As reported in the current issue of TV Guide magazine, Sarah Michelle Gellar will not be back as Buffy this season, after all. The former star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in talks to do a two-episode arc on Buffy spinoff Angel. However, says Joss Whedon, creator of both supernatural series: "She feels it's not the right time." Asked about Gellar's decision to bail, Angel vamp David Boreanaz bares his fangs...

"I honestly don't know what happened," he grumpily tells TV Guide Online. "Why don't you ask her about it? I'm sure she'll come up with a good answer."

After simmering down "” good thing his face doesn't contort monstrously, like it does on TV! "” the actor looks to the future. Should Angel's fifth season turn out to be its last, Boreanaz hopes Gellar will at least do the final episode, if only to help him bite the dust in style. "If Sarah wants to come back for a final farewell "” like I did for her on her series finale "” that would be fantastic," he says. "Now, that's something for her to decide. That would be great, to have her. I think it would be great for the fans to see that.

"I think it's a responsibility to do those [farewell] shows and give the appreciation for the fans that are watching this," Boreanaz adds. "Those are the people that tune in and have made us who were are today. It's not like you do 50 or 100 episodes of a show and say, 'Screw you.' You have a responsibility to your fans, and that's important. You give as much as you can responsibly, as long as you're having fun with it."

Are you listening, Ms. Gellar? Buffy's fans are staking their hopes on it

Now he brought up some good points and I have to agree with basically everything he said, to a certain extent.

Wow, he certainly got rather annoyed!!

Did everyone notice how he said "If she wants to come back to do a final farewell - LIKE I DID FOR HER IN THE SERIES FINALE - that would be fantastic" He was making sure he emphasised that he did it for her, so it's her duty to do it for him.

I do agree though, i thnk appearing even once would be the least she could do.

I'm sorry but i think David is slightly out of order saying that in an interview (if he actually did say it). What makes you think that him saying that is going to make Sarah come back?? If an old work colleague said that about me behind my back for it to be broadcast I woudl be hurt!

Sarah is really busy at the moment with movies etc. It does not say that Sarah is NEVER going to return she is too busy at the moment and who said this was the last season of Angel.......i think this has been blown out of proportion.

Sarah was Buffy for 7 years, i think anyone who was doing a job for 7 years needs a break!

Well you never know the actual context that something like that was said in. Notice how they added "grumpily" in there?

And this line bothers me..
"It's not like you do 50 or 100 episodes of a show and say, 'Screw you.' You have a responsibility to your fans, and that's important. "

Okay..when would it ever end? Does that mean that you can't ever really leave a role? What about movie roles, people don't freak out about someone not wanting to do a sequel etc...or expect an actor to ONLY do that one role, out of responsibility to the fans.

And as for the Series Finale comment...well they let Angel have Ali while David came over to Buffy. It was a swap. So holding that over her head is just unfair in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to see SMG on Angel. However I also feel it's a personal choice, and it may not be in her best interests to go now (perhaps with movie schedules etc). I just feel really badly for her because of all of this flack she's getting from every which way.

I've gotta agree with Redslayer on this one. SMG has a movie career she's trying to establish. She wrapped Scooby Doo 2 and now she's about to start filming a horror movie called The Grudge. Scooby Doo 2 filmed in Vancouver and The Grudge is filming in Tokyo, so it's not like she could even film an Angel appearance during her off hours (like Alyson Hannigan did with American Pie and Buffy, which were both shot in LA).

But that said, I agree with pretty much everybody else in the known universe: I'd love to see Buffy make an appearance on Angel!

David what happened to 'Angel doesn't need Buffy, thats the past and Buffy was just a crush. Angel(the serie) can make it on it's own".

Wow....assumning that nothing was taken out of context or reworded at all, DB was ROUGH! I think he shoulda reigned that in a little...

I really have to agree with that and I think that Sarah should make that choice not her fans, I mean she has to do it after all. I mean I also think Angel can go on a couple for seasons, if she so choose to go on the last episode and give her some time to make the movies and such.

But I think it would be really nice to see her on there.

I'm with DB!!,...he sounded a bit upset but he was right...he did it for her and he was prob busy with his own series...and anyways tell me,..doesn't she have one free week??!!-Im becoming pretty anti-gellar...

I don't know, maybe. I agree with both sides here. If Sarah is too busy, then she's too busy. But David did appear in the last episode, and it was a enormously small appearance. Is it too hard for her to make one appearance?

I'm pretty surprised DB actually spoke out like that. It is disappointing that SMG can't do her spots this season. What I don't like is talk of this being the last season. I mean, NO! It's not, I've decided. I am hoping that SMG will eventually make an appearance. She is busy though, I get that. I wish I was more on the inside of all this business so that I could really understand everything. All the different comments and stories just aren't enough. We need an E! True Hollywood Story.

Wouldn't it be funny if this was all a big show to cover up the fact that she's gonna make a surprise appearance after all? I just thought of that...would be pretty funny.

I dont know why Smg isnt guest staring on Angel. I just really want her too. All she needs is like a week to film Angel, and it would give her more money, the fans some Buffy, and the network some more viewers. Oh well, I hope someone else from the Buffy cast will make an appearance.

clever thing Mdrio....they could be intentionally creating a controversy...only to surprise all of us in the end...lol...that would be ill...

db...is sounding like a pretty cool falk....
