Angel starts with Darla but its not love cause he has had no soul, meets Buffy and it's probably the strongest relationship he had, leaves Buffy and goes to LA but returning every now and than, shows extreme care towards Darla and also decides to sacrifice himself for her, builds a solid relationship with Cordelia which he wants to take a step further, "I need Cordy", calls Buffy while making love with "Cordy", returns to Sunnydale to help Buffy, he wants to be the one to "eat the cookie" lol, "I'm not getting older" thing, Cordy is back and Angel is all over the place, he wants Cordy to stay and thy have the big kiss, Cordy passes, Angel moves to Nina for a short period of time, Angel is visited by Cordy on "after the fall" showing how she still looks over him, BTVS S8 super-mega-sex with Buffy lol, everything is ONCE AGAIN ruined and Angel is now alone... Give me break...

It seems like a battle between Buffy and Cordelia mostly.
Of course Buffy will always be that special person to him but at the same time the guy is trying to move on and Cordelia was the perfect fit to him, when Cordy was also out of the picture he did the same thing..l try to move on (even though if it felt too quick excuse me) but the chick is out of the picture too and goes back to Buffy.

Who would Angel be with at the present time?

Ideally in Angel's mind, he's fist choice will always be Buffy.

Personally, I find his relationship with Darla to be the most interesting.

Realistically, Angel will stay single.

I've never read the comics, but wouldn't the comics say who Angel is "with now"?

Pushing the comics to one side and just musing after only seeing the tv shows: Cordelia is dead and Buffy really feels out of the picture permanently. The care and love will always be there, but it's really over with I have to think.

My vote therefore is for "someone else", but I agree with @Blaze, unless something REALLY drastic happens to change things (like his curse finally being lifted, and maybe not even that) I think Angel is a bachelor with very brief romantic relationships for as long as he's alive. No romantic relationship will be enduring for him.

The thing about Cordelia's/angel's "relationship" (they never really got to have one, it mostly was dangled infront of our faces) was that she was human. The whole reason angel left buffy (other than David getting his own show) was because she was human and he could not give her a life; no children, no sunshine, no sex. Nothing except darkness. Well, he couldn't offer cordy anything more. It's like he was trying to be with her, when deep down he knew it could not end any different than it had with our lovely miss summers. So I don't know why he even tried to pursue a romanic and loving relationship with cordy.

I also would like to say that with buffy he had pure happiness, passion, and everyday was like the end of the world. With cordy there was camaraderie and a strong bond but even in his fantasy, everything leading up to them getting intimate had to go perfectly, in order for him to achieve true happiness. Conner had to accept him as his father and accept cordy wanted him, they had to defeat the bad guy, ect. I think that shows who his heart belongs to at the end of it all.

At the moment, and for a good long while, nobody. 🙁

Angel needs friendship and support right now, not romance. I'm not sure he even deserves romance for the moment- he should just flog and punish himself...😉

But Cordelia was a phase of his life, a friendship that grew into something more. Even if Cordelia somehow came back, she herself put it best when she said that they 'missed' their moment.
I think Angel looks back on Cordelia with fondness and love but its over.

Buffy...Angel will always love Buffy, but its a love that, for various reasons, can be destructive to him, her and everyone around them.
If the world got better and he could stop fighting for a while then he'd be with Buffy, no question.

he still got Faith around right? :) she could be a fantastic buddy
Personally I don't think Cordelia had any less effect on Angel, they grew on each other.
I would have to say that if the writers aren't so cruel most of the time, Angel would have fitted very well with Cordelia even though I feel that their friendship is priceless rather than the ''never-really-happened-relationship''.

Somehow I think that Angel wanted to move on from Buffy when he had the opportunity to do so, and Cordy was that opportunity.

I think if the choice was based on the perfect conditions and him being able to be with anyone he wanted, you know without the world ending or someone dying, he'd pick Buffy. In the comic he has already told us that he is not over her and he asked Giles to tell him when the time is right for him to reach out to Buffy again.

I think he'd give anything to have his best friend Cordelia back. The possible relationship they could have had didn't touch the magic of their friendship.

But as things stand now, I think no one.

Without a doubt, if you asked Angel who he would like to be with, he would immediately say, Buffy."

And then he would leave the room, seek out a dark corner, and brood about it for a couple of weeks.

Buffy was Angel's first real love, but she wasn't his perfect love, and she won't be his only love. Neither was Cordy, and neither was Nina. She's out there, but he hasn't met her yet. But if he lives long enough, and is real, real lucky, he will eventually meet her.

