument. Evil doesn't have to mean sloppy! Russia or China don't enforce American laws. America does.

Also, I've read several fan fics that ended with a trial.

I couldn't find any at the time, but I'd be surprised if there weren't fanfics with Angel going to trial in a season six scenario. It seems like such a natural progression. I never will understand why those other guys were so vehement it couldn't happen.

You know, now that I think about it, the trial part mighta been a fanfic I read. But the part about Wes not dying and the post-apocalypse setting is legit.

Can you be sure about Wes not originally dying in NFA?

The scene with Illyria turning into Fred (then killing Vale) seems to big to have been added after the cancellation, and I can't think of a reason for it other than Wesley dying. It also links in very well with The Girl In Question, which I also can't see being a last minute addition after they found out they'd been axed.

The only thing I can think of is that Wesley wasn't actually dead, and they didn't change the series last minute but still intended haveing him for season 6. Although it could be a mistake of the author (lighting director of Angel), I couldn't help noticing this in the book '5 Seasons of Angel':

"Three main characters have been killed off during the Angel saga (Doyle, Cordelia, Fred)" (page 25)

Anyone who's read that book will know that Dan Kerns knows his stuff, and that seems like too much of an obvioud error to make. So maybe Weslery isn't dead? We only took Illyria's word for it and she isn't exactly an expert on humans.

I had a basic idea for a "surviving the alley" story, but it would only have worked if Wesley was alive.

But I wasn't interested in rewriting what has happened or ignoring what we know.

Does anyone else think Wesley could be alive?

I can't remember where I read it, but I'm pretty sure I read something like what Watcher Wes is describing. It wasn't really Angel Season 6 from the alley on though .

I think they were talking about what would have happened if Angel hadn't been cancelled. The impression I got was the decision to kill off Wes was something that happened once they heard the series had been cancelled. Again though, I can't remember who actually said that, or if it's exactly as I just described, or how credible it is.

Yeah, I don't recall where, but Wes was definitely going to survive if there was to be another season. If you really want to know where I heard that, I guess you could go through the www.buffy.nu archives, but that would be very time-consuming.

well even with half the cast done..they could easily introduce a few characters..it would be great to have seen a few fresh faces..but why wasn't it picked up..especially when the highest rated season EVER? Oh..I know because we need more shows..about sex..and who sleeps with who..how idiotic.

Was it the highest-rated season ever? I know it posted gains when no other WB shows did, but I think season one had higher ratings. And you have to remember, most contracts in the tv industry last for five years. They would've had to re-negotiate new contracts for Whedon, Boreanaz, Denisof, maybe Richards, and whatever cast and crew had been there for five years.

I was listening to commentary the other day and Joss had planned for a sixth season until they found out they'd been cancelled he said half the things that happened in season 5 weren't going to hapen and he put them in so he could end the way he wanted to.

I don't like to think Wes is dead i mean he could be faking his death so he could help Angel without the Partners gunning for him or Illyria misread the death and Wes was found and taken to hospital...possibillites...and i agree with Wannabee-slayer

No..I think Wes was dead..I mean REALLY dead..but like everyone else said..I'm sure he would not have died if the show was not canceled..hell maybe even Fred would have been alive..

Hmmm, Wes not being actually dead is an interesting loophole. Illariya's an immortal demon who knows nothing of modern medical science. Maybe she missed something that a human wouldn't. I think that Joss really did intend to kill Wes, but if they wanted to use the character again, maybe rather than a ressurection, they could go that route.

Well i DO believe Wesley is dead, simply becausde Illyria might not know about medical science, but i do think she knows a thing or two about life and death.....
HAVING said that, i think its possible Illyria would use the ruse of Wesley being dead to allow Angel and Co survive the Alley, that would be a great twist, but again, it kinda negates that truly powerful and wonderful final moment of Wesley and 'Fred'.....so its tough, i can be truly content with both
