Agreed, even though I understand what Josh wanted. He wanted her death to be small and not such a big deal, because sometimes death comes quick like that. But I still would've liked it better, if we could've actually seen her die, instead of her dropping to the ground and thereby having to conclude she is dead.
 
Allycat, I totally agree. (oh, and it's Joss btw!) I loved Anya and I'm wicked sad she died, but she did die helping to save people so it was noble. She finally understood what being human means - a good end to her character's story.
 
I agree with you Magui and Allycat. Thats what I've been trying to say. BTW, Allycat I love your banner. I take it you are a Mercedes/Harmony fan? Me too! 😀

Anya's death is a death I can't bear to keep watching and usually close my eyes for the second she does. Horrible way to die.
 
I really liked Anya and wish she hadn't died, but I thought that she should have died, BUT i thought they should have handled it better. it wasn't fair the way they just gave her like 3 seconds, and then nothing.
 
I thought Anya's death was kind of "sad." Not in the way that people feel upset and want to cry, just it was like "She just got cut in half" the end of her! When I found out about Anya dying I depicted something way different, and even the characters after she dies only mention her once and then act like they forget about her. Sad...
 
I cant believe people have voted that she should have died!
I get it that people might not like her, but please, death? Thats too harsh!
 
I think the fact that maybe Anya didn't know when she was about to die may of been a good thing. I think she must of died quicky, that sword did go right through her practicaly!
 
yeah, and at least she wasn't scared XXXXless knowing that the blade was about to slash her in two
 
All I remember was when that sword cut through her I held my stomach. It felt like I was going to throw up my heart. I've followed the show since I was seven years old and then suddenly WAHMMY! One of the funniest characters is killed off. But she was killed in the line of duty for the good. I cried a lot on May 20th.
 
Well, the good thing about her dying is that she went out being a hero. Thats why I thought it wasn't terrible, just like Spike's death. I had to look at it some way, to make it seem okay. 😛

Whedon: I wanted to kill somebody, and I wanted to do it brutally and suddenly and never really pay it off. I wanted a death that was a real middle-of-the-battle death "” the opposite of the Spike death, [which was] perfect, noble. And Emma had made it clear that she really was not interested in coming back. I think things with Fox weren't great and she felt ill-used "” not by the show. She had a good time making the show, I think. But she was ready to move on. But it was tough [killing her off]. The last shot before we wrapped her was that shot where she gets sliced. And it's very weird to play your death and go, "Okay, I'm done."

TVGO: No one seemed to be too broken up about it.

Whedon: I had a lot to wrap up, so I let Xander (Nicholas Brendon) have a moment of closure about her, just enough to get him to the point where he could rejoin the group for a moment of, well, "We won." You have to get yourself to a good place if you want the show to go out on an uplifting moment, which I did. So I used shorthand.

Also, in Buffy magazine, they said that Anya was originally intended to be killed in season five's The Gift. So, I guess we should be happy that she lasted until season seven's Chosen.

Killing her in The Gift? Eek, that wouldn't have been good, losing 2 role characters in one episode wouldn't have left a good impression upon the finale of a season.
 
In 'selfless' D'hoffern hints that Anya was going to die soon anyway. But then again he could of been hint that Buffy wouldn't beat the hellmouth and they would all die. Just a thought 😉
 
But Anya's death in "The Gift" would've subtracted from the greatness of Buffy's death...I think it would have been great to see Xander die..I mean I love him...but I think his character had it's closure...if he would have died protecting Anya...or actually...if he had died protecting someone like Andrew or Spike...that would've been great..dying for someone he didn't even like..that would have shown him to be the true hero...
