I'm currently on 2:12 of Angel "Blood Money" and maybe its just me, but does anyone else notice a hint of the Irish (or is it Scottish?) accent that Angelus uses? Maybe I'm just imagining it, but there are certain scenes where I'm almost sure it is there. Perhaps a hint of the demon taking control? Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

Haha, no, it isn't just you. He totally has a bit of the old Irish brogue going on in the flashback scenes. Obviously, it's faded out since he's moved to the U.S., and even when Angelus returns he still talks like normal, but in all the "dark days" flashbacks he has an Irish accent, totally.
It's kind of silly, but why didn't Spike lose his accent? My guess would be that he hasn't spent the same amount of time in America as Angel, but still...

Maybe Angel tried to lose it as a a way of forgetting his past. I don't think its easier to lose an accent and Spike likely had no reason to try, but Angel was trying to escape his past.

Angel's lineage stems from Ireland, so it makes sense that you're hearing a bit of Irish accent in his scenes, especially flashbacks. 🙂

As I recall, David wasn't comfortable doing a faked Irish accent, whereas James had no problem with his. But as for Spike's accent, if you notice in "School Hard," his accent changes noticeably between the beginning and end of that single episode, beginning in something that sounds to me like Cockney, and changing to something more cultured at the end and from then on.
AS for why Spike wouldn't have lost his British accent over the century plus of his vampire existence, maybe he just spent most of that time either in places where the language was something else altogether, (other than his time in Sunnydale, the only time that we know for certain that he spent in the U S was when he came to New York to kill Nikki Wood) and whenever he actually did encounter his native language, it was spoken with more or less his original accent.
Or maybe William just had more national pride than Liam did, so he held on to "his" English rather than change.
