I like him BECAUSE he's not a Saint!

No one is all selfless. And since he's TECHNICALLY supposed to be so evil and bad, even the funny things like drinking hot chocolate with Joyce makes me smile.
Even Dru is better at being pure evil!

Spike tries and he talks a big talk, but he's really not all that great at REALLY being evil. The worst he ever got was the gem of amara (sp?) episodes.
I don't even mind how he treats Harmony pre-S5 of Angel. Technically, she had SOME of it coming to her from how she treated people before and even how she treated the Angel Inc. people when she went to LA!

I think he shows the best and the worst of all of us!

I think that's more Xander's job than Spike's 🙂 But I agree. I like that Spike can be a jackass sometimes. It makes him more interesting than the saint some fans make him out to be.
 
^ Not hate, exactly, but I think they were alarmed by how quickly the audience took to him as well as how ferociously they clung to and defended him. After all, they were trying to show you his dark, monstrous side as well as his tender, loving side. I think they were just frustrated that we made so many excuses for him and sort of ignored his dark side. They probably thought it meant they weren't doing a good job. Honestly, I think that's what the attempted rape was all about -- to sucker punch the Spike-happy audience with his evil side.

I find that silly, though, as I, personally, loved him for his complexity. I loved him for his struggle between the monster and the man. I saw both sides of him and I loved both sides. What I loved more than anything, though, was how the good side always came shining through no matter what.

My thoughts exactly. It was watching Spike the monster become Spike the man, grappling with his demon side & the goodness that was determined to shine thru, and then finally, after much pain & self realization, becoming a hero. Spike was multi-faceted, and that is what made him so interesting to me, not just the fact that he's hot & sexy & funny & all that teen-age crush-like stuff. His journey, including flashbacks to his human days, is the stuff great stories are made of.

I liked Spike as the villian in S-2, and loved his reappearance in S-3... I think it was the sharing with Joyce scene in Lover's Walk that made me realize his role was going to turn into a good guy role, eventually. And I loved watching every minute of it.

I love spike, don't get me wrong but there were some things I didn't like about him.
Like the attempted rape I mean I actually screamed at the TV "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?! GET OFF HER!!" and it just looked so real [good job Sarah and James] but before that moment I never took his "evilness" seriously. After that I was like WHOA!
And in season six and season seven I kinda felt sorry for him because of Buffy. She was using him and he knew it, but it was like he didn't mind.
but still I love him. its probably the
sarcasm + bad boy-ness + the good boy-ness + accent + the hair + the wardrobe [lolz]
but I think what I really like about him was how when he loved someone, he REALLY loved someone. He is like totally dedicated. And the things he was willing to do for Dru and Buffy.

Yep, you see the real William come out in "Lies My Parents Told Me" - he's a caring, passionate man (bit like me really), who get's sh!t on from a great height by people he thought were his friends. No wonder that when the worm turned (so to speak) he went from mild mannered and meek to William the Bloody!

One thing that annoyed me about Spike was in I Was Made To Love You(or is it Intervention) when Spike goes to Warrens house and gives him a box with pretty much every detail of Buffys life, then because of that in s6 the Trio already know everything about the slayer.
 
What didn't I like about Spike...

Well...to steal VG's answer, the fact that he and Faith never got around to gettin' it ON. I mean...so much chemistry. So much awesomeness. They freakin' taunted us with five minutes of what might've been...and then POOF.

...and maybe I'm bitter.

Anyway, on a more serious note - what really grated me was Spike's inability to stand up for himself through a lot of seasons five and six. Season six especially. I was blazingly pissed at Buffy for doing just about everything she did, but I wanted to reach through the screen and backhand Spike across the face and scream, "SACK UP, HO. TELL THIS BITCH WHAT'S UP."

As a sidenote - bleached hair, scruffy motorcycle boots and black nailpolish = MAJOR FREAKIN' WIN. Ya'll are just some haters. 😀

I honestly can't think of anything I don't like about Spike. He's great. I thought he was a bit mean to Harmony, but I can forgive him, because it's Harmony.
 
Well, sometimes his hair is "too" white...like he just colored it and there's no roots. It just looks too clean and shiny. Much better when he's got roots and it's all messed up. In fact, when he was crazy in the school basement, he was the cutest he ever was...except when he was bickering with Angel.

What I don't like about Spike?, not much but if we are going with hair stuff apart from the curlies I dont like it when its real slicked back, makes his head look REAL BIG, its great in parts of season 5 and 6 when its all messy and spiked up......thats what Im talking bout!

100% agree. He's always sexy. But sexiest when he's scruffy. Bad guys SHOULD be scruffy!
A few things really pissed me off about Spike

-Starting off he was amazing pre-chip but afterwards he kinda lost his cool.
-When first of all he did Buffy on the balcony at the Bronze and then he told her to open her eyes and look at her friends(I wanted to strangle him!)
-The rape
-Him always taking advantage of Buffys weaknesses at the time
-lastly his haircolor! WTF is it? im going with Angel and saying Radioactive

What do I not like about Spike? Hmmm...Tough one... I do not like people who smokes, but with Spike it's alright... Hmmm I know!

He doesn't look that good when he vamps out. His pretty face gets all bumpy like. That I do not like... otherwise than that...He's just a hottie God.
