How's this for a Season 9 story line for Angel's book:

Angel's sitting all alone in the dark, brooding and feeling sorry for himself, and up pops:

Higher Being Cordie-- Okay, bub, you've sat around in the dark, brooding and feeling sorry for yourself long enough. Time to get off of that (literally) dead ass and making amends for all the trouble you've caused since I've been gone.

Angel-- Cordy? Oh, Cordy, is it really you? I must be dreaming...

H B C-- No dream. Me in the Higher Being flesh, come down from on high to straighten you out. You've really screwed the pooch this time. We may have to extend on into a Tenth Season, just to get this mess straightened out.

A-- It really wasn't all my fault. See, I was...

H B C-- If you say that you were possessed by an evil spirit and forced to act against your will, I'm gonna put this stylish right boot so far up your ass that you'll be tasting shoe polish all the way through Season 11. Now, let's go. Time's a'wasteing, and you've got a lot to make up for. It's a good thing that we're immortal. We may be working on this until you can cross over with Fray without time travel.

A--Who's Fray?

H B C-- Sweet girl. Purple hair. Has a pet four armed monkey. She's a Slayer...

A-- There's a Slayer MONKEY?

H B C-- No. it's a SPIDER monkey. The girl's the... Oh, never mind. Come on, we've got to pick up Wes before we get started He's gonna be the official score keeper, balancing out all your old screw ups with all your new good deeds. He's compiled what he calls a big "Karma List," and he says that you're gonna have to grow a mustache and change your name to Earl. He'll have to explain it all to you.

Then Angel, Cordy, and Wes set out to mark off all of the bad things that Angel has done for the last several centuries, and stack up some good karma.

I like it :)
If Cordy returns...why not? What do you think about this new Fang Gang: Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Fred, Gunn and Faith? Maybe Connor could help sometimes, during his school holidays. But only sometimes.

Cordy is his best friend (at least) and knows him better than anyone else. But Faith can support, with all the other friends.

Personally, I think Doyle was Angel's best & only friend we've seen...

Cordy was a damsel-turned-ally-turned-love interest, and the others were allies, rivals, family members, etc. But Doyle, and arguably Spike to some extent, were the only ones with whom Angel let down his guard, under normal circumstances.

I mean, in Doyle's nine episodes, he probably caused Angel to laugh, joke, or smile more than the rest of the team did in the other 100 episodes combined.

Doyle is definetely dead. After him it was Cordy, the only one who could emotionally reach him. He was more open and confident with her. She called him 'family', she warmed his blood and Angel wasn't ashamed of drinking in front of them anymore. She consoles Angel after connor's kidnapping. And so on.

Oh, and Angel laughs, jokes and smiles with Cordy. since their first encounter. When did you see Angel laugh and smile with Doyle?!

No, I agree. The staff has even outright said that Doyle won't be returning due to the tragic nature of Glenn's death, I just think he was more of a friend to Angel than anyone.

I agree about Cordy, but that was kind of my point--Angel was hot for Cordy for awhile there, with Doyle, they were just buddies (it seemed 😛).

The final scene of "In the Dark" and first scene of "Hero," showed how comfortable Angel felt with Doyle. I mean, Angel making a joke about somebody's mom?!? Hahaha!

It might have also been the chemistry since David & Glenn were best friends in real life, where Boreanaz doesn't even socialize with any of the Whedon alum except for Christian Kane, I don't think he sees Nick or Seth anymore.

It might have been body language too--Angel's generally pretty uptight, unlike Angelus or Booth, and he just seemed looser around Doyle & Spike. And with Spike, I'd say it's mostly because Spike having seen him at his worst meant that any facades would be for naught.

I've been thinking a little lately about Angel's story in season 9, and I've realized that not only are the Scoobies and all the other Slayers pissed at him, but his Twilight army must want his head on a platter too! A lot of them died, and now he's abandoned them. And speaking of abandonment, I wonder if we're going to see anything of the new universe as well. It's got to pissed as hell as well! He's got his work cut out for him that's for sure.

I am interested to see what happens with Angel in Season 9. Of course I'm still pissed off over
Giles' death
but we shall see what my thoughts on the character are after Season 9 comes out and we get into the story.

Aww I love that!! Cordy totally needs to come down and straighten him out. If I got to choose between Cangel and Fangel, Cangel will always win.

But since there is zero chance of this happening. Faithy will just have to kick his butt into shape.

Why the "zero chance" of Cordy returning? Of all of the characters from either show, Cordy, as a Higher Being, would be by far the most logical one to return. Quite likely, because of her no-longer-human status, she might actually be able to command powers similar to, but not identical to, magic, and she could use them to help get Angel back up on his feet and ready to get back in the fight.

We might even be treated to a little cat fight between Slayer and Higher Being over Angel's welfare.

e's a Slayer MONKEY?

I'm really heart broken that nobody seemed to notice the "My Name Is Earl" reference. I guess I'm the only one here who's unsophisticated enough to have ever watched the show.

For those not living here in the U S of A:

(From the first time that I saw that hair, Angel and Earl have been interchangeable to me, and the "trying to atone for past transgressions" theme just adds to it)

Angel and Earl: True Soulmates. Even the theme song works perfectly.

I got the my name is Earl reference 😀.

As for Angel. Cordy needs to come back but not straight away. Angel has to sort out stuff by himself for once. Take some responsibility. No higher powers or guardian angels showing him the way. If he wants to do good, then do it. If he wants to mope and go all woe is me, then he should just stake himself. Harsh, but I'm done with his " I'm all tortured, please love me " crap. If he needs to be led by the hand to some good, then he shouldn't bother. He's not responsible for his actions as Angelus, but Twilight was a stupid, selfish and disgusting choice he made, again due to him listening to someone else, instead of himself.
Faith should take his role as a street level hero. Doing good and saving people. Once he's in the right frame of mind to do some good, Cordy should come back and bring him to Faith. Faith and Angel are the most similar and I think they need each other to stay on track. Cordy needs to be there to stop them slipping into bad habits. Plus Faith and Cordy in a verbal smack-down, would be the best thing ever 😀. Connor should be by Angel's side too. He's been in darker places than most and is still fighting hard. So that's my hope. Angel's investigations = Angel, Faith, Connor and Cordy.

Yes he is. Just as Spike is responsible for his actions committed during his pre-souled state.

Angel can struggle with his so-called inner darkness as long as he wants. But as long as he has that curse, his struggles are not worth the effort. They only came about because of the curse. I would like to see him deal with such a struggle without a curse. If Spike can do it, so can he.
