I was just wondering what everyone thought about animal hunting and blood sports. Since fox hunting has been banned in the UK this week(yet reamins in Ireland). I personally think all this 'sport' is an absolute digrace apon everything every decent person should be against. Certain people like the idea of chgasing a fox,rappib,hare to exhaustion and then have a dog rip it to pieces. An agonising death. Also recently I have become sickened at the amount of animal cruelty going on in the world. It would be better for the whold world if the human race never exhisted. How can people treat their animals and pets like that is trull shocking and disturbig. I think that all animal cruelty cases should not end in a slap on the wrist and a fine but a hefty jail sentence at least 2 years. These people out there have to learn that animals are living creatures too just like us. :cat: :cat: :cat:
Is there anybody out there who is pro-hunting? If so tell us why you are pro-hunting. Or are you too ashamed to even show your face!! :furious:

I understand that in the country that they need to keep the number of foxes down because they ruin their farms. And sometimes city people tend to forget this as they don't see what happens. What I object to is the way they do it and the fact that they use it as a form of sport.

I hate hunting with hounds. I think it's f**king monstrous. It's a horrible, horrible "sport" and has no place in any of the most recent three centuries. The arguement that "Oooh, it's a country thing, you wouldn't understand" is, frankly, spheres. Every Farmer I know hates huntsmen - I have yet to meet one who wasn't shockingly obnoxious, but on a more rational level, having lots and lots and lots of horses and dogs running around your standard Irish muddy land is not the most attractive idea in the world. To argue that "Farmers would kill way more foxes if we didn't do it" is equally retarded because Farmers shoot 'em anyway.

But... I grew up on a farm, and to a farmer killing foxes and crows is an unpleasant but necessary part of life. I can accept that. Provided the animals are killed humanely, and I'll admit I've done it, I can live with it. Farmers work with animals all day; they do try to minimise suffering for all concerned. The biggest threat to livestock where I live is not foxes, it's pets. People let their dogs roam at night and they kill sheep. People always think their pet wouldn't, and they're always surprised to hear that Labradors are particularly nasty offenders. If a farmers animals are under threat, I sort of consider it self defence for him to put the dog, fox, crow, whatever down.

So, if you oppose hunting, do make sure you see hunting with hounds and shooting as different issues...

I don't live on a farm myself but a friend from school did and I saw what her dad did. Like you mentioned above Jill he didn't want to do it but he had to. He didn't use dogs he shot them as quickly as he could so they didn't suffer or had minimal suffering.

They never had the problems with pets as they were very far out, but I agree with what you are saying. An animal is an animal pet or not, it has an instinct. I've been mortified when my cat has brought me a bird or a mouse as a present.
 
Hunting has been banned in Ireland.After the terrbile tragedy that happened only a few days ago,I'm not suprised.A father&his young oy were out on the hunt.The boy was running off playing somwhere.The father raised his gun to shoot a fox in the distant,but he accidently ended up shooting his own child&killing him.Not only are the poor innocent foxes&other animals victims of man's thirst for blood&killing,but so too are little kids....even if it is accidental! 🙁

I'm sure that farmer set out that morning and said "Gosh, my thirst for blood and killing is strong today, I think I'll go out hunting." The fact is, until we can find a way to either grow gigantic cubes of mutton or let sheep levitate, both ideas I find bizarrely appealling, killing local predators is necessary to farming. If you're a vegan on the other hand, by all means, protest away. Gotta respect that.

Hunting ban? Was I asleep that year? There's currently a proposal to ban hound hunting, but not hunting with guns...
 
Thing thing with hunting foxes is that they dont breed when there isn''t any food around and so naturally they control their own numbers. I'll admit in certain areas its different. And I don't believe in killing animals either humanely or brutely. But if it has to be done I wont be the one to do it and you'll hear about it.
I live in the country side and my dad and his family lived on a farm and they never had problems with foxes. Jill I totally agree anyone who hunts foxes etc. for fun should have a buch of dogs chase and maul them. Then we'll see if they're so eager to still hunt!!!
Certain Hunting has been banned in Ireland but most of it still continues in illegal circles and because no one will enforce it. And fox hunting has never been banned in ireland
 
I'm kinda on the borderline. I think that hunting is wrong and cruel to the animals, but it's something that needs to be done. It's like school, I hate it, but it's something that has to be done.
 
