Another Ponder from "The Wish"

I've always believed that Willow was bisexual. There is no way that her feelings for Xander, and more importantly Oz, were not real, anymore than you can deny her feelings for Tara.

How she felt about Xander could "possibly" be explained away as a schoolgirl crush before she had been able to discover her true sexual leanings but with Oz there was real love, lust and passion there, far too much to pretend that she wasn't sexually attracted to men as well as women.

Nope, both Willow and her vamp alternate were definately bisexual but as for Xander or anyone else in the Buffyverse, who knows? To me, what is said or thought is irrelevant, it's actions that prove your sexuality. I can look at another guy and admit he is handsome or has a decent body but that doesn't make me bisexual, it makes me honest! 🙂

Until we see Xander end up in the arms of Andrew i think it's safe to assume he is straight with a pronounced feminine side! 😉
 
honestly, i'll second that by simply (skipping my thoughts on slash for the sake of world peace) saying - leave the guy be. he's not gay until he's proven gay just like a gay character is not straight until he's proven straight regardless of how much certain fans want it to be otherwise. end of story here.
 
I think the books I read that essay in was either:

Seven Seasons of Buffy or Reading the Vampire Slayer. Can't remember which one. I got them both off of Amazon.com.

Xander definitely has bisexual tendencies, whether or not he'll ever act on them, we'll never know. 🙂
 
For me it's pretty simple. What Joss says is fact, otherwise it's speculation.

Doesn't matter how many opinions or essays i read on what a person believes to be true about Xander's sexuality, or any other topic to be honest, if it isn't on the shows or straight from the Whedon's mouth then it's not important.
 
and i'll second that too. there is such thing as cannon on the slayerverse (thanks god) and joss takes it very seriously. what is approved *by him*, that counts as cannon and on that you can rely on. but that's it and that's all. not even all the novels are considered cannon and you're relying on an essay?
 
The essay presented facts as they were shown in the actual Buffy & Angel episodes. It's just basically someone's interpretation of the actual events of the course of the show. There are many things up for interpretation in the shows, it's one of main things we discuss on here. No one is taking it for canon, but it's just another way of looking at things that people are open to.
 
i get that, you're right - that's one of the things i love so much about btvs - its layers, its depth, the way you can analyze everything a hundred times and there'll still be something to analyze.
but i think that doubting a character's sexuality is a little too big to take upon as long as it's not cannon, which is why i'm so openly anti-slash.
the essay you're talking about, i'm sorry to say (and no i haven't read it), as long as it's not approved by joss who is very careful with what he approves to be cannon, it's nothing more than a person's opinion, it's as good as a post on this board.
 
That's all essays are anyway - a person's opinion or view on something....same thing with the posts...both are based on facts for the most part. There's always room for speculation, especially with issues where there are holes in the storylines and/or character development.
 
Don't get me wrong here Cordelia, i love to speculate on the slayerverse and it's characters and also read other peoples opinions on the subject.

The only problem i have is when one persons opinion, say for example in an essay written by a fan, is taken as factual information with regard to the character in question. In this specific case you can't use one fans speculation to prove a point about Xander's sexuality because all it is is speculation.

The only proof you can give in a subject such as this is what is seen on screen or said by the creator of the character himself. It's fine to then give your own personal view on what that means but to use somebody elses personal opinions as evidence only confuses the facts.

I'm a big fan of Kieth Topping's Slayer and Hollywood Vampire episode guides and love to read his opinions but i wouldn't use anything i read in those books to offer evidence on Xander's sexuality as, again, that would be second hand opinion.

It's just easier to keep the speculation limited to what you think of the canon, rather than what you think of what somebody else thinks of the canon, y'know?
