Annoying!!!

I pretty much agree with what Blondie Bear said. I couldn't stand her whining in seasons 5 and 6, but she was pretty good when season 7 rolled around. She finally started growing up and contributing to the group. And I loved her reaction to Giles' flash cards!

Of course, in season 8, Dawn is all annoying again...but at least her complaints are justified. I think I'd be pretty pissy if I started turning into various mystical creatures.

I agree with season 5 dawn. little-miss-whiny-pants😛 but after season 5, I loved Dawn!

I loved Dawn when she came in in season 5. Although thats probably cause she's the same age as me in season 5 and I can relate to her more. I mean, if I found out I was a key, my reaction would probably be the same as hers.

QFT. That's exactly what I'm saying.
^^ True, she was 14 and she's really been through a lot. Discovering she was the key, hiding from Glory and then her mum's death.. Nothing weird she was freakin out sometimes.

Dawn was whiny, yes. I can't deny that but I think it was necessary for her character although it was easier when you were watching the show once a week, it didn't seem as bad. When you watch the episodes one after the other without breaks it does get irritating. Saying that I grew to like her a lot in season 7 and now when I look back it's not so bad as I first thought.

What would annoy me more would be if the actor didn't fit the role. Whiny and the wrong actor? Aagh! Sure Dawn was annoying for a while but I felt like she really belonged in that group of actors which is credit to Michelle Trachtenberg.

Hm . . . like VK and Connor? Just sayin'.
I really don't think Dawn was so whiny that many says.
She has some moments in s5 and s6, I admit that. But it's not that bad.

If you only count the times when I really don't understand whats her problem is, it's even less.
I feel that this whole "Dawn is so whiny" has becoming a bit exaggerated.

QFT. You took the words right out of my mouth.
The first time round Dawn frustrated me a lot in season 5- but not so much season 6 and 7 as I think it was a mix of she was whining less, when she did whine it was justified and I'd grown accustomed to the character. But the second time round I loved Dawn even in season 5 and don't find her annoying at all; she's one of my favorite characters. I actually kinda find it cute how clutzy she is and her childish defence of "We can't all be born with superhuman reflexes you know" makes me giggle.

And as for her 'whining', the only real time she whines is when everyone is acting weird around her, when she finds out she technically doesn't exist, when her Mom dies, when she thinks Buffy can't look at her after their Mom dies...all of which I think are pretty reasonable circumstances to whine.

I mean when she walks into the room after cutting her arms in Blood Ties- she's so torn apart and distraught, it's really upsetting. And you just feel for her so much. Or at least I do anyway....

Justified, eh? Even when she would always take Buffy's emotional pain and make it all about her? "Normal Again" is one example that comes to mind.

Exactly. I think it's partly because she's a little bubble of realism sat on the Hellmouth. All the other characters have been forced to be hyper-mature, and Dawn acts like a 15 year old girl. It's bound to be a little jarring at first. Which, fittingly considering her entrance, was the intended effect.

Dawn wasn't THAT annoying, in my opinion. Well there were worse characters in the Buffyverse *coughConnorcough*
And sure, she whined a lot, but what do you expect, that's what being a teenager is about. I'm pretty sure that at some point in my life I was like that.

I hate how people act like this (cookie of spike). Do you not get it? That's her character. Joss meant for her to be whiny. She wasn't being annoying to us, she was just a girl that was confused. (she was a friggin key for god's sake).

^ It doesn't matter that she was supposed to be whiny. We know that, it 's part of her character. It's who she is. We're just reacting to the fact that she IS whiny. It's annoying! you should be HAPPY we're saying these things, because it means everyone in the show did their job. Not scolding us for having the proper reaction.

^ It's ok saying things like that, but when people say, "SHE IS SO ANNOYING!!!! GET HER OFF THIS SHOW, SHE RUIND THE WHOLE THING!!!" it gets on my nerves.

The Ferg, I'm really sorry to say this, but you are acting REALLY stubborn. You're making it sound like YOUR opinion is the LAW. That's not the case. Just because YOU find it annoying that people EXPRESS THEIR OPINIONS does NOT mean you have the right to jump down their throats. You have your opinion, great! That's wonderful. If you're allowed to have an opinion and express it, so does everyone else. Kapiche? (Spelling, Blondie? Did I spell it right?)

*clears throat*

Yes, Dawn was whiny. But I love her anyway. 😀

Lets see if it sinks in this time. One can hope. Even though I think it´s coming off "worse" than he intends.

Capiche. And holy crap, youngun. Way to express your opinion.
I think what The Ferg is saying, I may be wrong here, that he doesn't mind people finding her annoying or not liking the character- I mean that is your opinion and your entitled to it- but when people say 'I hate her Get her off the show' it annoys him because whether you like the character in question or not, you should be able to accept that they are integral to the show and shouldn't be gotten rid of just because your house isn't on fire with get on-iness.

I'm just guessing that's what being said here. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong Ferg!

I love you.
but when people say 'I hate her Get her off the show

I know it´s not your words, but has anybody even said this? I know I can be blind.

Is Dawns whining annoying? Yes. But I don´t mind it that much.
Did I want her off the show? Never
Is MT too old for how the part was written? Definitely
Did she still do a good job? Yes

And to me it seems like that most people find her less annoying then they rewatch the episodes. And I have not trouble understanding that teenagers gets even more annoyed of Dawns whining. I know I would have at that age.

I thought Dawn, in s5 anyway, was one of the best characters. She didnt whine that much, and when she did it was usually on purpose for the story, it made her more interesting and real than if she was all nice and non whiny. When you look at what all the Dawn episodes were about, she usually had good reason to be whining.
So i like s5 Dawn but 'the key' was her only good storyline in all the time she was in it/

I can only speak for season 5 but to tell you the truth, I'd be handeling it alot worse than whinning.

I don't feel so much as AW POOR DAWN 😉 , as oh, poor Dawn...In no paticular order....

1.) She's a typical teenager but with a super sister. That has got to be an inferiority complex waiting to happen. She has a crush on Xander who is clearly taken, and on Spike, who has the hots for her previously mentioned supersister. I think she feels that among all these important lucky older people the only way she can get noticed is by whining.

2.) Her Mom gets sick, then gets the all clear, and then dies

3.) She discovers to her horror she is the embodyment of mystical energy that is a key for Glory, and she feels like she might not be real at all, so much as a hiding space. (that cutting scene really made me feel for her.)

4.) Buffy has this bad habbit of getting killed and coming back, but when Dawn tried to bring her Mom back..... well that episode had the potential to get very disturbing. She has to worry about Buffy. It would be like your only parent being away fighting a war, but your war is in the town you live in....and oh yeah, monsters are very real and wish to have you. I would be absolutely raving nuts

You can really tell MT was a big Buffy fan, she did an excellent job at playing a part that I think was not ment to be 'the annoying character', so much as an after effect for her characters unique circumstances.

It's not much unlike the identity crisis some people go through, but with hellmouth multiplication!