So:

Somebody Else

Definitely.

I have to quote from memory here from somebody at DH, stating that 'when these two ( i.e. Buffy and Angel) are together the story is over'. So, realistically speaking while the comics are running 'these two' would have to be kept separate, just because somebody is selling/paying for the comics. In practical terms this translates into Angel not being with anybody at present time indeed. In the same practical terms it also appears that Buffy - Angel are still a very possible end game. And I also want to say that since Joss went to great lengths to re-invent Buffy-Angel as the greatest tragic love story in his universe that 'transcends everything' - even post - tv series, then nope, for Angel there would not be anybody else since he already met her. I am not saying there will be a happy ending, knowing Joss and all. Likely both of them will end up dead after being together for the briefest of moments. But seriously, there ain't anybody out there for either of them while it is Joss who is running the shots.

Angel can't be together with Buffy because he has a problem. So he should either fix his problem or face the reality, get over her and move on with his not-life. Find somebody else but you know what, with such an attitude he actually deserves to be alone.

'when these two ( i.e. Buffy and Angel) are together the story is over'

Yeah, because the entire story of Buffyverse orbits around Buffy's and Angel's sex lives since BtVS is a soap opera and not an action-adventure show. Such a bullshit and anyway, these two were together in season 2 and 3 and hey, the world did not end. Shipper logic, see how poisonous it is?

Actually its both soap and action/adventure! It's a multi-gentre show, who knew...

Poisonous or not, this is an exact quote from a guy who is responsible for running the series. I did not make it up.

Btw, if you are not interested in shipping why are you even bothering to express opinion in the thread about Angel's love life ?

Truth be told, I would not mind Angel (and Buffy) having an interesting story that was not all about them being tragically split. And my favorite part of the comics is actually Willow and her dealing with the magic or lack of thereof in the world. It is my impression though , that Joss basic idea for the comics was about tragic love that is ruining or fixing the world. Go sue him for not being more adventure oriented.

Why not? Look, if my opinions do not interest you, do not read them. No reason to be mean.

That's crazy talk. OK, I may not be a soap opera expert but in my darker times I did follow a certain popular soap opera for a while. Trust me on this, Buffy's no soap.

Nuh, your opinions are sometimes interesting to behold, but goodwill and etiquette has to be reciprocal. I.e. if you call all shippers and shipper-talk 'poisonous' in a thread that is clearly created to be shippy, it ain't mean to point out that you are being not quite polite either.

(It all really boils down to the story having something of worth to everybody. The way the story is being told right now in the comics seasons, I seriously stopped caring about action-adventure and not-shippy character interaction content post the last quarter of S8. The last arc where I cared about anything but the 'bermuda' triangle was, I think, Willows mini. Everything else either in A&F or BtVS side was pure BS from my PoV. Mostly because they screw with the verse's mythology so badly and in so many ways that trying to guess what is happening is pointless- it is pure complete ass-pull.)

Really? The last time I checked Buffy was jokingly but consistently classified as 'supernatural soap' by every second reviewer out there. Not to mention that it clearly is the source material for 90% of the so-called urban fantasy /fantasy romance paperback out there. Dresden files and True Blood being the most popular 'offspring'. I have not watched a single soap episode since my college years, but I sure can spot one when I see it.

Buffy is very much supernatural soap. With awesome beat-downs.
At present time? Probably no one honestly. I mean I know he's had centuries to brood but I'm not sure he's at a point where he ought to be in a relationship (at least not a serious one).

I think, if the world was set right, Angel would go to Cordelia. And I say this because I feel like relationship between him and Buffy was so immature. It was a highschool love, it was a Romeo-Juliet love, but it wasn't permanent. Both of them grew as individuals, Buffy went to college, had normal experiences, and moved on. I still don't think that Buffy could deal with Angel always feeling like he needs to be a hero first and a boyfriend second. Cordelia helped him be a hero, and she helped him see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. She was his friend before his romantic interest, and so they have a stronger bond because of that. Cordelia didn't do 'normal' human things because of her visions and such.

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm not really into Bangel, but I always thought that it was like watching a soap opera when they were together. Not interesting to me personally. The idea of Angel and Cordelia doesn't seem to fit at all, but they learn as a team and it works in a yin-yang sort of way. Cordelia will always be Angel's sunshine to his dark, rainy clouds 🙂

agreed with your end quote ;)
I voted Cordy. I think they are a well fitted couple. This, is of course entirely biased because I'm cangel, and totally hypothetical since Cordy is dead and has been for many years. lol :Oh well, lets all dream. 😛
