I am very pleased to announce the Buffy-Boards House Cup Debating Competition is ON!
So, the way this is going to work:
This will be a house versus house competition. There will be two initial rounds, for two houses to face off against each other. The winner of each round will progress to the final to debate it out to be crowned the winner!
Each house has a nominated team captain and co-captain who will be the only members allowed to post in the main board threads. There is also a co-captain standing by to post if and when it becomes necessary e.g. if too much time has elapsed since the captain has posted. The team captains are as follows:
Vahla Ha'nesh: Willow-Tree
Raiden: Joan the Vampire Slayer
Merrick:Lyri
Drogyn: Wesley
Round one will be VH vs Drogyn and the topic is as follows:
Dollhouse was too Echo-centric, resulting in its cancellation.
VH you will be FOR and Drogyn AGAINST this statement.
Round two is Raiden vs Merrick with the topic of:
Tara was more important than Oz to Willow's journey.
Merrick you will FOR and Raiden you will be AGAINST this statement.
The final topic, should you reach the final will be:
The Scoobies were a more effective and efficient team than Angel Investigations.
Who will be FOR and AGAINST will be announced when the time comes.
Threads will be opened in each house by your prefects in which all members from each dorm can offer ideas and points to help your captain put their arguments together. These will be open for ONE DAY before the main board threads are open. Once they have been opened the captains can make their opening statements - these will be expected on Monday.
After the opening statements there will be a period of two days for the captains to making their arguing statements. There will only be one chance to destabilise your opposition's argument so make it count!
The closing statements will be expected to appear within two days of the arguments being posted.
Once both teams have posted their closing statements the appointed judges will decide on the winner. The judging criteria is as follows:
Each of these will be given a mark out of ten and then the final score will be totted up at the end. Please bear in mind, that even though it is not being judged on specifically, it goes without saying that belittling or attacking the other team or making snide/rude comments will not earn you any extra points.
If any one has any questions then please PM your House Prefect.
