Thinking about giving it a go this winter. About the only idea the Spanky can't get behind is the no real toilet aspect. Looking at this not sure if I should be filled with wonder or dread. Anyone out there do any off the grid camping, etc

Basically you want a cassette type with a fold out hose .They feel like a toilet ,rather than just crapping in a posh bucket . Any less and you're looking at, or vaguely handling, the slurry .There's little cheap toilet tents available , made for the job. 😉

Actually the crapping on a posh bucket was the most intriguing aspect. A bucket with a seat on it... yeah. Think it could be rather comical.

It's just the cleaning and depositing the remains that wasn't too keen on. Don't want to be driving around with me poo in the car looking for a dumpster on the way out.

Even in the one you showed you still have to "handle it" right? take the thing with you, dump it out, etc
 
Those thing only work well when you stay at a proper camp ground.
I must say I was a bit surprised to hear you talk about toilet paper though the picture of a port-a-loo explained a lot.
As for driving around looking for a dump point, trying asking that when you first go to a camping ground.
Posh 20ltr buckets are part filled with water and clothes washing soap, put in the clothes and seal the top for an effective washing machine while on the move.
And about that kiddy Spanky, j8udging by the smile I'd say she'd just been and used the bog-roll to clean the spade!
Fun fact about leaning on trees, that is where you'll find loads of spiders.
 
Its not actually that uncomfortable to poop in a hole and bury it. Optimum pooping position. Only if you're really off the grid though. Wouldn't want to be doing that in an inhabited area.

A lot of beaches and remote places have drop toilets. Dig a deep hole under the bucket and take out the bottom of the bucket and there is no handling of waste required. Since the RV revolution there are waste dump sites for portaloos in every town.

I duno about over there but proper campsites do have toilets here. Its the bidet you'd likely have to do without 😉

there's no campsite nor campgrounds... so no toilets, water, electricity, etc. just a forrest road. and its against the rules to bury it. could get into trouble if caught doing so.
I want to do a camping trip for my birthday next year but @Mehansa wasn't that keen on it so we might be staying in a cabin instead. I don't really mind as long as we're with nature and I can contemplate life.

We stayed in a cabin on our recent road trip. It was nice! Good heater and the bed was comfy. Def warmer than a tent!

Maybe try glamping in a yurt or something fancy ;) Best of both worlds .
When you say a camping trip do you mean going with a tent a caravan or a motor home?

And Spanky, who tells the bears and any other animals to clean up after themselves?

I used to camp up your way with just a sleeping bag. But we usually found a little shed or shelter to be in. Lots of holes in the ground up there 😉 people probably built houses on it by now.
 
I did some tent camping recently, actually! My friend and me drove across the country from Seattle, WA to Tulsa, OK (we drove total 3000 miles) and to save money, we camped a couple nights. We did stay in established campgrounds though that had shared bathrooms and showers. It wasn't off grid by any means.

My only advice is to make list of supplies and make sure you have everything you need. We forgot a flashlight which is a pretty important item when you're setting up a tent in the dark!

Overall it was fun but it did get pretty cold at night (like 30s) so I wished I'd had a better sleeping bag.

The cassette toilet is the killer app. for Spanky's sort of wild camping , either with or without chemicals . If you can't bury it ,you have to transport it .

There are self contained dewatering compost toilets ,but they are massive . There are incineration options but they are an environmental disaster and burning waste looks vaguely disgusting (never tried it) .If you can't bury onsite ,all the wide mouth 'buckety' camp toilets,and natural waterless composting solutions , are useless .

Oh Plasma, I am so glad you stated that in the singular because if it had been stated in the plural one might think folk had the runs.
