I get an email newletter from the WB. Today they sent me one bragging about their new fall lineup.

I thought you all might be interested in seeing the kind of programming the geniuses at Warner Brothers are going to be replacing Angel with.

Who will be America's next greatest reality TV singing sensation? The hunt is on at The WB and it ain't gonna be pretty. Watch as The WB unleashes The WB's Superstar USA, an outrageous new reality show, from the creator of High School Reunion and The Bachelor, that puts a wicked spin on the performance show genre. While most shows go out of their way to find the next truly talented performer in the country, The WB's Superstar USA is out to find the not so talented!!

In an elaborate hoax, auditions for The WB's Superstar USA were held in Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Orlando, and Philadelphia. The best singers were sent home while a gang of hopefuls, with more guts than talent, were chosen by The WB's Superstar USA's expert panelists, Tone-Loc, Vitamin C and television producer Briggs to remain on the show.

The seven-episode series, hosted by MTV vee-jay Brian McFayden, follows 12 uniquely gifted, and totally unsuspecting, hopefuls as they're whisked away to Hollywood where they receive superstar treatment - complete with makeovers, dance sessions with a top choreographer, and singing lessons with a respected voice coach. The WB's Superstar USA's conclusion, in which the last singer standing, receives the title of "The WB's Superstar USA," $100,000 and a recording contract, is played out in front of a live audience.

Created by executive producer Mike Fleiss, The WB's Superstar USA is co-executive produced by Mike Nichols and Jason Carbone, and produced by Next Entertainment in association with Telepictures Productions.

The above was just an example of the kind of thing the WB is sinking it's money into. The actual Angel replacements will be a sketch-comedy show, and a Drew Carey thing that will be like Whose Line is it Anyway, but with improvised cartoons in the background.

If you think those three are bad though, check out this one they brought in for Friday night Commando Nanny

The WB has gone stark, raving, bonkers.

I have been seeing the commercial for this swill. It looks 10x worse than it sounds. They will humiliate these (very untalented and not very attractive) people, and are saying that they will give a chance to those who would otherwise never get it. If some of the singing I hear on the commercials is real, they are tone deaf and have no harmony and will serve only to amuse those who see good things in the shame felt by others.
Also... I NEED to *****. Charmed (while once a decent show - now is just ripping off anything without creativity) is getting a 2 hour season finaly, Angel only gets a 1 hour series finaly. No justice.

Unfortunately reality tv is the "hot-in" thing right now. After tonight I will no longer watch the WB anymore. I have a feeling that the administrators of the WB will see what a big mistake they have made by jumping on the band wagon (so to speak). Superstar is cruel and humiliating and I wont be watching it. Reality tv will fade out and then what will they do for programming? Too bad for them.

I am just glad that Dark Shadows wasn't picked up.

Concerning Dark Shadows; I was reading the following at a Blog. It concerns a phone interview a writer with the New York Daily News did with Joss Whedon:

"Dark Shadows" was indeed being deliberately pitted against "Angel" by the WB as it was an in-house production that would cost them less. By the time the pilot for DS was greenlit, "Angel"'s cancellation had been decided. Bianculli has not seen the pilot but confirmed it was apparently awful, and plans to get a hold of it and write a review of it when he does, just to make a point of it.

Ugh....I HATE the WB's Superstar. It's so..........GAY!What there doing is so mean to these poor people who can NOT sing what-so-ever!It's pathetic!I mean, What a rip that that stupid ass (excuse my French) show is replacing my love, Angel! ::fire::

Am I wright or am I wright? ::grrr::

Wait, I've got a new reality show :: jack :: . You get people that like to think when they watch TV and they go around ruining other reality shows. It's the only one of these mindless shows that I would watch.

Levin has changed his mind about replacing Angel with 2 bad, comedies.

Now the replacement will be this new Everwoody kind of thing called "The Mountain" (something about a guy inheriting a ski resort, or something like that).

My interpretation: Levin is starting to sweat the idea of getting murdered in the ratings for Angel's time slot. He would be too easily revealed as incompetent. He's slipped in the one show of his new lineup least likely to get completely disgraced.

The Mountain

I truly hope that he is really regretting his stupid stupid decision. TVGuide implied in an article a few weeks ago that the guy who was doing Dark Shadow (John Wells The West Wing, ER) demanded that they take Angel off the air so there would only be one vampire show. They were so flattered that this mainstream guy wanted to do a show for them that they kissed his butt and did whatever he wanted. Stupid stupid stupid. Regret is a difficult emotion to shake. I hopw Levin has his for a long long time standing on the unemployment line!!!!

Especially when you consider all reports on the pilot for Dark Shadows (with the possible exception of a couple of Dark Shadows fans) inidicate the show sucked beyond the telling of it.

The story goes, the real reason WB backtracked on Dark Shadows was because the pilot was so awful even Jordan Levin could tell it sucked.
