Anti-Kendra Rant

I didn't hate Kendra, and I was sad she was killed off, but yeah she could definitely be annoying at first. But you have to understand her background... She was brought up by a Watcher who made her calling the only thing she had in her life. She was cut off from family, not allowed to have friends... People like that are definitely going to be a little off.
 
I didn't mind Kendra, myself.

I believe that she was neccessary, in a way, in the show, whether the writers thought of it this way or not. We're told that Buffy is an unconventional Slayer, and how this proves an asset to her on many occasions. Then in Season 3, you have Faith, who certainly doesn't like to rely on anyone else, but is, in her own way, another unconventional Slayer- she's not obedient, she's emotional, etc. Apart from Kendra, these are the only two Slayers you see until Season 7. Kendra's very much an example of the "model Slayer". She studies, she's knowledgable, she's socially inept, she's obedient, she lives for her work as the Slayer. She changes slightly during her time in Sunnydale, but I think really, that's the main purpose of her character.

That, and notching up a Slayer death to Drusilla 😛

Her accent was funny...and yeah she was annoying with the whole im better than you Buffy and...i dont know how to have fun.

Someone told me way back before i saw the episode she dies in, that Kendra dies by hitting a fan or a jet plane engine lmao...sadly...it was a lie>.<
 
I actually really liked Kendra.

She served the purpose that she was created for. Just like Faith, I think she was created to be an opposite or other side to Buffy. Buffy = near perfect Slayer. Kendra = Intellectual Slayer. Faith = Not-caring Slayer.

As Kendra got to know Buffy through the 3 episodes she was in, you could tell she was warming up and becoming much friendlier. So I don't think it's fair to call her judgemental.

Why isn't she credited in Becoming Part 2? You see her briefly on the floor when the cops arrive and then again when they're taking Buffy out of the library.

She doesn't have the annoying accent, ponytail, or attitude.
 
Awww I loved Kendra, it was a shame she was killed off so soon. I LOL'd at "That's me favorite shirt; that's me only shirt" LOL. I love her accent too 😀. When she said "I had a good reason to tink you were a vampire..." to Buffy I LOL'd. She was so serious as well bless her.
 
I don't get all the Kendra-hate, and plus her accent is smokin' hot. :: tu :: My wife is Portuguese by way of Guyana and she sort of HAD a Kendra-like accent when I first met her (and it was part of the reason I got hooked on the Mrs. 😛), so Kendra's accent was not a deterrent for me in terms of me popping for the character.

Sure she was a bit of a stringent gal, but as was pointed out earlier that's not her fault, she was raised that way.

I too was a bit saddened by her untimely departure, and the possibilities for a pairing between her and Xander gone up in flames. Those two together would have been quite the cuteness.....

Apparently, being a Slayer does that to individuals. Because Buffy was guilty of the same thing. What do you have against Jamaican accents?

Isn't it interesting thing that most of the fans consider Buffy to be the superior Slayer? I never did. I believe that Buffy has been luckier than most. I simply believed that Kendra had worked best at following the rule book. She seemed to be a more successful Slayer that way, instead of following Buffy's method. Just because breaking the Slayer's rule book worked for Buffy, did not mean it would work for all Slayers. To each her own, as far as I'm concerned. I thought it was a mistake on Kendra's part to attempt to be a Slayer like Buffy. It didn't help her in "Becoming".
