Angel vs Moonlight

I'd watch just in case it is good but like Old master said, It sounds too much like "Forever Knight"
I've heard of Forever Knight but never watched it. I'll definitely watch Moonlight -- a show has to be really bad for me to stop watching. I haven't heard much about it but the fact that it's not on Fox give me a little hope. 😉

He Ain't No Angel, And He SURE Ain't No Spike!

i was kinda suprised - i liked it

So far, "Moonlight" has been on for two episodes, and, while it doesn't fill my heart with joy, it doesn't turn my stomach either. Hopefully the show will improve as it goes along IF it goes along and doesn't get canceled after a few episodes. I'm curious to see if they will have anything besides vampires (i.e. werewolves and such) or if it'll be exclusively vampire centered.

It's okay...nothing special. Like I said back when this thing was first announced, though, this show bears no resemblance to "Angel", whatsoever. Yeah, it's about a vampire detective but watching the show, "Angel" doesn't come to mind at all.

This show can barely even be called fantasy. The only supernatural elements are the vampires, and only that seems to be a plot device to attract vampire fans. And the vampires in questions are barely even vampires. They don't age and they drink blood and are slightly physically enhanced. Big whoop. *shrug*

Iv been on vacation & dying to see (Moonlight) that's why my sister has been taping it for me , so have no clue till the weekend if the show's good or not , only time will tell , I guess .

Actully , I was dying to see (Moonlight) when I 1st heard about it , although , that was around the time , I was just heading out on a vacation , so I didn`t get to see it where I was , although , I had my sister tape it for when I got back , which just happend 3 day`s ago , I also heard all the bad comment`s about it & so forth , I just got up a little while around go , cause , I wasn`t feeling well & couldn`t sleep , so I decided to have a snack & pop in in to the (vcr) Iv only seen 20 or 30min`s of the 1st ever episode & from what is see , it`s not as good as the perview , kept showing & going on about , although it ant bad to watch , one more thing , there are thing`s that are vreally comfusing & like messed up on that show , so , does someone got time to answer or agree with me on some of the thing`s that happen on that show diffewrent form (Angel) if so tell me & I`ll pm you everything I think is messed up on that show.

So what else do you want? Other than their faces not changing much what else is missing?

Most vampire stories have a lot more to the vampires than just that. And I don't even care about the "face change" as I hate the Buffyverse vampires for that reason. I guess I like the vampires in old folklore better?

There's not even a reason why Mick St. John should not really want to be a vampire, as all he is is a human with a few abilities.

The stake to the heart only paralyzes thing is different. It goes back to Stoker, I think. Dracula had a stake driven through his heart so that he could be killed by removing his head and stuffing his mouth with garlic. Also, there was no bursting into ash or dust with him like with Blade or Buffy/Angel. The body stayed intact and had to be buried with the severed head at its feet. On Moonlight so far, the only way to kill a vampire is cremation.

Or beheading.

I honestly dont see whats missing at all.

Is Anyone Else Actually Watching MOONLIGHT?

And probably NOT the right forum again, but I just couldn't post it in the Whedonverse catagory. It just feels WRONG!

It's not my fault CBS found a decent slot for it. And my TV is always on.

I can't say I like it. Although, it has been oddly intriguing trying to figure out just how plot stealing they can get away with.
I had seen this stupid blurb about it with the guy talking about how "nothing like this has ever been done" and then burst into the storyline and I was wondering if I was on a different planet than this idiot.
And the more I see, the more it seems to mirror Angel a LOT. Well, with less fun and laughs and oddly MORE brooding.

Last week, when his wife "came back from the undead" and was suddenly not dead and also not a vampire anymore....I just sat there with my mouth gaped open pondering how long it would take for Lindsey to show up.

And, I should add...I really don't like this "Stakes don't kill you, sunlight doesn't kill you, no one turns to dust theory". That's just not fun at all!

Good question. Where does talk of a hybrid such as Moonlight go on a board such as this one. In the beginning there was the inevitable comparisons to Angel in the thread title and that would put it in Inside Out. Then David Greenwalt joined up and that directed it to Whedonverse. Now Greenwalt's left the series, so that puts Moonlight talk in Social Studies. I was going to merge it with this one, but that asks the question "Are you going to watch Moonlight", and that's not really the same thing. Now we've moved on to "Are you watching it?"

