Any parents here?

Lets be honest (I'm sure parents will love me for this) tv and/or computers are an easy/comfortable way to keep your kids distracted/busy. I'm not fond of the idea but times change and believe me, if I was a parent I'd most likely let them watch a lot of tv too. Now please don't take this as "kids watching tv = having bad parents". There's a loads and loads of other things that comes in play. Tv and computers have their fair share of good things about them too. It all depends on how you use them.

Thank you!! Honestly, the TV stays on in our house almost all day long. And most of the time, it's on channels like Nickelodeon or Disney Channel. BUT, that being said, my 2-year-old hardly EVER sits to watch an entire TV show. The TV is mostly background noise in our house til nighttime.
I get really ticked off at people who don't have kids that judge parents and their parenting habits. It really gets under my skin for someone who doesn't have a clue what it's like to raise a kid today to tell me "You really shouldn't do this" or "You are a bad parent if you do that". What the hell ever. My kids are happy, healthy, and intelligent little girls so obviously I'm doing something right. 🙂

I'm not a momma.... yet. Just found out actually that we are expecting, and I couldn't be more excited.

With that said, I fully intend to introduce my child (and future children, should there be any) to the buffyverse very early on. I think it's important for them to understand the difference between good tv and bad tv. Much in the way that John Hughes movies are awesome, and "Mean Girls" is not a "classic movie" (although cute and funny... not a classic.)

Also, I think it will help develop a sense of reality when it comes to monsters and scary things. If you keep it to television, I think kids will understand the differences between fantasy and reality.

I think I'll hold off on shows like Dexter for awhile... that one is a little too real, and a little too adult.

Of course, this is what I think about these things now. I'll have to wait until the little one arrives before I can really say what I'll actually do. It is nice to know that there is a whole new generation of Whedonverse fans out there 🙂

I have a 9 year old son. This is his first "scary" TV series.

Many of the episodes are fine. Some are not. Season 6 is brutal. There are many episodes I did not let him watch. "Where the Wild Things Are" was definitely a no!!!

BTW, this year we went on a Buddhist Family Retreat. We live in a very rural area, and the retreat was near San Francisco. Several of the families there consisted of "two mommies" so we talked about homosexuality. He had never been exposed to it. I found the whole Willow/Tara relationship to be interesting. I wanted to see what my son learned....

First, I am so thankful Joss put the first kiss in "The Body." I could go on and on about my love for that episode, and the first kiss, but I'll just say that is one of the most loving, tender, heartfelt kisses EVER!! He could have made the first kiss in a bath, with two half-naked, totally hot lesbians, but we all know he's too smart for that. 🙂

My son realizes that love is love, and that Tara loves Willow like a man loves a women. Watching Buffy with my son, and seeing him understanding that homosexuality is fine, was a great experience.

I kind of hate Joss Whedon now for not making their first kiss scene in the bath tub with two hot naked chicks.

As long as you're not abusive - people have no right to judge your parenting styles. We have the TV on with the baby around - but he mostly just runs around and plays. Lots and lots of running around and playing.

I have four kids; a 17 year old daughter, and sons aged 15, 13 and 5. They've all watched Buffy - my 13 year old son particulalry enjoys it and read the comics (although I must admit that I made an edited version of the frakking issue as I thought he is a little young to be introduced to the karma sutra just yet). My elder sons also really love Angel and Smile Time is still one of their favourite things to watch if we've got nothing to do.

My 6 yr old loves Oz and werewolves, so I'm thinking of reading some of the Retreat arc to him, but I need to look through it again & make sure there's no naughty naked stuff in there LOL. I just right now told him that I watched ATS s5 Unleashed, and he got super excited. 🙂

I'm 29 and have 3 kids, so I'm probably the youngest with the most. : P
My oldest two are twins, Jessica and Rhys and they're 5 next May
and my youngest is Victoria Isabelle and she's 5 months old 🙂

And Jessica and Rhys watch Buffy with me occasionally, and if I'm watching Buffy during the day, Victoria will watch it with me, she doesn't find it scary cause she has no idea what's going on hehe

24 with 3 boys age 10, 5, and 4 (two are step kids though)
Yes, I have kids, and I haven't really let them watch. I think they're still a bit too young especially for season 6. Maybe someday. However they do know who Buffy is and what the show is about.

I've got a 9 year old and he loves Buffy. Willow and Dawn are his favorite. He watches most of the episode, but closes his eyes during certain parts. Some episodes I won't let him watch. Where the Wild Things Grow (sex) and that episode about the demon who kills kids in the hospital. That was way too scary!

BTW, I'm a bit stunned that no one has posted pics of the kids. What kind of forum is this? 🙂

Eh - we had issues with a pedophile that used to be a member. Luckily our fantastic staff got him out with very little incident but Id be a tad wary posting pics.
