Any Xena fans?

Xena was my first big fandom of the Internet era, pre-Buffy. I videotaped every episode, back when videotaping was a thing.

The campiness and anachronism took some getting used to, but once you realized the show was its own thing and not trying to be historically accurate, it was a lot of fun. The show had excellent fight choreography and the best stuntpeople you'll see outside of Hong Kong.

They were recently trying to reboot it, but that kind of fell apart. The show was lightning in a bottle, depending on just the right blend of actors and writers and directors, and I don't think it would be possible to get it right again. I'd rather see a spinoff in the same universe with Xena and Gabrielle dropping in for occasional guest appearances.

The show is a historical mess, I love it!

I would have loved to have seen a spin-off, but I think Xena was so inherently 90s it would be nearly impossible to pull it off. Unless the show got rid of its campiness and cheesiness I don't think it would be 'accepted' as proper tv nowadays. TV is very different today!

Xena was a lot of fun and had some very interesting characters. I never watched it from beginning to end, but I enjoyed what I saw. It got pretty bat-shit at times, but it was never boring from what I saw.

In regard to her sexuality, my understanding is that she was bi. I remember she had relationships with men, but her thing with Gabrielle definitely seemed more than friendship. It was never explicitly stated... a lot of people lost their heads even when it was just subtext and this was probably a while before an openly LGBT hero would fly.

I never watched much Hercules, but they did a few crossovers. Honestly, I just couldn't get interested in Herc as a character... he always seemed way too white bread to me.

Xena is more about redemption and what that means, which is why it sometimes gets compared to Angel more than Buffy, despite the ass kicking female lead.

I only ever saw bits of the show in passing, probably while waiting for Sunset Beach to come on, as they were both on Channel 5. I thought it looked cheap in a Star Trek way, but unlike Star Trek it had less dullards and more fun. And I agree that Lucy Lawless is a babe. She should be on tv more.
