Angel seems like only gets love from Bangel shippers. And That makes me sad.Because I hate this ship so much. But Angel is my favorite character.

Have you seen his spin off ?
What personally makes me sad it’s the amount of assumptions you do.
- Only Bangels love Angel
- People that love Sprusilla is only Bangels who want Spike get out of their ship
And you said lot of other things like that that i don’t have in my memory right now.
please you need to have a more open mind. I don’t say that to be mean to you, I’m not against you but you need to stop putting people in boxes. Yes there are non Bangel people who love Angel. Many Spuffy fans actually like him. And Sprusilla fans like it because of the story and the chemistry between James and Juliet that’s all.

I am sorry If I hurt you but I think you should'nt be here
@Paulrina and why shouldn’t I be here ?

Edit : Well sorry but who are you to exclude some people of a thread ? I wasn’t going to participate at first even if I think that what you do is very exclusive and that isn’t nice to exclude people but whathever.. however when you said « Angel gets love from Bangels » that’s an assumption, false by the way so I consider I have the right to respond to you because that’s too easy to do some criticism and then prevent a category of people to respond to you because you have excluded us.

Well.I said no Bangels. And You are known Bangel
I voted Like, but only for the spinoff. If only counting Buffy's show then it would be somewhere between Like and Indifferent (there are moments I really dislike him, but that's true of all characters, including Buffy).

I voted love but to be fair I don’t know how I’d feel if he didn’t have a show were he became a layered fleshed out character and not just Buffy’s mysterious love interest. I don’t think I would love the character as much but I’d still appreciate what he brought to the show, especially with the Angelus arc.

The Angelus arc is what got me obsessed with the show, so I liked the STORY, but not so much the character.

By your own admission you have not been in the Buffyverse fandom long, yet you continually make these broad statements, which are untrue and somewhat insulting, and seem to serve no purpose other than to insult shippers.

There are plenty of Angel fans who don't ship Bangel, and even if that weren't true, why would it matter? They still love the same character you do, for varying reasons, so why should also shipping Bangel have anything to do with it or sadden anyone in any way?

Angel is the absolute fictional character I love above all else. I love Angel because he's Angel, not because he's with Buffy. I'm Bangel (strongly Bangel I would say) but I certainly didn't stop loving Angel when he left Sunnydale. I saw him disappear into the fog on Graduation Day, a very sad scene, but I followed Angel into that fog and went to L.A. with him. ATS, despite 22 years having passed, is still my favorite show.

A lot of broad statements , but others have commented on those already so I won’t add on to the pile.

What I will do is somewhat disprove some of your statements here by saying that I am a hardcore (and well documented) Spuffy fan, but I still find a lot to like about Angel. He is a complex and interesting character. Is he my favorite? No, but he is enjoyable to watch, especially once he gets his own program.

This post makes it kind of seem like you think a lot of users see Angel as just arm-candy for Buffy, which is far from the case. His character is most definitely not defined by being in one relationship, hence the 5 season television show with his name on it where there is one Bangel episode. A lot of the reasons I enjoy Angel come from that show especially, and it’s hard to deny that the character grows a lot after Bangel.

Some of your posts have been great and have been interesting trains of thought. 🙂 However, I’ve also read a few that just seem like overgeneralizing of people’s opinions, and that isn’t all that fair to everyone. Would love to read some of the reasons you like Angel but don’t like Bangel, for example, instead of reading that Angel gets no love from anyone but Bangels.

Just some food for thought going forward, since you definitely have some opinions that I’d love to get some insight into! 😀

You are a gem 💎
I feel like non-Bangels also give him a lot of love... many non-Bangels ship Cangel and really like the way he is in that frienship/relationship.

Also, I don't think we get to see a lot of Angel's character until after he's with Buffy, in his own show. I am a hardcore Bangel shipper, but even I will admit that he doesn't have much personality early-on; I attribute this to bad writing, as I think they wrote him originally with the sole purpose to be Buffy's love interest--I think you can read into a lot of small things to comment on his character, but he is pretty basic on the surface of what they give us until his own show.

