Any boxing fans here: What are the odds of Connor Mcgregor pulling off the upset tonight?

I believe Mcgregor has a better shot than most people are giving him. If he is to win it has to be quick; the longer it goes the less chance he has. If I were giving a percent I would say 30%. Look at the tale of the tape and the biggest thing that jumps out is 40 vs 29. That's a huge discrepancy. Youth and being taken for granted could lead Mcgregor to a W.

I'd love to see Conor win.
It comes down to if age has caught up with Mayweather or not. If he's at the same level he was at in his last couple of fights then McGregor has no chance at all. However age does catch up with every fighter, so if he's slower and rusty then maybe McGregor has a punchers chance.

In a combat sport between two pro fighters in the same weight division, there is no such thing as 'zero chance of winning'. Everyone is always one punch away from a defeat.

I personally can't see Mayweather being as good as he was a few years ago. Age, along with ring rust should have an effect. I guess agree with everything else.

Don't you think 30% is quite a big margin? I do agree that a quick stoppage is the best bet for Mcgregor. However, what is the likelihood of that happening? Age and ring rust / inactivity is a big factor, I agree!

Yup, and it would be awesome to see an upset. But given that it's a boxing match, Floyd has a significant advantage. Experience is huge, plus conditioning; the potential to be fighting a lot longer than what Conor is use to as well as a style that will likely see a lot more punches thrown. Although I've seen the opinion that Conor's biggest advantage is his lack of experience boxing...so who knows.

Yup, the fight went exactly how I planned and expected. Mcgregor did better than I expected as well. It was a more entertaining Mayweather fight than some of his past ones.

Just saw Frank Warren on BBC Breakfast being critical of BBC 5 Live and how they could find the money to report on the Mayweaher / McGregor fight but has said they haven't had the money to report on any Nicola Adams fight. Thought he made a good point

Why? She's no way near as big. Haven't even heard of her before just now. Why would the BBC report on someone who isn't going to bring in anywhere near the viewers? Aren't they supposed to prioritise what people would want to see?


As for the fight, pretty much what I expected although I had been hoping for more engaging play early on. McGregor gassed out very quickly. He seemed pretty knackered after round two or three. Seems like the endurance needed for MMA is different to the one needed for boxing. I feel like the referee stopped it a bit prematurely but that Mayweather was pretty much assured victory at that point.
 
I guess it turned out to be a decent 'fight' after all. Not that I cared. The only reason I even know is that I was with people who were watching. I was watching football (NFL).

It makes me wonder if 'money' isnt the real reason the BBC don't live-report from and Adams fight if they can find the money to fly rreporters and crew to the States for this fight. The BBC is meant to serve the whole of the UK, and they get our money to do it.

Adams is an Olympic Gold Medal Winner, the first female Olympic boxing champion, and is an OBE she's very well known in the UK, and would be more well known internationally if the BBC actually broadcast her fights 🙂 It's similar to women's football, which was never shown on tv or even discussed until recent years and the popularity has grown massively. Maybe if the BBC showed/discussed more women's boxing, the popularity of that sport would grow.

I saw that bit on the news this morning. What the hell? I wanted to see McGregor laid out on the floor.

He was somewhat amusing with all of that trash talk, but after awhile he was just ANNOYING. I mean, I knew he'd lose but I wanted him to get destroyed. 🙁

Totally agree
Like many others, I saw it. I gave 3 of the first 4 rounds to Mcgregor, and after 6 it was tied. It was sad to see Connor get tired. As he got tired, Mayweather took over. It could have been headed to a decision if he could have boxed like he did early on.

Let's just say he fought a better fight against Mayweather than Pacquio, who was never close in his fight with Mayweather. Overall it was entertaining and lived up to hype.
