Any freakish Spuffy/Bangel hybrids out there?

I think that has a lot to do with the characters rather than the couple. People love Spike, people love Wesley...both men were in love with women who didn't love them and so that added tragedy and romance to the relationships that maybe wouldn't have been there if the characters weren't so popular. It made them more attractive to the viewer.

Possibly, although it might not be "attractive" so much as "relatable". With Spike, I kind of... ached for him. I wholeheartedly believe that he loved her, but I also believe that his love brought him misery because he really wasn't meant to feel that way. He tried tried to stop himself, but he could never resist his impulse to be near her and help her (favorite example of this: I'm free if that bitch dies! I better help her out). Although, yes, in the end I did like him more.

There was a Fred/Gunn relationship? Man, it's been too long since I've watched Angel. I liked Fred/Wesley, though, from what I remember.

The very same could be said for Angel. He and Buffy are my favourite characters, I relate to them more so that's why I'm more compelled towards their relationship.

I am a complete Bangel fan.
I love Spikes character probably more than Angel but his relationship with Buffy was too violent and pretty much just all about sex. Plus he tried to rape her!!! Has everyone forgotten that, soul or no soul he said he loved her, you don't rape someone you love. I think Spike is in love with all slayers, but Buffy more so because he never succeeds in killing her. I love spike and Dru too so i'm biased lol.
As Giles points out in season 7, Angel leaves because its the best thing to do, because he wants the best for her. I love the romance of Bangel, it was a big part of what made the show successful, it attracted the audiences. I remember it was everywhere, everyone always talked about it and it was all over magazines. For me buffy and Angel was like romeo and juliet lol.
Although personally I don't like the way Buffy's character has turned out, so I want both Angel and Spike to find someone more deserving.

I adore Bangel, that's no secret but I really don't think they are anything like Romeo and Juliet and I actually get annoyed when that comparison is thrown at them. I'll try and explain this as best I can (the post by tpk I posted above does a better job at than this I think).

Romeo and Juliet is an easy comparison to make but if Buffy and Angel were truly like them then Buffy would have never killed Angel. In fact she would have ceased to exist once he lost his soul. But here's the thing, she didn't. She didn't stop when she sent him to hell nor did he stop when she died. They both found ways to carry on, carry on their lives and their love for each other, whether they were together or not. That isn't the young star crossed love that Shakespeare's tale told, this isn't an immature love. This is the real deal. It lasts. It was a factor in every season of Buffy...the majority of which didn't include Angel. That cannot be ignored or dismissed as first love, first crush or a fairytale romance because it is everything but.

Romeo and Juliet is also often mis-referenced. Romeo did not love Juliet - not in the way Angel clearly loved, and still does love Buffy. (Not that I'm relinquishing my support for Cangel as the right ship for him, but I'm realistic.)

I agree with your point about Buffy though. She is most definately not a Juliet. Not now anyway. I'd say early Spuffy had a much closer vibe to Romeo and Juliet than Bangel ever did anyway. But that's not what this topics about, so I'll shut up now.
