Angel vs. Riley

Did anyone else think that it was funny that Riley thought that he could really take Angel on or was it just me. Just seeing him talk to Angel like he thinks he knows the entire story, thinks he really knows Angel. And then seeing Riley burst through Buffy's dorm room when Angel is there is quite funny. To see him pull a gun on Angel like he thinks thats really gonna kill him. But I have to say that I really liked the bickering that Angel and Riley were doing in Buffy's dorm room. And the fact that she was still gonna go talk to Angel privately even though Riley didn't like that idea. You could obviously see that Angel outranked Riley in Buffy's life. That what he had to tell her she was gonna let him tell her that whether Riley like it or not. I really think that that really showed how much more Buffy valued Angel than Riley.

I totally agree. I loved the scene in the dorm room with Angel & Riley, very funny stuff. And yes, I think that Buffy still valued
Angel over Riley. Riley was a dork, and totally threatened by Angel being there, especially after Xander told him that they slept together.

Something that you have to realize about Riley at that point is that the only vampire that he had ever had any dealings with, with the possible exception of a few fledglings, was Spike, who had been rendered helpless to defend himself. Riley could abuse and degrade Spike as much as he wanted to, and I believe that he subconsciously equated Angel with Spike. Luckily for him, Angel was only concerned with defending himself, not actually attacking a human, or Riley's saga would have ended right then and there. Period. (which might have made for a better Seasons 4 & 5)

I think the Angel vs Riley dynamic in this episode was great and kinda pleased you whether you were a Bangel or Buffy/Riley (Ruffy?) fan.
The fight scene really put both men in a positive light. It allowed Angel to look like cool, kicking butt suave vampire guy but at the time allowed Riley to be all prince-like and defendery. He believed Angel had gone evil and despite the fact he knew Angel could do him serious damage he wasn't going to let him hurt Buffy.

Then the scene in Buffy's dorm room made Angel and Riley equals as Buffy makes them so by being stronger and more powerful than both of them. Plus it's amusing as both act like disgruntled school boys especially with Angel grumbling 'He started it'.

And am I the only who thought that after Riley said he wasn't leaving the room so instead Angel and Buffy leave made Riley look really cute? Especially with his quietly added 'I'm not moving a muscle' after they'd already left the room. I just thought it made him look unbelievably cute. And the very same scene made Angel look unbelievably young and human- as for instance he gives Riley a 'nyeh nyeh nyeh' look as he leaves the room with Buffy.

I think the scenes were just great for both characters and inadverently both couples. And just made me love Riley just that little bit more at the same time as appreciating the Bangel 'ship even more also. Weird. Haha

I definitely think Angel was doing more than defending himself. When Riley assumes he's up to his old tricks, Angel does little to dissuade him from this opinion. Even when Buffy defends him towards Riley, he says he might hurt him. I think he wanted to pound on him for having everything he can't, kind of like when he gets to pounds on Groo while saving his life.

However, I agree if he intended to kill Riley, I personally think he could have.

I think that we all can agree that whether Angel and Buffy were together in a relationship, or they were dancing around each other in the beginning, or now that they're apart; every time Angel is around Buffy he feels human. Buffy has always been a sort of life line for him. She know who and more important what he was and had accepted in full of who he is. We saw this in the episode 'What's My Line Part 1'. She kisses him even though he's all 'vamped' out. Because of all of that, she's the only person that's ever made him feel completely human.

PLEASE! whats riley gonna do? get out his little man toys and assume he can take on a 200+ year old demon. with his stupid organisation he usually needs an entire troup to take on a normal vampire 😛
and i think ur right about buffy going outside with angel. i love the look on angels face when he walks past riley hehe

I love the dorm room scene, mainly because it still shows how well buffy and Angel understand each other. She never says 'Lets go outside.' She just looks at him and they leave the room. I was like 'aww, how sweet.' Plus Angel's ''Oh, and Riley, I don't like him.'' comment was so cute.

The fight was great. I don't think Angel felt the need to try and make an excuse not to fight Riley. Riley was the guy who was sleeping with the love of his life. I think it was a kind of misunderstanding as well. Riley's comment about Angel losing his soul may have been taken the wrong way by Angel. Riley was actually asking the question, Angel may have thought he was taunting him.

I thought the ''you actually sleep with this guy'' line was hilarious!
