Simple as ABD... What don't you like about Angel?

He's too broody

As I have said many times before, Angel makes decisions that affect other characters' lives, even going so far as to have the very fabric of time itself altered, whenever he decides that it is "for their own good." He does that without either permission of or consultation with the affected party, setting himself up as the ultimate authority on how things SHOULD be done.

i dont like the way he commands his collegues to do something, even when they are obviously on board and are there to back him up. He can be a little to authoritarian and at times, disrespectful if anyone dares to ask him a question when he needs something done. The whole "I'm-not-asking-I'm telling you to do this now" mentality.

But P.S....Im not really "anti-angel" ...nobody's perfect & I think Angel has alot of great qualities.... I just prefer Spike!

he could get as authoratative with me as he likes.... ;)
I just don't like him, I don't know why cos DB is a good actor and everything and he's not un-handsome. It's just something in the way he talks, the way he walks. Maybe it's what EveryNightISaveU said. Dunno. Though I also really, really agree with White Avenger, although I never though about that before 😉

Also, it really was about time someone started this thread. The anti-Spike one's getting way too busy. I wasw actually thinking about it myself ^^

Just to say that I like the character, I really love Angel I want to comfort him in his broodyness =P

But like I rep, I hate when he makes decisions for the other characters... There´s nothing more annoying then someone preteding to save everybody from pain, and sure that HIS option is the best one for everybody ¬¬

I can foremost note that all so far posted favorite includes Spike 😉

Now that i have covered that tidbit, overall i kinda like Angel. Unlike previous poster i prefer him to Spike actually, altough its quite close as i like them both.

He does however, get bit too carried away with events. First with Darla and then concerning Connor, third was with Black Thorn as the simplest examples. When he gets carried away so do speak he kinda separates himself from others. First time he fired all, second time he did not mention them the mind altering as well as accepting offer and third part he set plans in motion in advance to informing others.

He's usually very dry. He doesn't have much of sense of humor, he doesn't have fun. Except when he's Angelus. On Buffy when he's not Angelus, I find him kinda boring.

He's like the opposite of Buffy. She's got a inferiority complex about her superiority complex. He's got a superiority complex about his inferiority complex. It all gets very complexy. Basically, he's so guilty about what he did as Angelus, he majorly overcompensates when doing things "for the greater good". For all his attempts, he is not human, and he knows it. That distances him from the rest, and he doesn't really respect them as much as he should.

However, I do have to make it clear that although I think a lot of the choices he made were reprehensible, I do like him as a construct. He's one of the more interesting characters in the verse.

AngAl - I whole heartedly approve of that comment

I think that Willow and Faith have Superiority complexes about their Inferiority complexes too.
I hate how he looks.
I mean he is so sexy and makes me want to do naughty things with him which is rude.
The way his toned body looks hot after he has been in the shower or the way his smile is so cute.

Mostly though, I hate the thought of running my pinky finger along the inside of his sturdy and strong legs then up his torso finally going over his shoulder and following the curvature of his spine until I reach the bottom of his back.

So, would that be AngAl? You should add that to your list.

please I nearly peed just a tiny bit then > you are a BAAAAAD person, making an unsuspecting me laugh like that!
He doesn't dance enough (one of the things I actually LIKE about him, is his crappy dancing)

Like several posters have already said, I dislike Angel's habit of making extreme, life and time altering decisions for other people without their knowledge or consent. This would not be so bad in and of itself if he ever once learned from the dire consequences that sometimes arise as a result of this character flaw, but he never does. I don't think it is any small coincidence that the supporting characters on Angel end up far more dead and damaged than do the supporting characters on Buffy. Angel is a darker show at least in part because the title character is a darker character with a very different (and destructive) leadership style.

I also dislike Angel's hypocrisy. He is very harsh in his dealings with and judgments on other characters. When they fall out of line in some way, he punishes them. He tried to kill Wes and kicked him out of the group. He kicked Connor and Cordy out during an apocalypse. When he does reprehensible things, however (like impregnating Darla or letting the vamps eat the lawyers), the gang is expected to support him (and they do). At his most reprehensible, he completely disassociates, turning those actions into the actions of an entirely different person. He broods and expresses guilt, yes, but he expects everyone else to forgive him for Angelus' actions while offering the supporting characters no such leeway.

Don't get me wrong. He's an interesting character. I dislike these character traits, and yet I think they make Angel a more interesting, multi-dimensional title character than most. I like the conflict that arises largely because of these traits as they interact with his other character traits and with the personalities of those around him. I just wish that Angel had been more self-aware and maybe worked on some of these consistent flaws over the, umm, centuries.

RE:

What do hate most about Angel? That I can't grease him up and pay him FT plus a benefits package (and a little somethin else under the table 😉) to sit in my livingroom naked for the rest of his dead life. Undead. Whatever. Yum.

*cowars and covers head from flying fruit and garbage*

I kinda missed the point of this thread didn't I? 😉

YAY! i've been looking for a thread like this for a while. I saw an Anti-Willow thread and almost fainted!

I really don't like Angel, never have. My brother is a huge Angel fan and we get into arguments about the character and the actual spin-off show itself. It's usually him claiming that Angel is soo much better then Buffy....phht please, so not true.

I just really hated his broodyness and everything about him makes me uncontrollably angry...granted there were a couple of times when i didn't hate him...and him appearing at Buffy's prom was one of them...but on a whole my least favourite character by a long way.

Hmmmm, I don't really like Angel on "Buffy." David Boreanaz hadn't quite developed his acting chops at that point and he seemed very uninteresting for a vampire (except when he was evil). I actually considered not giving AtS a chance because I didn't care for the character. However, I like him a lot better on his show. David found the right balance between the brooding and the more comedic qualities of the character. Plus, once they started filling in his backstory more and giving him a purpose besides pining for Buffy he became a much more interesting character. Because of this, I've developed more of an appreciation for him on Buffy but still like him a lot better on "Angel." I still kind of nod along in agreement with Xander when he insults Angel in those early seasons though!

When do I not like Angel? *thinks* I actually like him a tremendous amount. *more thinking* Oh! When he was stalking Buffy. That was very creepy.

One thing i dont like about Angel is the end of I will remember you. Even though he already agreed with the ptb to take back his day with buffy so the deed was already in motion, he goes back to buffy and instead of making their last few minutes together happy minutes, he tells buffy exactly what he did, knowing it would hurt her, and he only did it to satisfy his own lust for pain and brooding.

No, he did it because he wanted to be honest with her.
The character of Angel is just so boring and annoying so I have a hard time enjoying his show sometimes because he just annoys the crap out of me and when he tries to be epic and all that stuff it comes off as a parody of a movie that's epic and dramatic. I hate it.

I like Angel. But I don't really like him on Buffy, I like him on his own show. Although one thing I really don't like, is how in the later seasons of Buffy he just comes to Sunnydale to visit Buffy during really random spots in his show.

He talked funny on BTVS. maybe it was just David's acting though...anyways it annoyed me alot. He just has some sort of whine to his voice.
Loved him on Angel. Hated him on Buffy.
