Pursuant to my last post, I've merged this one with the existing thread comparing Angel and Moonlight and changed the title. If anyone wants to actually talk about Moonlight itself, please start a thread in Social Studies about it.

I disagree that Angel is like Forever Knight. Granted, there are similarities, but they are more general than specific.
I'd be MUCH more happy if it wasn't set in LA and if he wasn't a PI. Fine, maybe the brooding and redemption would be there, if he lived in Cleveland and was a cop or a mystery writer doing "investigative research". Even if he had Beth's job! It's all the similarities together...mainly it's the dead wife thing that pushed me RIGHT over the edge.
I was okay up until then. But, you add all of it together, especially with the "We did have David Greenwalt" and it just kind of smells a bit bad.
I'm not saying it's awful. And maybe the stinly smell is MORE from their advertising as this was something that has "never been done"...which might have been easier to swallow if we could imagine they'd never heard of Angel, but we can't.
The only other major complaint I'd make is that all the characters seem to "distant". Beth and Mick seem to hang out a lot. But, the rest of the "cast" could be in an episode, not in the next two, pop up again, go away again. Which, of course is quite unlike Angel where they seemed to want the cast to interact and form relationships. I know we're supposed to "assume" Beth and her boyfriend have SOMETHING and Mick is really friends with his buddy. But, I just don't feel it. I think the lady at the gas station and I are closer than this cast. Which is sad, because I think, in the end, that is what makes or breaks a show.

Looks like an okay-ish show... but most shows at that time usually looked like cr*p ^_^ Has anyone seen it ? Does the quality of it look terrible >.< maybe in 5 years when I'm dieing of boredom I'll check it out for kicks. >.<

But you did mention Nick Knight. Is there another vampire show with Nick Knight as the main character? IMDb says there's not. If there is, then I'm sorry, I was just going by what I could find and I didn't see another.
And I think saying not to watch it is rather bizarre answer.
I already said I don't HATE the show. I'm just shocked and saddened that instead of coming up with something different, it seems to be getting more and more similar to Angel the longer I watch.
Where should I go to voice my amazement/disappointment that the story arc seems to be mirroring Angel?
Well I just don't understand what's the difference if you don't hate the show? Why complain about how much it's like Angel? If you like it, watch it, who cares?

I watch it because I don't HATE it. But that doesn't mean I'm going to not voice my disgust when and if the writers don't show integrity.
Some parts are good. CBS gave it a good time slot. I watch Ghost Whisperer and I watch Numbers.
The individual episodes are okay. I practically live in my office working and listening to the TV. There are some shows I'd rather see infomercials than have on the TV. Moonlight isn't one of them, it's enjoyable in it's own right. But, I also love my brother, much more than the show, and even HE does things all the time that make me want to scream, "WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?!?!"
I DO except MORE of writers and people in the creative arts in general. I DO expect more of the creative community. That's a first year lesson in both a BFA and creative writing degree. Especially once you're compared to someone else's work, you must work HARDER to show your work is unique and not a cheap rip off.
Law and Order doesn't take their "Ripped From The Headline" episodes and shove them out there like, "Look at this original idea we came up with" They say, "We stole most of the plot line from real life and put in enough twists that we avoid lawsuits"
The fact that they DID HAVE David, (and that they knew that getting him would bring in the insane Buffy/Angel fans) and they have been compared to Angel, says that THEY have a larger burden to make it different.
Maybe we don't know how the wife story is going to turn out. But, we DO have information. Like, SHE'S HERE and she's NOT a vampire anymore. Which is enough for me.
I think I can assuming that a dead vampire can't do a chant or spell to make herself undead of the undead anymore....we have to assume that she had HELP coming back.
But, if it's not that and she DID have help of some sort...does it really make it a "new" story if some lawyers did it or the guy at the 7-11?
There is some hope it's a strange reincarnation thing. Which is what I'm hoping for.
But, the fact remains that it's a new show, they didn't HAVE to make her dead to begin with. They didn't HAVE to make her human now. And if they don't want to be compared to Angel and want to show how different they are they should have taken the care to say, "EEK! People are already comparing us to Angel. We should either not do this storyline or wait on it."
If it doesn't bother you, that's fine. But, it DOES bother me. Which, is why I created the post. To voice my bothered-ness and to see if anyone else was left scratching their heads wondering. You can compare anything if you try hard enough. Not to mention how much Joss copied from other things. In any case, Moonlight does not have the same feel as Angel at all. It is done in a completely different way from Angel, the writing and filming styles are different, and plenty of other things are different as well. They are two different shows. The similarities are there if you're gunning to say they ripped off Angel, but you could probably do that with any two shows.
We also don't yet know if Coraline's really not a vampire yet - hell, she might have found a way to fool Mick. She's crafty like that. 😉

