Angel's Sword

I noticed something awhile back, and I was hoping someone here could help me with it. From the first time we saw Angel's office at the Hyperion, there was a red katana hanging just to the right of the door going back out into the lobby. When he moved to Wolfram & Hart, the same sword was clearly shown hanging behind his desk along with several other edged weapons. My question is: does anyone remember just where the sword came from or if it had any significance at all? I know that Angel never used anything but some sore of European broadsword, and as far as I can remember, neither did anyone else on the show.

Far as I can tell it was just a cool prop. Stage managers and designers clearly loved it... don't remember him or anyone using it. But I could be mistaken.. I can't think of a backstory to it.

i know the sword you are talking about, but have no answer as to a backstory for it.

i can tell you that the prop guys on buffy and angel love using the same props over and over.

is that the one that Cordy used in 'You're Welcome'? that's the only red blade that i remember, and, while i don't have a cool back story for it's origin, it might explain why Cordy picked that weapon rather than the one of the others on display. 'cause she recognized it and might have used it before.
