Someone made this interesting observation about Angel toward the end of Season 5:

Does anyone think it's weird that Angel initiated this big, huge plan knowing that the Senior Partners would rain hell down upon him? I mean the whole reason he took W&H was to protect Connor. In NFA he's all, "if your alive, then I've already won". I mean, aren't the Senior Partners one of the few people that know who Connor is, why wouldn't they just kill him two minutes after they Angel? It's been bugging me for a while.

I guess it fits in with Angel's character, to have this meticulously thought out plan, with source books and Drogyn and poisoned slaves, but to completely over look the thing he loves more than anything else. Hell, he even sent Nina out of town, but Connor doesn't even get a "duck and cover, son".

I must say that Angel/us plans bug the hell out of me. Acathla, for instance. "Hey, lets suck the world into hell! I'm sure the fact that all the humans or as I like to call them, our only food source, will die won't effect us at all!"

Then another person replied:

You know, I'm not sure why anyone, Fang Gang or fans, would have ever thought that Angel/us could come up with a coherent and sensible plan. The guy's been working off sheer emotion since his whoring days as Liam. Every single decision he's ever made has been about anger or hatred or love or lust or all of them combined. It's strictly impulse without a lot of thought toward the consequences. And what makes it more strange is that Spike's portrayed as the emotional hothead, yet he's also the one who preaches realism.

Yes, but remember the very end of the episode "Underneath," when Angel learns from Lindsay the real reason W&H had offered the AI team the keys to the firm's L.A. division in the first place? To distract them from the Apocalypse. The real apacalypse. Which, as you can imagine, changes Angel's dilemma quite signifigantly.

Agreed, that was a stupid plan. Personally, I never cared much for the Angel/us on early Buffy, or even the whole bangel drama for that matter. Just like Angel from AtS season 3 and beyond. Atleast Spike, as an evil vampire even, acknowledged that despite all the Big Bad tough talk, he himself didn't want to see the world destroyed.

That's what I always thought, too. Sure, Angelus was trying to get the world sucked in to hell....part and parcel....but I figured he was going too, plenty of food sources. Wouldn't have lasted forever, of course, but I'm sure he wasn't thinking that far ahead!

Yeah......Manchester United, Leicester-Bloody-Square and Happy Meals with legs. Heh - that was almost the one time Spike showed any real foresight!
