Anybody else find "Hells Bells" soul crushing?

I'm watching "Hells Bells" during my Buffy rewatch, and this episode is very soul crushing and depressing
 
Yeah, Hells Bells is a very sad episode. One if the thing I found so frustrating was the lack of honest discussion between Xander and Anya. If they had just opened up to each other I think they could have saved themselves from a whole lot of heartbreak and anger.
 
Absolutely soul crushing!!!! I always get so pissed at Xander at the end of this ep.

I think they both behaved very, very poorly in this episode.

I wish that Xander had just spoken up earlier, told Anya that he wasn't ready for the actually marriage part of getting married. We knew from 'All the Way' that he thought things were moving too fast, and I wish they'd both just slowed down a little.
 
Well, much of Season 6 is depressing when you think about it. Look at all the sad events that occur over the course of the 22 episodes. We have Buffy being ripped out of Heaven, Willow's addiction to Magick esclating to the point where she loses Tara and nearly kills Dawn, Xander and Anya breaking up at the altar, and finally, Tara dies so soon after she and Willow get back together.

Season 6 is by far the saddest season
 
Also, what makes it even more soul crushing and destroying is that when Dawn, Willow and Buffy are talking to each other in their house after the broken wedding, Buffy is wearing a cute shirt saying ''i survived''. On the eps commentary, it was admitted to be a mistake.

Xander and Anya is one of my few ''OTPs'' so this episode is so heartbreaking. What makes it worse, is what follows. The sheer anger on Anya's face is devestating, poor Anya.

Some moments are real tear jerkers, but in the kind that I don't mind: when anya recits her wedding vows, at the end with d'hoffryn and anya is just in tears, when she's torn and walks up the aisle. Anya is one of my favourite characters, and this episode and selfless absolutely destroy me...
 
I was always meh about Anya's character, she's not my favorite but I still enjoy her. This ep did hit a nerve though, very heartbreaking. During this season, Anya and Xander were the happy couple, it would have been nice for something to work for once. I just feel like because season 6 is so depressing, it was kinda just like oh eh another bad news, better get used to those!
 
Yes, I do. I often skip that episode during my re-watches. I love Xander/Anya, so it's just too heartbreaking.

Not really "soul-crushing". It's a sad episode, to be sure, but I can't stand Anya and always kind of thought Xander deserved someone far, far better than her. Sure, character wise I felt bad for her, even if I don't like her, but it didn't bug me either. The woman has butchered thousands of people. Kind of hard for me to feel bad for her until late in the game of S7 when she actually starts showing remorse for what she's done.
 
I did find this episode so upsetting and just really wished that somehow Xaner and Anya's relationship would have survived the failed marriage attempt because they both still loved each other and maybe it was just a case of bad timing but sadly that was not the case. Ps:I love Xander but this episode almost made me want to rethink all my past mushy Xander feelings.
 
Yeah. It is. Like @Lyri said, what makes it all the more sad is that it could have been prevented if Xander had had the nerve to talk to Anya about it before the wedding. Xander made a very bad choice, and Anya was really hurt, understandably...but sleeping with Spike made it so. much. worse...

This episode contains one of my favorite "little" S/B moments, though...so I can't hate it that much. When Buffy and Spike meet in the hallway - the first time since she broke it off with him - they share a moment, and he tells her she "glows"...and the most incredible smile comes across her face, and he smiles back, and it's beautiful. I love the sadness in this scene, but also the way that they are sensitive to one and other and the clear way in which they respect each other, and are compassionate, despite what has happened.

Buffy: But if you're wildly curious, yeah, it hurts.
Spike: But it hurts?
Buffy: Yeah.
Spike: Thanks.
Buffy: You're welcome.

It's clearly hard for her to see him with someone else, and she misses him, and he misses her, but they know better than to talk about it. Instead, they have a honest conversation and are more than cordial with each other - they're warm.
