Anybody else a little brassed off with Joss?

I'm still filled with Joss love actually.. even though he's done some stuff recently with BtVS season8 that I'm not on board with.
The man seriously needs me on his continuity staff 😛 Anyway I would suggest that if there is going to be a BtVS movie etc. he should make it a prequel or sequel to season eight. Everything would tie in fine then.. but you never know what ideas he has swimming through his brain.

Like others have said with whatever Joss does, I'll be there to support it. And damn I sound like a sap.. but I don't care.

As much as I would love to see a pre Season 8 movie, or comic, or anything else, I have to point out that it would eliminate the possibility of either Spike or Angel being involved, and some of us would be somewhat disappointed by that.
I'd like a movie showing how Buffy got called and her life as a Slayer in LA. One that is considered canon.

I always thought that, aside from Buffy's age and the general campiness of the vampire Lothar, it was pretty much canon.

Not exactly-it varied enough from Joss's script-flying vampires, Merrick's fate, etc-that he doesn't hold it canon. I believe the Dark Horse comic "Origin" is considered the canon version, since it's closer to the script.

I don't think it can be considered official canon because of those two many conflicting features with the TV show. In the movie she's a Senior, but in season one she's just a Sophomore. She didn't burn down the gym in the movie and she never refers to Pike in the TV show or anything...I suppose for the mythology you could consider it canon. How she was called, her life in L.A etc but narrative wise I don't think you can.

That just gets us back to the point where Joss said that he wouldn't change canon "unless it was for a better idea," or something like that. The movie was most likely a one shot deal, so it wouldn't matter that much. There was at least a chance that the series would run for more than 1 season, hence the "youth-enizing" of his title character. As for Pike, well, maybe Joss had planned for him to be a vampire with a soul, but somebody said, "She can't have a vampire boyfriend. We'll just make him a dropout auto mechanic and drop the 'S.' Spike sounds too much like somebody's pet Doberman."

Seriously, I never knew whether the movie was considered canon or not, I just accepted it as Joss' first draft, and therefore worth including in the story.

Well, if you want to consider the movie canon since it was Joss' creation then my advice is go with the original version which unfortunately you can only find in the comic book form 'The Origin'. If you haven't read it, it's definitely worth a read. Even on printed page it's a lot darker than the movie, which was how Joss originally intended it I believe.

I read it a long time ago, and the sequal, where Buffy and Pike go to Las Vegas, but that was a long time ago.
See I dont think it would even be that hard for them to do a movie thats in cannon with the comic and the show. The movie would obviously have to be something huge, and what better would it be the supposed "ultimate" battle between good and evil with a Slayer dissapearing? All the comic would do is have to lead up to that event in the future.

I agree, Id gladly swap the comics for a movie... Buffy on the big screen, that would rock!
 
Personally - i would prefer a big screen movie, cause i find it hard following comics...which is why i havent got round to reading series 8.
but thats just me. lol

I would love to see more buffy on either the big or little screen however I do see where keonite is coming from , I didnt read comics before but as I love buffy & angel I want to continue to follow it it whatever form it is in. I would feel cheated if Joss was to throw out the comics and ignore them now that I have got used to them.

But if he was to continue with a movie it would make sense for it to continue from Season 7 as not everyone reads or even knows about the comics so people would understand it better if it picks up from the last episode of season 7.

Personally I love the way the comics are going, and would rather have years worth of comics than a two hour movie. If I could have both that would be awesome, but if it was a choice I would go with the comics.

Honestly, I think Joss is too "anal" to totally de-canonize anything. And WAY too good to his fans. Although, there are some "inconsist" parts of the shows, for the most part, he's never treated the fans like idiots who can't remember 2 seasons ago. He may SAY he'd do it, but I can't see him ACTUALLY doing it!
 
The most sensible idea would be to round off both S8 (and any future comic seasons of Buffy) and Angel: ATF with the said movie. Then at the start of the movie, just do a quick re-cap of what happened in the comic series'. It wouldn't make the movie too difficult to follow, and the movie could SO be the Scoobies and AI joining forces in the final battle to end all battles (until the events of Fray obviously.)
 
Quick fix and how I think Joss should do a movie.

Set it AFTER Season 8 of the comics, and maybe just drop a small reference or two to events that took place in Season 8. No reason to ignore Season 8. I don't understand why so many supposedly brilliant film makers never see the easy fix.
 
Since the actors are now way older than they did in S7. So if they would make a movie, they could at least make it years later so the characters can look as old as the actors. Mid 30s perhaps. That would be years after the comics time line which is late2004/early2005.
