Anne .. Question?

In the episode Anne... Buffy goes down to that dimension where one day is like 100 years. She was down there for a while, why didnt she age? :S It doesnt really make sense ... She should have aged at least aged a bit? Does anyone agree with me?

One day on earth was a lot of years down there. You remember how much Anne's boyfriend had aged? And he wasn't gone long in "normal" time. Anne didn't age, he did. So being a few days (or how long Buffy was gone) in the dimension wouldn't be more than a couple of hours up on earth, if even that.


edit: I might have just been making things worse. I shouldn't post today. 😛 The point it that she wasn't gone long no matter what time we talk about so no she shouldn't have aged.
 
I agree with kinslayer she wasn't there for long.

She could have been there a week.... She would only be a week older. Time moved slower compared to standard earth. So as she's there, effectively the normal world is slowed down.

So from an outsider, say Xander, she would see Buffy moving very quickly... but Buffy would see Xander moving very slowly. When Buffy escapes from the dimension, her body is a day or so older than it should be because only a few minutes have passed on earth.

For the interesting bit... since we know 1 day is like a hundred years. The day (rounding up) of her in hell would actually be around a 100 years. Being generous and saying it was only around 12 hours (they did both get knocked out) would still result in 50 years! A wee bit longer than the time she supposedly left home!

No, you would continue to age regularly and experience time as normal. Your friends in the real world would age faster with every moment you spent in the 'slower universe'.

Only to an outsider does time move slower, but never still or reversed. A wormhole is the only exception

100 years = 1 day

buffy was down for lets say an hour

100 years = 24 hours

36500 days = 24 hours

876000 hours = 24 hours

so that's 36500 hours = 1 hour

so you then divide that by how long she was down there so she was there for 1 hour so in real time she would have been there for 1/36500 hours which translates into just over 2 seconds or two hours i'm not sure, it's early and i wanna go to bed.

Then it should be like this.

36500 hours = 60 minutes

36500 hours = 3600 seconds

So you can get the answer in seconds by doing like this. Instead of 1/36500 you get 3600/36500 = 0,0986301...

You've got the numbers right, just got the conclusion backwards. She wasn't there for 1/36500th of an hour, she was there for an hour...

100 years (in hell) is only like a day on earth. (Hence why Ricky aged 100 years in a day)

If Buffy is in hell for only an hour, it means that 36,500 have passed on earth. Meaning, she will still only be an hour older, but all her friends would be just over 4 years older. So she was there for an hour in her own time, but 4 years have passed.

Considering 1 hour is extremely conservative considering Buffy got knocked out, put in a cage, etc etc. So end result is...continuity error.

I must be missing something.

If 100 years in hell is 1 day on earth why would it have passed 4 years on earth if Buffy was gone less than 100 years? Since there's quite a difference between 100 years and 1 hour and 1 day and 4 years. It always passes less time on earth right?
 
Sorry, yea I fliped that one while working out how old Buffy gets in the space of an hour on earth. My bad.

Your right, from someone (say Xander) as an outside observer. He would see Buffy jump into the hell dimension and then pop straight out again all sweaty after a hard days work! lol.

Same thing happened when Angel spoke to the Oracles in their dimension and Doyle said from his perspective Angel popped out just as soon as he went in.
 
Ya, some people seem to have the math backward. Being gone 100 years is like 1 day. So being gone a couple hours would be only like being gone for seconds. Like someone else said, even if she were there for a week, it would be very, very little time here indeed. And she wasn't gone anywhere near that.

BTW, I loved this ep. I thought it was one of the strongest of the season premiers (other than s6 two parter the Bargaining, which was phenominal).
 
All this math! Arghh!! I look at it like this and it pleases my psyche: If we were there for say fifty years, time would continue from our point of view the same. However, if and hopefully when we got out, it would be like we never left. There's a factor in there you have to leave out for it to make sense and I'm too tired to think of it right now. 😀