Hunting does not = sport. If you hunt to feed your family, OK. If you hunt because you just enjoy killing things, you are only a few steps away from becoming a killer of humans.
 
Im prohunting. Anyone who suggest that hunting is something you should be ashamed of perhaps should take a look at oh say.....history in general Or The population of various hunted species as compared to available food for said species. It's completely ludicrous to make such statements. I feel like shooting a rabbit now and cooking some stew. mmmmm thumper.

Hmm my take:

We have fox hunting here, but it's not with a real fox, it's with fox scent. It's only for sport. Horses and riders follow hounds who follow a pre-laid trail of fox scent.

Now as for other hunting..pheasant, dear, etc...I have a few friends and one of my in-laws who use dogs for that purpose. 3 of them have German Short-Hair Pointers, my Father-in-law has a lab, and my uncle used to hunt with a pair of Dalmatians (which is funny because I own a 12-year old dalmatian now).

I've seen bear and deer in my friend's boathouse right in the middle of the city and find it appaling. I've gone riding in the fall in the woods and have had to suit up in bright orange sweaters to avoid being mistaken for a dear due to the amount of hunters in our area.

For me personally, I don't think hunting for sport is anything to be proud of.
 
Sorry guys, don't really have much time to post! I am totally against hunting for sport! But let me leave you with a quote, (by who, I have no idea!)

But seriously no they don't call it murder. Also animals are subspecies to man.
 
We're having a related issue here in The City Fun Forgot. We have a protected bog area that has had some development encroach on it. The bog can support 8 to 10 deer, according to the city University's ecology department, and that has been seconded by Environment Canada. There are now at least 48 deer living in the bog, and residents of the area are having deer that have starved to death show up in their backyards. A cull is called for, since the dead deer are a health hazard, and the sheer number of them are a danger to traffic on surrounding roads...there have been 7 collisions with deer this summer. Relocation is impractical, since the deer population in the entire area has spiralled up due to extermination of predator species, and a reduction of hunting licences issued (man is the top predator of deer in the area, and has been for over 500 years). So, do we let the deer starve, or do we send in the hunters? Is it more humane to let them starve, or shoot them? They're gonna die either way.

That ain't true, in my book.
First of all, there are like hundreds of animals that could rip a human into thousand little pieces just using their teeth. We fear these animals and hunt them down, make funny little rugs to put infront of the fireplace out of their skin and finally put their heads up on the wall, for what? To prove that we are the superior species. Hey, we can do whatever we want to with them. But not without our weapons. Before we invented fireguns I'd betya people were more scared of big evil animals than we are now.

I'm not so fond of hunting, being a vegan and all. But I do understand and respect some of the opinions here about foxes and farmers and etc. The part of Sweden where I live (waay up north) there's a lot of hunting going on to prevent some species taking over and eating up everybody and stuff. And I understand that it needs to be done, but I just wish it didn't mean so much killing. It just breaks my heart.
I rather put my trust in mother nature (sounds corny, I know 😀), mother nature can always fix things! But not always as we wish she did.
 
Aniamls are sub-species to man?? Not to sound disrespectful,but come on.Do animals torture each other for fun,do they kill they're own kind simply for the pleasure of it.Do they ruin this world by polluting it....NO.What right does man have to hunt down creatures that have more right to live than they do,for the simple fact that it is man that ruins the world.....then there's the whole thing with animals being here first.It's the idea that man is greater than all other species that leads to humans plundering&destroying.
Now on a lighter note...aren't foxes cute 🙂
 
Here's my POV; Fight on equal terms. Either the hunters run nude through the woods and try to kill the animals with their teeth and nails, or give the animals weapons, teach them how to use them and let them defend themselves.


What pisses me of is that they hunt bears and wolves with HELICOPTERS!?!! I'm all for mounting laser-tracking surface-to-air missile packs on the poor animals.
