Inspired by the Pokémon thread.
A lot of us are from the 'Anime generation', meaning, Anime became cool in Western countries during our childhood/teens.
We already established we all remember and love Pokémon, but what other Animes did you watch (or do you still watch?) We might even find some new anime worth watching 😀

My first love, going back to early elementary school (and as I understood it was the popularity of this show that paved the way for a lot of other ANime) was Sailor Moon:
sailor-moon.jpg

I still watch this on occasion, and back in the 90's, most girls from my school were obsessed with this 😛 Like many anime, it wasn't actually that suitable for our age group, which is why it was censored in many Western countries, especially hard in English. Like, did you know that Sailor Uranus and Mercury were a lesbian couple in the original Japanese version? In English they were turned into cousins, to make it more 'child friendly'.

Another Anime I loved, though I was older (about 12/13) when I watched that, was Ranma 1/2:
ranma09.jpg

This one is about people that have fallen into magical water in China and now turn into animals when touched by cold water. The main guy, Ranma, actually doesn't turn into an animal, but into a girl 😀 It's a very funny show...Ranma's father sort of engaged him to a lot of girls, and all the guys seem to like Ranma when he is a girl and chase her. Really, just trust me when I say this was a very very funny show.
Of course they had to cancel it in Germany midway through the show...still not over that.

Detective Conan (Case Closed (?) in English):

Also a favourite of mine back in the case. A high school student who is sort of a hobby detective is investigating a group of criminals (later always referred to as The Men in Black). They poison him, but instead of killing him, the poison turns him into a child. As a coverup to protect them from discovering he's still alive, he now pretends to be a regular 7-year-old and moves in with his high school sweetheart and her father who is an actual detective (though a very bad one). The only one aware of his real identity is a professor who used to be his neighbour, and now equips him with all sorts of cool technology to help him solve cases.
This one might actually still be running, and has A LOT of episodes. I haven't been following it lately, but it actually gets more intersting with time, as more people discover his identity, and the Black Organisation moves into focus of the show.

I think all those 3 are still pretty watchable even as an adult. You might have to ignore some silly stuff (especially with Sailor Moon), but in general they are all very amusing and have interesting storylines.

SAILOR MOOOOOOOOON!!!!!

God I loved that anime! I also really loved The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's about a teenage girl in hs i think that always gets herself into trouble lol

You're seriously making me want to start watching anime again!

Other anime movies I loved were KiKi's Delivery Service, Castles In the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle

I also liked and still like Chobits

And Nana

and Paradise Kiss, from Ai Yazawa (great mangaka!)
paradise-kiss-2.jpg

Card Captor Sakura and Chobits are both from CLAMP, it's more for a young audience but explores serious themes such as homosexuality, different kind of love, death, friendship...I'm happy to have grown with such anime!

Nana (that I love in anime, manga, and movie) and Paradise Kiss are more adult and talk more about independance (weither you chose to be on your own or were left alone because your mum abandonned you and your grandma died when you were 16), unwanted pregnancy, responsabilities, drugs, deaths, running away...

AACTUALLY, it was Sailor Uranus and Neptune that were the couple 😉 /smart aleck

So, yeah, I, too watched a lot of Sailor Moon (though I kind of stopped before the last season and I still want to watch it), as well as the first two Digimon series. I started watching the third and fifth when they first aired here, but due to them being aired at "kiddie" times, I missed most of them.

I'm also a HUGE fan of One Piece, which I started watching at ... I don't know, 13, 14? and just can't let go. That it's still nowhere near finished, helps too.

I also really liked Revolutionary Girl Utena, which could be really random at times.

OH, and Nadia - Secret of Blue Water was great, too.

God, last friday, we were taking pictures with friends and one of them absolutely wanted to do the kamehamea thing, and we ended up making a lot of pictures Dragon-ball like and Buffy-inspired. It was so much fun :D

Totally! I used to ship Bulma and Vegeta :D (or whatever they're called in English)
I loved Sailor Moon!!! And Digimon!

I also was super big on Yu-Gi-Oh I collected the cards and played the game I was even in a club lol. I kicked all the boys butts at the game and they hated me for it.

I looooved Dragon Ball Z Spikefan31! My favorite video games were the DBZ ones.

Among all of those, I've watched Ranma 1/2 and Conan and Nadia. I personally, like the older animes from the World Masterpiece Theater produced by Nippon Animation.

Favorites would be: Princess Sarah, Future Boy Conan, Trapp Family Story, Daddy Long Legs and Little Women.

I used to watch Pokemon, Digimon and Sakura all the time when I was younger, but I sort of grew out of them eventually. Nowadays the only Anime I watch is Hellsing.

My friend loves anime, she's obsessed with it and she watches sailor moon alot. Personally, I don't watch or read anime so I can't say I'm a fan of it.

OMG I Loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Anime!

I'm currently re-watching Pokemon XD

I loved Sailormoon too! It was iconic! As well as Saint Seiya and Ruroni Kenshin!!

Nowadays I love the Anime Bleach!!

Kenshin! *squeeeee*...well actually Sanosuke *squeeeee*
Anime and manga's okay; some of it's meh, but some is pretty great.

Unlike most people I didn't start watching, or reading, until I was a teenager. I like Last Exile, Miyazaki movies like Castle in the Sky, Howl's Moving Castle etc, and I love Cowboy Bebop. When I get the time I'm thinking about checking out Fullmetal Alchemist or One Piece because people say they're pretty good.

Sailor Moon, Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Yu-Gi-Oh were my favourites from childhood. 😀

Fruits Basket, anyone?

Yes, the first two seasons of Digimon!! How infuritating was the third??! I get mad just typing this ... ugh. I watched Pokemon of course and some Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. I really like the Sailor Moon story, it's very compelling to me.

After you get over the shock, the third and fifth Digimon seasons really aren't that bad (at least in German, I have heard that the English/American(?) dub wasn't all that great), they have some pretty interesting storylines. Having said that, I still missed the original characters like woah.

Sailor Moon, Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura and Yu-Gi-Oh were my favourites from childhood. 😀

Fruits Basket, anyone?

Oh, I loved the Fruits Basket manga, I bawled my eyes out in the end. Not much a fan of the anime version of it though :/

i love Harlock, Rose of Versailles, cat's eyes, Tom Sawyer, and more recently Hellsing, Trinity blood, witch hunter robin, read or die, Utena...

I just rewatched Card Captor Sakura and it's baaad, because it makes me want to have someone who loves me like Shaolan loves Sakura, it was just soooo cute, kinda Oz-like but better 😀
Isn't he the cutest cupcake ever when he looks at her? *melts*

Yeah, I just fell in love with a 12 years old fictionnal character :tongue3:

I loved Pokemon as a child, and Dragonball Z as a young teenager. I watched little bits of Yugioh and Digimon, not so much though. These days I enjoy the abridged videos of both YGO and DBZ, don't know if anyone else has seen them, though...

These days, I've watched a fair few anime films- Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbour Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Akira, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I've purchased Millenium Actress and Jin-Roh to watch through soon ^_^

I've watched both series and the OVA of Higurashi no naku koro ni, Umineko no naku koro ni, all 3 series of Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl), Elfen Lied and Excel Saga.

Currently trying to work my way through Moryou no Hako, Ghost Hound and Azumanga Daioh. Oh, and High School of the Dead. Having trouble getting hold of all the episodes, though...

So, yeah, I like anime, I'm currently trying to broaden the range of the anime I've watched ^^ Current favourite series is definitely Higurashi...