As a result, a lot of people actually only like him after that point, therefore only liking him when he's not really a part of Bangel, meaning a lot of people who really like him actually aren't Bangel shippers--when Bangel stuff is happening, not much is really happening for Angel, which I also think this is a writing choice. Buffy's show is all about her and they rarely want her love interest to have enough going on that it would overshadow her story--her SOs develop more later in the show, but like I said, Angel was created solely to be her love interest and he was created in the very beginning before the show got really rich with character development, so he is the one who suffers the most from bad/basic writing choices as Buffy's SO.

Full disclaimer, I am a Bangel stan and I prefer him when he is on Buffy and not his show because I prefer him when his sole (haha, soul/sole) purpose is to love Buffy, BUT my above comments are more an objective analysis of why many others like Angel, because I really understand that perspective, despite the fact that Angel as part of Bangel is mostly the Angel that gets me in my feels. I wish we had seen more of Angel in his own element with a deeper personality having a relationship with Buffy, though! I feel like we got a glimpse of this dynamic in End of Days/Chosen and a little towards the end of season 3--he's more sarcastic and sassy and less of an intense brooding loner when he interacts with Buffy.

You literally took the words right out of my head. I am finding it so hard to believe in my current rewatch (where I’m at episode 6 of season 3) where Angel is this amazing individual and this great love for Buffy. Like okay, pre-teen/teenage me was OVER THE MOON for them. And early thirties me is like “wait, no. He didn’t actually do anything for her in 3 seasons except lust after her, kind of help in like 4 episodes, sleep with her, turn evil, come back, help her in like 4 more episodes, and leave for his own show”. Like there was NO depth to his character in Buffy. And even in his own show. He kind of grows, but he follows the literal same tropes for 5 seasons straight of not trusting his closest friends and allies, leading him to making HUGE mistakes, and then accidentally saving the day.

but I mean, I like the guy. Lol.

Paulrina Well.I said no Bangels. And You are known Bangel

Sorry Paulrina but you can't ask/say of Bangels to not post here in this thread. Everyone is allowed to post no matter what couples they ship. No one is excluded to post as long as it's on topic. Even in the Battle ship forum (Spuffy : Backstep & Bangel Close your eyes) as long as it's done in respect & positive.

If you want to talk about Angel as a character outside of his relationship with Buffy then do.

Angel used to be one of my favorite characters but what he did in S8 was unforgivable to me. At this point, I find him repulsive, his self-righteousness maddening, and his hero complex barf-worthy at best.

I’ve adopted a “comics-free” canon where the comics were an alternative reality of what could have happened, but are not actually relevant to the Buffy story. After reflection, the comics were just really bad fanfiction. Except for Billy Lane. That’s the only canon I accept.

Don't know (or remember) Billy Lane, but I fully endorse the rest (and as a result take your word on Billy).
He's pretty much a piece of garbage in my book.

-He stalks a high school girl and begins a relationship with her in his 240s
-He quite often allows murderous vampires to continue to live and feed due to a past history with them, eg Darla and Drusilla multiple times
-He was too much of a coward to fight the good fight as a human despite the franchise being full of normal humans doing just that (Giles, Xander, Willow, Cordelia pre-demon, Tara, Dawn, non-demon Anya, Riley, Graham, non-wolf Oz, Wesley, Gunn, Fred, Kate, Jenny, etc)
-He was basically about to do the same thing with Cordelia that he did with Buffy; enter into a relationship he knew they couldn't consummate without risking his soul
-Straight up murders Drogan
-Mind-wipes his son in the exact same way Willow did to Tara and the gang

He sits around moping about his past and contemplating what the right thing to do is, and then very often does the wrong thing.

@Cohen I think at the end of the day, the comics are sort of optional material.

If you want to see what might have happened post S7 of BtVS & S5 of AtS, the options are there for you. Definitely not mandatory though.

However, can we all just agree that there are some amazing artists in the books? Rebekah Isaacs and Chris Samnee are incredible
