Another Newbie!

Just checking in to say hi, been a huge Buffy and Angel fan for years. Still remember the first time I watched the show, was on BBC2 in the late 90s, a couple of days before New Years Eve. I was home alone with not much to do, was flicking aimlessly through the channels and stumbled across the pilot episode. The rest, they say, is history!
If I'm honest I first enjoyed the show because I liked all the girls in it! (I was a teenager, what can I say!) As I got into it I began to admire the humour and the writing of the show. I particular liked how the writers weren't afraid to take risks and really challenge the audience. I also think it was one of the first shows to have big, sweeping character arcs that spread across more than one season, which was genuinely ground-breaking.
Favourite episodes are probably similar to most: 'Passion', 'The Body,' 'OMWF,' 'Conversations With Dead People.' Favourite seasons are 2 and 3, felt this was when the show really hit its stride. Favourite characters Spike, Faith, Giles and I also loved D'Hoffryn, hence the avatar. His line about slaughtering an Abercrombie and Finch catalogue in 'Selfless' is possibly my all time favourite line in the show!

I too first saw Buffy on BBC 2 when it premiered with the first two episodes smooshed together.
The highschool seasons that you mentioned are pretty popular, so you're not alone there. Also Spike, Faith and Giles tend to be big favourites (I think almost every character has a fanbase around here). D'Hoffryn often gets overlooked but he is a nice mix of humour with an real undercurrent of sinister!

As for watching the show because of all the pretty girls, well I completely understand! There's lots of character oggling that goes on around these parts, both of the guys on the show and the girls- so you're in good company. 😀

Nice to hear your story. I don't know a lot of people that started watching Buffy when it was airing in the 90's. I came into it in 2001. D'Hoffryn is great! He's awesome in 'Selfless'. I also like the line about slaughtering an Abecrombie and Finch catalog. And I love it when he calls Buffy "Lady hacksaway". Plus his soft spot for Willow or something. He can be funny but dark and threatening, like when he just killed Halfrek.

Don't worry you're not the only one. I started watching in s3 because of Faith and then continued because I had a huge crush on Spike at the time. lol. Anyways, hope you enjoy the board!

D'Hoffryn has some memorable lines and scenes, I agree. I forget about him a lot but he is a really interesting secondary character when I really think about it. Cool beans.
