Anya's death

I think I still find Anya's death in the final ep a shock. The whole sword through the body thing is way harsh. Anya wasn't my all time fave character, but she did bring a certain something to each episode she was in.
 
Anya's death came as a chock to me. I have always thought she would live.

The way she died, was kinda nasty :/

BUT! I like to think it like this: Anya came to terms with her actual love for humans, and sacrificed her life in order to protect them. She was....a hero

I loved ANya. Her death was sad, but not unnecessary. The part that got me was when Xander was screaming for her and couldn't find her and she was dead on the ground 🙁

Anya was way overdue to die just because her whole mortality worries meant her time was soon to be up.

That was one of the saddest things I ever saw on the show... I was sobbing as if my heart was broken at that scene. :(
I always loved Anya. She was cute, funny and sweet. I almost had to cry when she died. Especially when Xander was screaming for her and said: That's my girl. Always doin' the stupid thing.

^ Yep. My favorite characters in every fictional movie/show/book always seem to die.

Like in Harry Potter. I won't say who in case I spoil it for someone (spoiling HP should be a federal offense), but yeah. Always happens.
 
I definitely don't hate Anya. She's certainly not at the top of my list, but I do believe she added plenty of value to the show.

I just re-watched "Chosen" today and had an interesting reaction: I just teared up a little during Spike and Buffy's final exchange, but I bawled during Xander and Andrew's exchange regarding Anya's death. Totally not what I expected from myself.

I did, however, notice two things I had a slight problem with. First, I was surprised at how briefly Xander attempted to locate Anya before vacating the school. He could have put up a little resistance. (Of course, I don't know how much effort he put into it offscreen.) And second (which may be related to the first), I was surprised he wasn't more heartbroken during his conversation with Andrew. I'm sure he knew she was dead at that point (since all that was left of Sunnydale was a gaping hole, and she wasn't on the bus) so it wouldn't have come as a surprise, but I would imagine he would at least cry a little. I even thought he might show some resentment toward Andrew, since Andrew said Anya died saving his life, and here Andrew isn't exactly a friend (he was a bad guy not too long ago!).

(I wasn't planning on going on and on about it, so I didn't read the whole thread. I hope no one has already touched on any of that.)

Anya, eh? Just skimmed this thread, but thought I'd add my two cents before I'm off to do laundry.

I love Anya. She's funny and cute. I felt she did become a full-fledged member of the Scooby Gang due to her relationship with Xander (like Tara did due to Willow). I feel Anya did contribute a whole lot to the show and found her to be an interesting character. Her transtition from being a demon to a human was interesting, and how she learned to live in human society.

I felt we were owed more with her death. In the commentary, Joss says in regards to Anyas death, that he wanted to show the nature of war, and how even heroes can go down very un-heroically and quickly. I idea that death can come very quickly, and we can't always have that drawn-out, dramatic death we desire 🙂 So, if you think of it that way, it's not so bad, her quick, brutal death I mean.

I was upset with Wes' death as well for the same reason.

I'm okay with how she died, for that very reason. I kinda like when pivotal characters are killed (morbid much?), because while it is painful, it is more realistic. The realism of that one moment trickles down into the entire series.

It just irritates me that Angels "Death" was really drawn out and dramatic. And so was Freds. But for Wes and Anya...just like that.
 
I'm ok with who died. I mean it makes the most sense. People say there wasn't enough grieving for Anya, like they dismissed a friends death too strongly. It would have been even worse if it were Xander, Willow, Giles or Dawn. There's no realistic way they could fit their deaths and still wrap up the plot nicely. And not enough people care about Andrew, Wood or Kennedy, in fact most people would probably be glad so there a miss. Anya fit nicely in the middle of those two classes. The only other option would have been Faith.
 
^ Mmhmm. And killing Faith wouldn't have wrapped things up nicely. On the contrary, it would have left things dangling, since the audience knew there would be a new Slayer called, one we'd never meet on-screen.

I don't think so. All potentials had already become slayers thanks to Willow. Correct me if I'm wrong.

But then, this is getting off-topic.
 
I was so upset about Anya's death... with anya you get to see her become more human, she has to adapt and part of the whole inappropriate sarcasm and comments is just her learning. I mean when you compare Anya in the Body to say the start of season 4 then you can really tell how much she's progressed. She's trying to understand how to be a human, and i agree with AmongFriends...her speech in season 7 is like her admitting and being happy to be human.

The death itself was very appropriate to the character. It was direct and to the point. Totally Anya! A much better way for the character to leave then originally planned in season 5 The Gift.

I was upset about her death too, she never truly received a chance to redeem and find herself as a human. Well, if you don't count her last battle at the Hellmouth as a redemption. She was killed by a friggen' Bringer! Ughhh.

I loved Anya, her honesty, and her wicked sense of humour. Hehe, I always remember her in Same Time Same Place where she told Willow "Buffy is fighting the demon over there, see, but if they get too close I'm going to have to run." Rotf, so I disagree with the death's "appropriateness". I was hoping maybe she'd die, yes, but possibly in Xander's arms or whatever. You know, finally give her character a rest with the directness, making it meaningful. And I can totally imagine her saying something SOO random while she was dying.

So yeah, loved her.. didn't love her death. 🙁
 
Anya is amazing. She represents a different side to the whole thing. She's not human, but she tries very hard, but she still isn't a human. All the things that make humans human are lost on her or at least very difficult to understand.

I love Anya. I think she's funny and awesome.

I was certainly very sad when she died. And she died doing something she would have never considered doing.

Further, that speech she made in the hospital in End of Days was fabulous.
