What if some how (idk say Buffy and Angel decided to wait till she graduates to do it, or maybe if the initative was always in Sunnydale) anyway, Angelous is chipped instead of Spike? What do you think would have happened?

Huh. This is a really good question. I'd never even though of this before.

I think the problem with this though is that as soon as Buffy discovered Angelus wasn't a physical threat, she'd move to contain him right away and have Willow perform the soul restoration spell. Before that came to pass though, I think much like the beginning of his arc in S4, Angelus would have some incredibly interesting and intense conversations with every one of the Scoobies. Hell, he's probably smart enough to figure out a way around the soul restoration, especially if the Scoobies think they have him on the ropes.

I think it would have created an interesting dynamic. But I think Angelus still would have been able to go about destroying the world/Buffy's life without personally killing people.

I think there's a possibility Angelus would have ripped it out of his head, killing himself.

Or it pretty much would have been exactly the same as Spikes path, it's a common experiment in animals using negative feedback to change an animals behavior, Angelus could have been humanized by it.

I think it would have been way more interesting to see Angelus chipped, he would have struggled with it a lot more then Spike did.

Whoa, THAT is an interesting theory!! I tend to agree with you on this one. I think it would have made Angelus insane and he would have done anything, including harming himself, to get rid of the chip.

Yeah I don't think he could have taken it.
Consider the differences between Angel and Sike, and you get a pretty good idea of how it would have gone.

Spike, by his own admission and what we saw in flashbacks, was a simple, straightforward predator. He killed to feed, for the thrill of combat, or for the challenge of facing a challenging opponent, like a Slayer. Scheming, conniving, and manipulating others simply weren't what he cared for. The chip prevented him from killing humans, the thing that he existed to do, and he was at the point of suicide.

Angelus, on the other hand, while every bit the predator as Spike ever was, thrilled in torturing and terrorizing his victims, Dru being a prime example of that, and he would almost certainly have gotten almost as much pleasure and perverted thrill from manipulating others to do for him. Dru would have willingly turned as many minions as he would have ever needed, and hose minions could have done all of the actual torturing, terrifying, and killing, while Angelus got almost as much thrill just from watching as he ever did in actually doing it himself.

Whereas Spike pretty much learned to accept and live within the limits hat the chip imposed on him, and still got to enjoy a good scrap on occasion, Angelus would never have even considered such an existence. He would continue to work his evil schemes, much the way that the Master did in his captivity, and, chip or no chip, he would have remained such a threat that, eventually, he would have wound up being staked by Buffy.

I came to answer the question, but this is pretty much exactly what I wanted to say!

I totally agree. I don't think Angelus would have given up his evil ways.

I never thought of Spike as the one that loved the challenge of a fight, he liked the idea of impressing other, he wanted peoples' admiration and went after opponents that would get him that.

Spike was very much about scheming, conniving and manipulation he hired the likes of the Order of Taraka or assembling the Judge to do his dirty work because he already had Drusilla, there was no one to impress, nhe just wanted to get rid of Buffy. If he'd wanted the honor of a good fight he'd have kept trying to fight her. He also did lots of scheming and manipulation of the scoobies in Season 4.

I also don't think there's anyway Angelus would have let others do his dirty work. Spike was the one that had minion vampires in Season 2, Angelus was always on hand to deliver his torture with his own hands. I don't think he would have gotten satisfaction from someone else doing it. He would have needed to do it himself.

I'd like to think he could find a way to get the chip out cause they made Spike pretty pathetic/laughable in that season

I think he would have, after all Spike nearly got his out with the help of Harmony, and considering Angelus is ten times more intelligent than Spike, I'm sure he would have worked something out.

Ten times eh? Thats much? 😀

I think a chipped Angel wouldn't have faired very well. I think he'd either tried to get around it or just gone insane.

And for me at least even more lovable. Sorry. 🙂

Actually chipped Angelus would probably be like Angelus when him and Faith were going through all of good stuff Angel was doing, snarky and mad but powerless to do anything

I second the "tearing open his own head to get it out" theory. Angelus would simply not accept that he was chipped. He wouldn't play nice with the Scoobies, and he certainly wouldn't have moved in with Xander or Giles. I don't think Buffy would have taken pity on him either. I don't know why, but I feel like she would still view him as a threat. Probably because she would know that there is literally nothing he wouldn't do to get the thing out of his head. Magic, force, coercion... whatever he needed to do, he would have done it, and he wouldn't have wasted any time.

Your right, it would probably be greater than ten times, afterall Angelus is an evil genius, whilst spike is a tad special, with or without a soul 🙂

Since we never knew beyond vague hints exactly how the chip worked or how it was attached to the recipient's brain, it's all just guess and conjecture, but a simple x ray would show Angelus its location. After that, simply shooting himself in the head at that spot might solve the problem.

Of course, there's the obvious danger of permanent brain damage, but nothing that Angelus couldn't have handled.

Barring that, he would imply put the word out for Drusilla to come a'running. She would have taken care of all of Angelus' needs, with not even a thought of cheating with any chaos demon.

But I still say that Angelus could cause just as much mayhem and damage, chip or no chip. Almost certainly, he would have had to adopt a new strategy for harassing Buffy and the scoobies, but that wouldn't be very difficult for him. I do think that he would have found out more quickly than Spike did that he could still fight demons, but, rather that kill them, he would force them into his service, along with as many vampire minions as Dru could sire. With a force like that at his disposal, Angelus would have been a far greater menace than the Master and Wilkins combined. Merely taking over Sunnydale wouldn't have been on a large enough scale for him. He would probably set his sights on LA, with at least all of Southern California his ultimate goal, if not the entire state.

I think Angelus would have gotten someone to have it magically removed within a week. Then he'd find the people that put it in his head and spend the next month torturing them.

Interesting thought! 🙂

I tend to agree with those who think Angelus would have done anything to get the chip out of his head, he would have found the means to threaten Willow, or anyone to get it removed. He's so sneaky and manipulative, a real psychopath so I think the chip wouldn't have prevented him from doing harm to people! what makes him so evil and really different from Spike is that he has a knack for torturing people with words! He did so with Buffy, the way he tortured her with words or with weird gifts was somehow as mean and painful as trying to kill her friends!
Spike isn't that cruel!! he's just a killer! he doesn't even understand why Angelus keeps stalking Buffy instead of killing her...The chip is effective on a vampire like Spike, not on a cruel vampire who has a knack for torture like Angelus.
I love the fact that we can see their differences very well in season 2!

Spike sort of caught goodness- like it was contagious, haha- by being forced to hang around the Scoobies due to his neutered state. But I seriously don't see Angelus turning to them for help- Spike is just a vampire, but Angelus is full on twisted. It wouldn't have calmed him or made him inclined to good (even if just for the sake of violence which was Spike's initial incentive) and since, as many of you have said, he was great at manipulation and torturing people through words and gestures the chip certainly wouldn't have hindered his evilness.
But as far as getting the chip out- I'm not sure how he would threaten people to take it out or fix it, because he had no back-up. Unless he got hold of Drusilla and used her as the threat like Spike did with Harmony?
