We have an anti Spike, Xander and Willow thread, so why not Cordy too! Are you anti Cordy, and if you are, what did you dislike about her?

---------- Post added at 12:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 PM ----------

To me she was just so shallow, with a capital SH. Like in Pylea her going on about being a princess pretty much sums her up to a t. She was so obsessed with being a princess it was sick. She couldn't even put two and two together and suss out the was(obviously) a catch. She even didn't wanna go back to earth at first coz there she wasn't a friggin princess. And when Gunn and Wes were gonna escape

---------- Post added at 12:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 PM ----------

with her she tries to take a whole bunch of treasure, completely messing up escaping. They should have threw her down the sewer head first. Anyway, pylea Cordy sums up why she irritates me. So then, Any others wanting to vent against Cordelia? Please?

You know I like you, but I have to ask a question - did you watch the show?

Cordelia was shallow, to an extent, granted BUT even in season 1 Buffy we have an insight into who she is and thats not a shallow person, its someone forced into playing a role in order to 'survive' - something we have all done.

By the time we get to Angel, yes she has her occasional moments but thats the meaningless stuff of life, the clothes and such.

On what matters, she wasn't shallow. Look at how she developed feelings for Doyle.

By the time we get to Pylea she is at a cross roads. She is given the choice of being the shallow girl or being the honest to herself girl. She tastes the life she THOUGHT she wanted and she initially loves it - but then she realises what really matters.

Through-out season 3 she is a selfless, honest and throughtful person who realises that others come first - culminating in her decision in Birthday.

She is a great character that deserves a place as one of the finest characters on the show.

YES YES YES!
Well of her 7 seasons i only liked her for 2 of them, angel s2 and 3, minus pylea of course. But even the Doyle thing, up until hero, although she liked him, she still viewed him like he was a little idiot. Even saying he looks retarded, and scoffing at the thought that she and someone like Doyle could be together.

i like cordeila, she wasn't Shallow,it was just an act to become cool' in high school. it also makes her character more funny, but deep down she's a lovable character.

At first she saw the loser gambler - thats fair enough, considering thats what he portrayed to her.

But as time went on she began to see who he really was.

Plus lets not forget she had spent a year with Xander Harris, the biggest loser in Sunnydale High (to some people) and he broke her heart.

As for the 'retard' comment, well thats obviously banter amongst close friends.

I call the people closest to me all kinds of names, but they are said with affection.

Maybe i hate her because she reminds me too much of myself ;)

Hey! Watch it with that "retard" business. Oni might fiind you yet...
To an extent it was to be seen as cool, but at times she was mean to Xander and Willow even when no one else was around wasn't to be cool, just nasty. In homecoming she disses Buffy by making fun of her parents divorce and was it the zeppo she says to Buff, 'well at least i have a future'. Wouldn't say it was a coolness thing for those times. Im aware it can be put down to being young & in school

When you behave a certain way all the time, there will be moments you continue even when you don't have to.

The fact that she isn't ALWAYS mean to Xander and Willow, speaks far higher of her than not.

The Buffy vs Cordelia thing though is different. Thats actually more about a growing friction between the two characters not about Cordelia just being a bitch for bitchiness sake.

I knew it would be a longshot trying to find other anti Cordys. When i first joined here i expected ones like Wes, Willow and Spike to be very popular, and they are. But i was so suprised at just how popular Cordy is, i mean, she seems to be alot of peoples favorite and if not, they still like her lots, which is fair enough. I was just wondering if ANYone else feels the same way i do about her 🙂

Why are there anti- anyone groups in the first place? If you don't like a character, you don't have to go out of your way to show how much you dislike them. Just pay them no mind.

True i suppose. Tis no biggie though. Theres even one for my fav character Spike.
I don't really mind Cordelia. She's deffinetly not one of my favorite characters but not my least favorite either.
I think she really did have a lot of depth though, she could be a real bitch, but I wouldn't say she was shallow.
And the Pylea thing, she was going through such a hard time in her life at that point you can understand her wanting to stay. But she knew the right thing to do.

I want to agree with you (of all the anti groups that have arisen, I dont understand the hate)...but were an anti-Anya group to arise, I dont think I would object 😛 Easily the worst main character imo.

...and anti-Willow! Whats with that?

Lol, poor Anya :) even though i love Anya i wouldn't mind a 'hate Anya' thread popping up. Just as i didn't mind a anti spike thread.

I never disliked Cordy, but in the first season I didn't really see the point of her. She was just there as vampire bait most of time and didn't really do much but make stupid comments, until the last episodes.

However, in s2 and s3 of Buffy, she grew on me. I even kinda of liked the relationship between her and Xander. She showed her true colors in those seasons and proved that she was more than just bait.

To be absolutely honest, in Buffy seasons 1 to 3, she was little more than a recurring character that had full cast member priviledges.

I have always believed that they should have not had her around as much.

One thing that I have noticed with Buffy and Angel is that when a main character isn't pivotal to the story, they are simply rammed in just because they are being paid to be there.

They do it alot with Cordelia, Lorne, Fred, Anya and to a certain extent Xander.

I have a love/hate relationship with Cordelia. She was one of my favorites when I first started watching Buffy. I didn't care for the Angel character that much on Buffy, so I might not have even given Angel a try if I hadn't known that Cordelia and Wes were regulars on it and that Spike was by the end of the series too (I knew a few spoilers going in!).

I always love Cordelia in the first couple seasons of Angel too. By the middle of season three, when they start the will they or won't they crap with her and Angel, I always begin to lose interest in the character. I'm all for character development and it's cool that Cordelia becomes a better person, but I missed her snarky comments and she was eventually just the love interest. Then in season four she's very obnoxious, but then it wasn't really Cordy. By the end of that season though, I was ready for her to go and didn't really miss her in season five (or did I more than I realize since it's my least favorite season?). Kind of weird to have both strong positive and negative feelings, but that's how it is with me and Cordelia.

I wasn't trying to argue that she played some huge role in how the Buffyverse turned out in those seasons. Only that her character became more than just the role as bait. She should her trueself and what a decent person she was in those seasons. She refused to leave Xander because of what Harmony said to her in season 2 and that took guts. I would have never expected that out of her in the first season. Where she was little more than just a pretty face for Buffy to save. That is what I meant when I said she should her true colors. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was arguing that she played some huge role, that wasn't my intention.

You seriously need to stop worrying and defending your opinion as though people are having a go at you.

My point was more a continuation of something you said.

CC had a full cast credit for the entire time she was on Buffy, but as I said, she was little more than a recurring character for her duration.

all of you who hate cordelia are insane. she is the life of angel. i mean, picture it without her!!! it would be the most depressing thing on television. now anti-wesley..... THAT is a thread worth posting on!!!

I completely agree. Cordelia adds humor and heart to the show (Well, until season four, but that wasn't her fault.)

Excuse me, but i hate Wesley. He must die in the upcoming seasons i am watching. HE MUST. Hopefully it will be very soon. I mean, what does he contribute to the show? He is a useless sidekick and only knows as much as Angel, and is therefor not needed.
