I was watching some of the episodes from the earlier seasons, and something occurred to me: any time before Season 7, whenever Anya was involved in any kind of fight, she was, to say the least, ineffective, hopping around at the outer edges of the action, usually clutching some weapon awkwardly, obviously completely out of her element. Suddenly she's a vengeance demon again, and she nearly kicks Buffy's ass in a one-on-one. Then, once more human, she accounts for a bunch of uber vamps and Bringers before she's finally brought down by an attack from behind. Where was this warrior lady in previous seasons when she was needed?
 
Perhaps in the short time she was back to being a vengeance demon she picked up on some stuff, and it stuck with her when she became human again, i'm not sure about that,

but my explanation for before would be that she never got the need to fight as a vengeance demon, so she wasnt skilled back in her first seasons,
But then it leads to once she returned to being a vengeance demon she might have felt more comfortable with the wepons, since she was stronger and maybe more fighting smart, and it carried on as she became a human

next and easiest possibility, she could alwas fight as a demon, but as a human she wasnt vey good, and in season 7 she learned
 
Or she didn't really feel a need to fight in previous seasons because she knew Buffy or Spike or her beloved Xander was going to always save the day. When it came to Ultimate Apacolypse-time, where she knew it was going to be the biggest battle she'd ever be in, she stepped it up a notch. I mean, two seconds before the Ubers came, she was a nervous wreck. It was Andrew who got her in a fighting mood. Does the like "Bunnies.." ring any bells?
 
Yeah ^^ The reason she starts to fight, Andrew said "Think about bunnies," and Anya said "Bunnies. Floppy, hoppy bunnies," I mean, you can practically see anger bubbling in her eyes [lol] then she started to fight.

Well, I think earlier on, she probably didn't feel the need to grasp any warrior type skills and be in the front line of battle because Buffy and the scoobies were there and she felt she just wouldn't need to fight 'cause didn't have to.. then she obviously got used to life as a human and she might've felt the need to get a little more involved, as she wasn't as powerful as she used to be when she was a vengeance demon. And so needed to buck up and do her bit in the struggle against evil basically just to stay alive.
 
Also after that wonderful talk with andrew and telling him how she actually admired the way humans fought for what they believed in... ithink her greater understanding and appreciation and love for them realy made her want to fight, not just for herself and her survival but because she wanted the world as a whole to survive because she actually cared, and wanted to be in it with them, you know? A couple of years ago she would have ran away. But she was embracing mortality finally and what it meant and the will to live.
 
I think she gets extremely worked up about bunnies and so when she heard Andrew say "Bunnies" she was ready to go. Lets look to the loudest part of Once More with Feeling "Bunnies, Bunnies, it must be Bunnies!!!" I also agree that she did not feel the need to fight in the past seasons but come Chosen all of the characters seemed to step up and they fought really hard.
 
Yeah the development of the Vengence Demons is usually a bit weird. My first impression of them was 'Bad Wish Fairies' but now I see there was a lot more to them. Plus what's with Anya's voice in 'The Wish' when shes in demon form? Freaky...
 
Being a Vengeance Demon made her naturally good at fighting (Like vampires). Also, before the final battle, she tells Andrew that she "finally understands why humans fight", and that gives her more incentive to actually join the fray, not just hide.
