Angelus's portrayl in The Girl in Question

Unlike a lot of people, I like that episode a lot. It's really funny and kind of the ultimate Angel-Spike bromance episode, but at the same time, characters do kind of act a little out of character.
However, it's quite literally the only episode where Angelus doesn't act like a total sociopath, and seeing him get worked up by who, or what, ever The Immortal is was pretty funny.

Probably the only flashback that I found Angelus to be quite funny.
Whilst the episode was funny, the Buffy line felt a tad too much for me. I don't dislike the episode, I thought it was quite good (the original mission was quite funny).

I don't like it. I find from S3 on, there seemed to be a very noticeable David element (goofy almost) in characterisation of Angel and Angelus (Hockey is his favourite sport? Um... what? That makes sense in no reality. Ever), and I've always chalked those scenes from TGIQ up to that.

I found the episode humorous but it was at the expense of the characters in my opinion with only the arc involving Illyria and Wesley being of any considerable worth.
The problem is, to make the Immortal seem amazing and untouchable, they had to make Spike and Angel(us) absolute idiots and it just begs belief.
That said, the flashbacks do make at least some sense. I don't think Angelus really cares about Darla's fidelity seen as he doesn't seem to care much about fidelity in general. It seems more that he's annoyed because it's the Immortal, his arch nemesis who is having sex with his women, he didn't seem to comment on Darla's sexual exploit.

Almost certainly, Angelus' problem with the Immortal shagging Darla and Dru had far less to do with fidelity than it did with simple possessiveness. Darla and Dru belonged to Angelus. He didn't mind so much that Dru had "Willie" as a play thing, since he always knew that she was his whenever he wanted her, but Darla was HIS, and the Immortal not only used both women, they actually enjoyed being used. That was the part that really bothered him, plus the fact that, despite his reputation, the Immortal felt nothing but contempt for him.
As for Angelus' character in the episode, t's hard to make a monster appear funny without sacrificing some or all of its "monster-ness," and that's what happened to Angelus in "The Girl In Question." Angelus was a murderer, a sadist, a rapist, and probably much more. You simply can't laugh at something like that. In order to be funny, Angelus had to stop being himself and become laughable.