Yes, and not to mention it has a different cast, different lots to shoot on, different sets, and probably different janitors. That doesn't speak to much of anything.
If I was watching another artist's work and immediately whipping up paintings that mirrored theirs that wouldn't show much integrity. If they wrote to me and said they could prove I was looking at this person's paintings and they were too similar. That they could prove that two weeks after they put up a painting I would list one that had the same composition. I could also make statements like yours. I could say, "Nope, I sign mine on the opposite side, I don't use the same kind of paint, I paint on a different kind and size canvas, I use more blue, there are different styles of brush strokes, mine have different titles". And I bet I could avoid a lawsuit. I bet I could also make a nice living out of it. But, what does that say about my integrity? Not a whole heck of a lot. And in the end, is it REALLY my work? Sure, I painted the stuff. But, I'm using someone else's brain power.
And, if once the similarities were publicly announced and I took the stand that my paintings were SO different...it would surely speak to my creative integrity if I didn't make DARN SURE they could no longer be compared.

I didnt even want to give "moonlight" a chance. I thought it sounded far too much like a rip off of angel. But I have watched a few episodes and dont like it at all! Beth does remind me of kate, I kept thinking she was a cop and was confused when she wasnt allowed on crime scenes etc!
Any way, even if I wasnt a joss fan I probably still wouldnt like moonlight.It just doesnt pull me in, I am already bored with it! I dont know a whole lot about how shows are filmed or what they are hoping to achive, I just know if I like it or dont, I dont. Cant explain it in as many words as everyone else or with any "real" argument beside the fact I just havent enjoyed an episode of moonlight yet.

Into Every Generation...
i got turned off i guess wrongfully so, by all the critics before it even came out saying "its NOT Angel". I mean, the show was trashed before the pilot even aired!!! I watched the pilot and thought it was ok, but not enough to pull me in. That's the first and last episode i watched. I didn't hate it, i thought it was alright. But then, im not too fond of a lot of t.v. shows lately. I miss the stuff from the 90s.

Well, no, it's not like Buffy or Angel. But, I wouldn't say it's trash.
Yes, it does bug me that they seem to be rifling through Angel to come up with ideas of what to do next. And I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that perhaps it's just to get through the first season.
It does have some potential. I can be a bit cheesy at times with the weird voice over, but I can live with some cheese. And I think the actors just need to perhaps take it more serious. Maybe that's not it, but they come across TO ME more like a high school play sometimes than a real "drama". It makes it hard to believe in what they are saying. They DO seem to be getting a bit better. Maybe they just needed to EASE into the "Vampire World".
Of course Buffy and Angel fans are going to be mad if there's suddenly a new vampire show.. let alone one about a vampire PI working in LA, with a lot more similarities to Angel that I care to go on about. It's a bit unfair to tell people to get over it when we're on a BtVS/Angel board ..in my opinion 😉

I've watched the first five or so episodes of Moonlight, and so far, it's great! Aside from the fact that it's about a good vampire and all that, I don't really see any similarities between it and Angel. It reminds me more of the Twilight book series than anything.
By the way, did anyone else notice that Beth's boyfriend in the first few episodes was in an episode of Buffy? Post-rat Amy and Willow made him cage dance at the Bronze.
I heard he died later in Moonlight, which is a shame...I would've loved to see them make him cage dance. Oh, and Mick can cage dance with him, just because, well, he's so darn pretty. Okay, I'll stop before I start ranting.
