Belive it or not... I have a complain about Spike's character... ME! *Points dramatically at self*

Spike doesn't cry enough!!!!!!

I have thought long and hard about what I dont like about Spike and ultimately, I have come to this conclusion. I loved him when he was first introduced to the show. I loved most of his story arcs but then all of a sudden it felt like he was being overused. It was too much at points....

He doesn't?? Buffy makes him cry all the time! He cries more than any other character on the show. But I like it. Although I hate Buffy for making him cry.

^I know! But I love seeing him cry.
It shows how tender he really is!
Buffy shouldn't make hi cry, but he should cry of happiness or something!

True! Don't know if anyone else agrees with me on this, but when he make Buffy cry in season seven all those times I'm always happy and sad and start crying. 😛

i was a SPike fan right up until S4. He now. Offically annoys the crap out of me. oh, how I HATE him. the whole mopey thing annoys me even more than all the gushing about spike and *cringe* Spuffy on this site. Ugh.

I have mixed feelings about Spike coming back from the dead. It makes for funny conflict with Angel which, yeah, I totally dig. Other than that, though, it seems kind of pointless when his arc sort of ended in a blaze of glory during "Chosen." Now he just seems sort of... I don't know... superfluous?

Oh my gosh....I'm so glad you said this. I feel exactly the same, yet it seems to be a minority opinion. People seem to love Spike in AtS S5.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE Spike. He is my all-time favorite Buffyverse character. But....if I had to choose something I "hate" about Spike, it would be his coming back from the dead. I feel Spike is a more important character then just being Angel's sidekick and comic relief bit.

C'mon, people, Spike isn't a saint. He's far from it. Give real reasons. 🙂 I know it's hard to say the flaws or the wrong deeds your favorite character did, but consider it a challenge.

Spike is surely a favorite character of mine. But he did some things I disliked. Like his treatment of Harmony, even after he got a soul. The way he talked to Wood about his mother. Not telling Buffy he was alive. Going for the shanshu.

I like Spike because he's not perfect.

Sometimes it's fun to be in the minority. :-)
ME! ME! ME! I loved Spike in Buffy Seasons 2, 3, and 4, but after that, he made me soooo mad. Honestly. His little crush on Buffy was not my fav storyline at all, and Spuffy is not my favorite couple. Also, Spike in Season 7 is horrible. Omigod, the way people just forgave him for killing people and easily accepted him was soo annoying. His resurrection was one of the reasons I hated Season 5 of Angel (minus select 8 or 9 episodes). I admit, he is not a bad character, he is just overused and overrated to the point of annoyance.

I loved Spike before he got chip even a little after, but it became clear that buffy had to kill him. When he tried to get the chip out and tried to kill buffy, when they had to buy him blood and house him, when he tried to rape buffy and when he found out dawn was the key. It just didn't make sense that she didn't kill him and I don't believe its because buffy doesn't kill those who are helpless. After the episode when he tries to get the chip out he should've been killed. I would've been upset and it would've made it good, but because he was so pathetic after that it bothered me. If they killed him anytime from 5-7 season I wouldn't be upset.

Props to you sweetie! And your sig makes me happy. :)
I kind of love this thread.

Just the idea of a character so many fervently hate... yet they have to put up with numerous episodes devoted to him, so much spuffy sex, so much love between Buffy and Spike, so SO much Spike being portrayed as a hero in every single episode...

I think i'll have a not so quiet chuckle to myself at all your expense 😛

Totally agreed. I have mixed feelings about his coming back, too. I know I've said this before but I'll say it again; Spike is too good, too important of a character to be Angel's sidekick and comic relief bit. NOW I KNOW that Spike being back was one of the "arrangements" that was made that allowed Angel a 5th season but...still. *sighs

He just seems so lost, that's all.

The only complaint I have about Spike is when he has Warren create the Buffy bot. I love the Buffy bot but only when the scoobies use her to fight vamps. She's actually useful when he's fighting. But the whole create a robot that looks like someone your obsessed with thing gives me the wiggins. It's too icky, even for Spike. To some point it is amusing, But on the other hand like I said creepy! I also don't like how Spike has the chip in his head, But then again without the chip, Spike wouldn't have had the opportunity to have a change of heart. So, I guess the chip is kind of a good thing in a way? It was unfair to Spike. It was just taming the monster inside, But without it Spike never would have fully evolved into such an important character. Plus, We wouldn't have learned about his history either. So I guess I am pro chip-ish? lol.

I like Spike b/c first of all he has some of the best lines in the show. Second of all, The history of his character is fascinating. I think it's cool how him and Angel are linked. The history is very interesting to me, Part of why I like Spike so much. I feel bad for William. He was such a dork. lol. But he had a good heart. He was a very caring person who loved his mother dearly. I guess you could say if he wasnt such a bad poet, He wouldn't have needed to run off and get himself vamped!

I also like Spike b/c even though he's evil at first, he has humanity within him, and he decides to become a better person. He goes off on a journey to get his soul back all on his own. Even if it was for Buffy at first, I think the longer he was living with a soul, The more he felt like a man again. Even though he was still a vampire, He felt like he could finally breathe. If that makes sense?

The one that I didn't like about Spike was that he didn't get over Buffy . I think it would have been interesting to see him pair with someone else Buffy thought she was close with .. I could imagine Spike wanting to make her jealous
James said himself that if he could converse with Spike he would have told him to get over Buffy 🙂 Which I agree on

Soulless Spike - I didn't like his big mouth (Harsh Light of Day, Wrecked, Dead Things).

Souled Spike - I know is your signature, but please loose the coat, I don't care you got another 10 brand new from the chick in Rome.

Spike is one of my favorite characters, but he embodies the expression "Badass Decay."

He was an excellent villain and a great antagonist for Buffy and Angel. I didn't mind that he was an ally to the Scoobies, but I felt it should have been so long as his agenda and theirs intersected; S4 embodied this best. He was comic relief and the occasional ally, but when he felt Adam could facilitate his agenda better, he betrayed them.

Spike's original purpose was to be a multi-faceted foe for Buffy. They could have kept that purpose at the forefront while exploring other sides to his character.

To me, however, Joss and company paid fanservice to his character by romanticising him. As if Angel's role is mere caricature; a stereotype. They treated it as though Buffy required an obligatory vampire-with-a-soul lover, which diminishes both Spike and Angel.