And yeah one can make a case for it being Angelesque, but if you look into it Angel was old when it got there. Not really original. You can go back to comics for the origins of the vampire detective story, or possibly you can go back even farther than that. It's true many of what Joss calls "the tropes" of the genre are almost copy and paste jobs from Buffy and Angel to Moonlight, but again, as has been pointed out to me, they were old when B & A did them. Joss says it's more about what you have to say about them. So that would be the real question I guess, does Moonlight have something fresh to say.

I was reluctant to accept the show myself, but I have to admit, it's growing on me. I find a way to watch it now.

I watch it. I love it. Originally I only watched it because Jason Dohring was in it but I really do like it. Its nothing like Angel at all (with the exception of last weeks story line but we dont know how thats gonna play out yet)

Nope!! I can't seem to watch anything to do with vampires or the supernatural except what joss created! I can't even bring myself to watch Blade!!! sad but true...

i watched the first couple of episodes, but it really didnt hold my interest. Plus i watch too many other shows so i dont really have the time. Maybe when the whole season comes out, i'll grab that, sit around and watch and see if i really like it.

I love the show, and it's not a rip off of Angel at all. And you know what, even if it was, Angel is not on the air anymore. Don't make me have to go into all the things Joss "borrowed" from other things...

:D I always knew you had good taste!!
Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one confused as to where to put the post.

And it is a lot like Angel. And technically, if Angel's not on and there's a new vampire show, I'm okay with that. But, I don't want to go over the same plot lines again. It hasn't been canceled that long.

First we have the obvious PI in LA, Vampire and he does a lot of the brooding. And he doesn't even have the reason to brood that Angel did since he never killed half of Europe.

Then we have the girl, who always reminds me in the face of Kate. But, beyond that, we have this theory that he loves her and she loves him and they "can't" be together. Why, I don't understand. Most dating relationships don't last. What's the harm in a little dating?
Her character seems to encompass both Kate and Buffy in a weird way.

His friend is a fresh change. I like him okay, he seems to have a much better attitude about being a vampire. And the girl he killed that was making the vampire blood drug...she wasn't good, but at least she had that "get up and go" attitude.

I'm just confused about sleeping in the freezer. Is he trying to keep from decomposing? And if so, why is that not a problem during the day?

We are missing random demons, but I'm beginning to wonder if they aren't on the way. And we have the whole dead wife thing.

Sure, the episodes taken 1 by one aren't exactly like Angel. But, I guess I'm just a bit disappointed that it's not MORE different. Or more to the point, that the over-all gist seems to not only be the same but getting more similar.
It all just seems a little too close. Too close to Angel ending, the over all arc of the storyline being too much the same.
It kind of feels like when David left that they said, "Well, we'll use his genius even if he's not here" and went and watched Angel to pick and choose what they wanted to take.

Now, if this guy had been more like "I'm Mr Vampire Super Hero. You Sit Here Little Lady And Watch Me Jump Over This Building And Defeat The Villian" that would have been better. (As long as he doesn't turn into a bat, because Batman is taken!) I just feel like I watch it, I deserve something really different.

I realize that they THINK they are doing something different. There is CERTAINLY no room for a Slayer in this show. Heck, it's practically impossible to kill a vampire now without a vat of water with silver in it or starting fires all over town.
And I do agree with Nerd4Hire that some of the similarities probably can't be avoided. Like the episode where he had to drink Beth's blood to save his life. Seen it before, but they really couldn't avoid it.

As an added point, am I the only one a little creeped out that he saved Beth as a kid and now has the hots for her? It doesn't really make him a pedophile, but on the other hand, you say "the Olsen Twins" and my head sees them as little red haired 2 year olds. In my head, my son is older than my Brother who will forever be 6 even though he can pick me up and toss me around like a ragdoll now. I saw Brad Renfroe at a blues club one night and all I could think of was how "cute" he was in Tom and Huck which was the first thing I had ever seen him in.
How he doesn't look at this woman and see her as 9, baffles me. Especially if he's not "used" to being a vampire yet.

It feels like the competition with artists on eBay. I see it happen a lot. Someone does a painting and it sells for $2000 and suddenly, there are 300 of them out there, but one has a red background or a tree with blue leaves.

That's enough for my novel. I guess I was just hoping for something more different.

If you're going to say Moonlight is copying Angel, then Angel copied Nick Knight.

There's already a thread about Angel vs Moonlight somewhere...

lol I was going to watch Moonlight but I didn't find out about it til 3 episodes already aired so I'll just wait til the show is over and watch all the eps >.<
