Anti-Xander Group

I think this thread and the Anti-Willow thread would be more suited to the Cast and Characters forum.

But at least I have something to contribute here. What I hate about Xander? Three words: "Kick his ass." Most especially in conjunction with him later accusing Buffy that her running off over the summer was selfish. (I guess it takes one to know one.)

I agree that "Kick his ass" was the low-point for Xander during the entire series.

There is lots of high-points to make up for it though...

Xander seems to be a rather malevolent character sometimes. Significantly judgmental of people despite his own problems.

Thankies to InsaneMystic and Ripper (link didnt work but i found it) for the message about this... but hard to say everyones entitled to hate him (i don't, i LOVE Xander!) but i find it weird if i may say that on the buffy boards we've got 'Anti-' threads.... spread the love, geez.

I like Xander because of his faults, he's the most human character imo.

Yeah he;s insecure when all his friends go super on him... what would you be like as the average Joe? Yeah he fraks up and makes bad calls, and gets lost in the world... who dosen't?

He's not the straight cut wise-cracking side-kick... complexity and that's what makes me love Joss's writing.

(I loved when they brought up the 'Becoming Part 2' kick his ass thing in season 7, showed that the writers never forgot about him, and i didnt see that as a low point for xander, its what we expect him to come out with. It's not bad, he's justified, hard to say as that is cause i love Angel as well but Xander just has clear, right or wrong... morals on vampires....) Now if its demon women thats a different thing, lol, and wow he's got contradictions like in 'Selfless' with Anya... yeah we all do, human remember... we're flawed.
 
I hated that he knew Angel wasn't the one who hurt Giles in Revelation, he actually called out after Faith to stop going after Angel because Angel didn't hurt Giles. But when Buffy arrived, he implied that Angel did it. That was a low moment for me because it was obvious he wanted to hurt Buffy more than just kill Angel.
 
I like Xander, flaws and all.
Yeah, he did some crappy things, but I think that's what makes me like him. His insecurities and flaws.
I try to get mad when I think about him lying about Angel, but I just can't. The boy had a point.
I gotta figure, if someone I cared about was in love with a guy who turned evil and wanted to kill us all and rational talk wasn't convincing my friends that this guy being gone forever wasn't a good idea....I would probably fudge the truth too. Besides, we had no real proof that Willow COULD do such a spell at that point, she'd never done anything like it before.

No reason for Buffy to wait around to see and perhaps get hurt. And, even though I like Angel, knowing that IF she did the spell he could go all evil again someday, I'm thinking he had his heart in the right place....good intention, maybe not the best follow-through.

Not to mention Willow's weak state at the hospital. The odds were pretty much against them.

I'm with you. Xander's lie never bothered me, if fact, it was the reason I fell in love with his character. I was all, "Finally!! Someone who actually thinks rationally and true to real life!"
 
I hated the way he treated Buffy and Willow (and Cordy, most of the time). He didn't trust them to make decent decisions and really hated seeing them with any other guy. I don't think it was just Angel, either; I think Xander would have hated ANYONE Buffy dated at that point. Look how he treated Owen.

I hate the condescending, cruel things he said to Buffy when they were trying to get Angel's soul back, and then later when they find out Angel is alive. If it were me, at that point, my friendship with him would be over. And he never apologized for it, either. Whenever I watch these scenes, I always wonder why in THE HELL Willow and Buffy still hang out with him.

I hate the way he gets away with all sorts of stuff and never has to answer for it. Like the above condescending remarks. Like the hyena thing. Like the "kick his ass" thing.

I do like that after about S4, he started growing up and stopped being such an ass.

Ugh, Xander makes me mad sometimes.

Whenever Angel is mentioned, I don't like Xander. Ok, ok, we get it, at first he didn't like Angel because he liked Buffy so he clung to the "zomg he's a vampire!" thing and ran with it....but there's a point where he should have let that go. And ok, ok, we get it, Angelus = bad guy...even so, the "kick his ass" scene (and attitude) made me so mad. And the jumping-to-conclusions thing with Faith in S3. And his total hypocrisy when Buffy went off to kill Anya.

He's also annoying (although, granted, less so) when Spike's mentioned. Yeah, we get it, Spike's evil. But you'd think after fighting alongside the Scoobies, and his obvious love for Buffy, and his blatant desire to make amends, that'd count for something. I detest his reaction when he discovers Buffy's relationship with Spike. Yeah, ok, he has a right to be upset/confused, but he handled it so badly (as I knew he would when he found out, and so did Buffy....why does he think she hid it from him so carefully??)

Another moment of "OH JESUS SHUT UP XANDER!" that sticks in my mind is when he and Dawn were talking, and he blurted out, "Yeah, Spike tried to rape your sister" (or something along those lines..I know he worded it way worse in the episode). If anyone were to explain the situation to Dawn, it should have been Buffy, not Xander. And he said it so insensitively, in such a cold and cruel way, I couldn't believe it. It was as if he just wanted to make Spike the bad guy, not caring how that information would affect and hurt Dawn.

There are probably more. I have very much a love/hate relationship with Xander.
 
Xander really is an asshole. Yea he had some good moments, I enjoyed him and Anya, but anytime he got punched in the face by either spike or angel, he definitely deserved it. Actually I would go further than saying Xander is an asshole, I would say he is actually extremely cruel. Like a very bad person sometimes with very little way to rationalize it. The Angel example above about letting Faith kill him is one. Okay angel is a vampire, but he has a soul, and I think knowingly letting someone die for something you're not sure they did is pretty awful. He was just awful to Spike too, and right to his face. Okay Spike used to be the big bad, did some really bad shit, but especially when Spike was in some really bad places, but had proven to be at least somewhat loyal to the scoobies pre-soul, Xander would be really hurtful. Also he made a big fuss about everything and treated Buffy like she was an idiot. Like someone said above, if Xander was my friend, I would've cut him loose. But in reality, if people say sorry, that's okay you know. Sometimes we do things in anger, or our petty feuds get the best of us, but I cannot recall Xander apologizing even once for all those crappy things he did. Okay the rant is over 😛
 
Hmmm... I can't believe I never posted in here when this thread first came out... Despite briefly liking Xander when I was 13ish, I have never liked him, I think he's overrated, a bigot, and plain nasty sometimes. Why do people like Xander? Because he has flaws? I don't choose my friends based on what's wrong with them, I base my friends on what I LIKE about them. Seems strange that so many people site the reason they like Xander as 'he's flawed'.
Also, are we saying that no one else on the show is flawed? Because I thought that was what made Buffy a better TV show then others, the moral ambiguity that all the characters have. I just believe that Xander is a shade of grey to dark to be a good person.
People often say his low point is the 'kick his arse' comment, but I disagree, there isn't a low point for Xander, it's a collection of things that have built up over time. And besides, he left Anya at the altar - that is NEVER okay! And the way he does that weird thing in Season 1 where he's peeking at her getting changed - weird guy from high school that freaked girls out much?

Okay, I feel slightly better after that rant, and I apologise if I've offended all the Xander fans on the Boards.
But, well, it is an Anti-Xander thread?

And what ever happened to the girl that started up all these threads? She just started up a bunch of negative threads and then left... Weird.

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! There can be no anti-Xander group! Why? Because he's the most normal person on the show, and in his own occasionally assholey way he is the best because he always says how he feels. He doesn't hold back because he genuinely loves his friends and he doesn't want bad things to happen to any of them. Plus he's freaking HILARIOUS. How can anyone not love him?!


LOL Ok, I'm done now. I just saw this post and had to come defend the Xandman.
