First, to avoid confusion, the cartoons (that I think you're talking about) are anime while the comics are manga.
Offhand, there's
Violet Evergarden, which ranges from diabetic sugar shock to excruciatingly tragic (but if you liked the first eps of Demon Slayer then this could be for you). It lacks supernatural elements, though has some quirks (like taking place in the early 20th century, and yet mechanical hands that can type--at least after a lot of work and practice).
I'm glad that the eps were self-contained stories as most felt like a gut punch from something so sad and/or beautiful, but is a story of rising above one's tragic circumstances to create a good life for one's self...and for others in the process.
Angel Beats subverts the Magical Girl anime somewhat, in interesting ways. Some find it hard to get through the first couple of eps or so as they lean so silly, but like Buffy, worth the payoff. It makes sense they'd be like that as they lived messed up lives, died tragically, and now find themselves in some sort of limbo purgatory where they're still trying to figure out what's going on, with plenty of plot twists. (And the utter, sweet irony at the end...)
There is an extreme level of combat, though as one "killed" wakes up the next day to continue (the real tragedy, even horror, is when people start getting obliterated where they don't, though that's part of the plot twists, and also connected to the end irony).
It doesn't help that half the show was cut in half (though that makes it easy to get through) so that some isn't explained (like one girl in there who holds herself to extremely high standards but is easily fooled by plush toys and the only one not to use guns is from a time before there were such things, living in a cave for possibly centuries before circumstances had her join the others in an alliance against the enigmatic Angel, which is explained in the manga, and was intended for the anime series but was cut out by the suits).
I did a review on it here when I saw it for the first time...after a 2nd viewing, I'm thinking of doing an updated review. I actually liked it better (and caught a lot more important details) on the 2nd viewing. And for what it's worth, here's a trailer for it (though it can't really explain it):
There's a cyberpunk anime,
Battle Angel Alita (I think there's also another title it goes under) that people tend to love or hate, and I think the anime movie is about an hour, give or take a few minutes, trailer here:
This series appeals to a wide variety of people, from one with autism to others who had to rebuild their lives after it was destroyed who saw this as inspirational. I'm a MUCH bigger fan of the manga (comics) than either the anime or live action movies, but still enjoy the movies (the live action surprisingly true to the source material while being adapted well to live action, even if a couple of deviations from the character lore did irk me).
Speaking of which, a really good maga (comics), one that I've reread multiple times, that you might be able to get from your library is this anthology (not all about Alita), which comes with a summary and timeline of the world:

From what I saw of Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan (not much of the latter), I thought you might like that one in particular, though the trailer doesn't really say much on why.
